Well…. I learned that shooting with a gmaster 24-105 in a VERY small gym with cheerleaders in both baselines isn’t ideal 😂 learned a lot and had tons of fun!!!

Hey Peter, I just got the go-ahead to be the sports videographer for my college. The athletics director said I first need to give her ideas of what I would be creating from my footage (hype video, player of the week, player profiles, etc) for their website and social media, what ideas do you think are great for college sports?

Firstly, congrats! That sounds like a sweet gig. If I were in a position like that I’d start by thinking of what the larger organizational goals are for the college, or at least their athletics department if that’s who is employing you. Maybe the athletics director wants to increase game attendance? In that case you’re probably going to want to pitch her a social content plan involving video that sells both the quality of the sports at games as well as the fan experience to your audience, so that more of them are likely to attend. That could include creating video content such as short-form social posts in-game that show fans reacting to top plays in real time. It could also include promo videos announcing ticket sales, hype videos for starting lineups to make the beginning of the games more exciting for fans, etc. Once you identify those larger organizational goals, developing video ideas that support them will be much easier and I’d think that your athletics director will likely be more receptive to them.

Great video Peter. I’m deciding between the Tamron 70-180 f2.8 and the sony 70-200 f4 for bball and fball? what would you recommend?

Absolutely the 70-200 f4 because it has stabilization in the lens which makes it useable handheld with the camera strap around your neck, where as the Tamron option without stabilization in the lens would likely require a monopod. Might do a full video on this with sample footage from each lens if I can get my hands on the Tamron

So I live in Cambridge and I'm planning to go to college or uni in a few years and I was wondering if you know anything about the Sport Media program at Ryerson and if it seems like a good fit for someone trying to get into this job field?
