i may not be a youtuber or streamer yet, but as someone with a fairly popular tumblr blog this was still massively reassuring ;w; especially the part abt overconsumption of bad news. i want to share good charities but i dont like the obligation that bloggers must share news of the latest atrocities going on in the world, especially with highly triggering content.. i want my blog, and my future channels, to be a source of joy, and to share good charities!

I especially feel like your last video chapter "Stay organized and keep your old work!" definitely spoke to me the most, especially as a hobbyist myself I often forget the reason I make art. Not to make money, or even to get views or likes, it is to inspire others to create.

I do feel like there is a certain pressure to churn out videos after a creator break past the 1K viewer mark, especially as it the channel continues to grow. When it started happening to me, Its almost became a routine that I open up KZbin Studio everyday just to watch the number go up. I'd also began thinking in terms of my upload schedule in terms of effort on a video per upload duration and am half convinced its because I'm chronically online. But otherwise I do feel good making every video, community post, and upload as a content creator and this video has been very helpful!

As someone who did have a decent art following on my old tumblr account ages ago, and got a lot of commission work...I got burn out so bad that I rarely even wanna draw again...I've been getting back into it really slowly, and even wanted to make myself a pngtuber for fun for when I do my art stream-but like you said; Making your hobby into a hustle and only focusing on making content that people want to consume? It's absolutely exhausting and soul-draining tbh.

This is something I absolutely needed to hear. Thank you so much for this video. I was just depressed that I was not trying to go for some popular niche, even though I enjoy what I do. I also beat myself up for not networking much, because I am shy on the internet and English is not my native language. I wanted to grow just because it was expected, but truthfully, as long as I have fun, it does not matter to me that much now. It was not like that when I started. Thank you again for this reminder.

With how the community is, we need more advice telling us to Chill xD as much as i want to make money and get famous, treating vtubing as a hobby is better for my brain. Funny enough I already do the hobby rotation xD

Thank you for talking about boundaries. Setting boundaries in your own community can go a loooooooong way in keeping your community healthy and understanding how far is too far for certain behaviors and actions in the community. People don’t understand how important boundaries are in keeping communities healthy. Always think whether you want certain people in the group because it can not only affect you, but also the people you’re bringing together.

Might be unrelated but i believe it is, i often tell the news when i had "Physical result" of something. There's a charm of keeping quiet about your personal project really! I grew pumpkin while enjoying diverse personalities of vtubers, but i tell my friends when it grew and not became snail food first. Where i grew up, expression is not commonly appreciatiated compared to actions you demonstrated for people you worked with, because of we are agricultural base, result and produce > Promises. I grew pumpkin on a moat, so it is quite snail resistant. And 2 months ago i cooked the pumpkin like a steak.

I just came back to this video after some months of burn out(like, in my art, in my job, in everything, i'm literal ashes right now), and honestly, it was such a humbling and relaxing moment what you basically expressed for me "You don't have to make ALL your hobbies your work. You can work, and then do stuff for fun, without that stuff becoming your work", is something i lost of sight at some moment of my life I really want to work and i really wanna make money doing stuff that i consider fun and engaging for me(someone with ADHD), but it reaches a point where you get BURNT TO A CRISP, if you can't separate your hobbies from your anxieties and neccesity of making bank to eat and thrive. Keeping that balance out or in when your crafts are your job and you wanna start making more profit off your main hobby bc of urgency is really hard. But now i know i can have fun first and mayb make the money afterwards, otherwise, why make artwork, if i cannot enjoy it anymore? Thank you. I feel better about wanting to just have fun with my art again. You removed my anguish and guilt off my shoulders.

That's overall one of the reason I don't want to become a professional streamer or just don't want to make a living out of one of my hobbies I just to want to make them how I want to, when I want to If it becomes your job, you don't have this luxury

If and when I restart uploading on youtube, I plan to take all this to heart. I get burnt out super easily just by even thinking about doing things, let along doing them. This gives me hope that there is a way to make it work in a balanced manner. Thank you!!

Hey Yam! It’s great to see another video of yours 😁 You’ve actually opened my eyes with this most recent one. This actually made me realize, that this is a path that may be more suited for me… the hobbyist. I’ve been racking my brain with starting and all, but as soon as I realized, this may not be a career for me and started looking at it a bit more casually, things lifted up a bit 😁 Thanks again, and kudos on your videos 😁

I feel like so many people do not realize this used to be a site that you uploaded because you enjoyed something. In doing it over time, you can really grow and learn how you want to make content, there are growing pains and you may not 100% know what you want the end results to be when you first start but slowly mold it by trying new things. Too many try to fast track this into a job when they are not enjoying everything they are doing and like you said, they are just causing themselves more stress by making a hobby into a job this way. Would it be amazing to have a youtube career, yes. Did I try to do the same at some point, yes. But I stepped back when making a video became more stressful and really looked at youtube as a creative outlet for me to chat with people, and for now, learn who I am and what I want to make. As a small creator (as in I like to work on creating stuff, not really a youtuber), I have the luxury of stepping back and really looking at the big picture and making sure I'm doing what I want, and not just what will get me views and money. Thank you for talking about this and I hope everyone is able to find joy in what they chose to do with their time! Sorry for the rant.

Thanks for doing this vid! A lot of the advice sounds like from experience in a good way. I appreciate when creators do vids like this as it's not always easy to figure these things out from the viewer's POV. From a viewer POV it's often "this creator I like hasn't uploaded in awhile, but I don't know why. I hope they're doing okay!". And sometimes it's only way later you think "wait what happened to (creator name)?". Something I've found frustrating is even knowing it's not good to obsess over numbers, it's difficult to avoid when it's the currency of the modern internet. Where people see views or likes or subs as a sign of quality. Where 90% of viewers won't see even one second of your video unless the title and thumbnail won them over. I understand this is part of the process, and there's endless competition, but it's really tiring sometimes. It feels like you start in a circle of say 50 people, and then you go online and it's now millions of people. There is no "local scene" for online creators. Regional idols are a thing in Japan, but many online creators are anonymous. I've seen some IRL local scenes, and sometimes I wish I had been brave enough to do that instead. lol I feel like the representation is often 1M+ followers or 1K followers, and not much in-between. Sometimes I still wonder if an agency would be better or worse, because it feels like there is more opportunity there. But I understand the start is harder no matter what. I guess what I'm trying to say is I wish there was advice beyond "follow trends, but not too much" from the YT help channels. I'm sorry I'm rambling a bit. lol

This is genuinely great advice for me and my aspiring crochet business! I've found myself coming home from my day job hating that I haven't been more productive or perfect at getting it up and running when there is so much to do. I've been stressing about getting together a website, how I'm going to market on social media, branding, making products, what to specialize in, and going back and forth on ideas until it makes me not want to do my hobby anymore. Because at the end of the day, its just a hobby, not a primary source of income. Thank you for the amazing video and the great advice! I'm so happy to be apart of this community of creative individuals

Thank you for the tips! I sometimes feel the need to do well in my art, and it makes me scared to think that I wont be able to dedicate my whole life to that, even if I try my all but with the algorithm nothing is for certain. As aspiring artists we should be open to other opportunities and not the stict version we have of success. Im so glad you were able to reignite that passion for vtubing! take care of yourself :D 💛
