hiya! i've been taking commissions for quite a few years now. these video is amazing!! it covers every part of the commission process very efficiently. i just wanna add something: ALWAYS ask the commissioner for their paypal email. this will prevent any refunds made by the commissioner after the piece has been finished. if you are gonna take a payment don't give the commissioner your email. some people use this paypal feature to request full refund excusing themselves like "i dont know where this payment came from" and they end up with both the finished piece and their money back. not cool at all! aside from that, thanks so much for the info, and good luck to everyone taking comms, and and happy commissioning! be safe ^.^b

i really love your commission guide! I've been doing commissions for a while now (started in April 2024) and watching your video made me realize that I've been making tons of mistakes. i used to price my headshots to 5$ bust ups to 10$ and full body to 15$ because of how badly i wanted clients to Commission me at first, but as time went by, i found it really hard to keep up with doing all of that for a cheap price. I'm not quite sure if this advice is in the video but I'm gonna type it here anyway: for anyone who's confused about pricing their art, post a sample of your artwork in a commission server and ask for price suggestions. because from what I've learnt, prices could vary around the artstyle, the skill level, and the amount of time you take per drawing (from 5 hours to more) and once you're an artist with a professional commissions background, feel free to set whatever prices you want. that's just some tip I wanted to drop here, ty for reading ^^"

@@tofuneito NOW THIS IS FACTS!! this is how a lot of ppl start doing commissions and that’s completely fine 😭 we all extremely underprice ourselves at one point but exactly how you describe it, is how i kinda start off and still struggle to have a good price in some of my commission pieces :,3 Theres times where the price is fine but since i get too many commission all at once i need to start high up the prices for it to be worth it 😭 but that usually kinda breaks the momentum of getting a lot of commissions… so i can definitely understand ppl’s struggle w pricing 💔 is a mix of going back n forth with your minimum price to your goal price until you have hit a sweet spot or have ppl that can commissions your goal price :3

As a person who wants to start posting my art and hopefully doing commissions soon, I’d assume this is the first thing that anyone would think NOT to do, but I guess you’d be surprised how many people think its completely acceptable. 😀

Taking full payment upfront will prevent a lot of people from commissioning you, especially if you're not known and have no satisfied customers to back you up. Half payment plans are okay when you start, and you can always change them later on
@tomokokyunАй бұрын
@@takaradachi from what ive seen its safer to just do full payment, if the client is feeling uncomfortable commissioning you full payment there’s always another client willing to pay you fully. Also just a heads up but there's a difference between commercial and promotional use (some people call them both commercial use, but that's inaccurate): promotional use and merch use. Promotional would be for streamers to use as pfp, banner, pinned post, schedule art, etc. They're not making money directly off it. 90% of them aren't even making money off it, since they're indie, and too small to monetise their content. Either way, they wouldn't be making any profit off the art, since it's just a reference of their character. Merch use is for people to sell, well, merch with the artwork on it. That way they'd be making profit off the illustration, and you can either charge royalties (which is like, really tedious to do and keep track of) or charge them a percentage of the final price. I just think charging small creators ridiculous fees has been normalised when it's not even fair 🤷

A person with no knowledge of English can be your perfect client, just like a person with perfect English knowledge can scam you. Just seems a bit insensitive to mention that, idk. The video is alright overall, and I doubt it was intentional.

But i love sketches/lineart though ;_; i think there's a certain aesthetic to them, like sometimes ill make my icon a pic from a manga
@tomokokyun3 ай бұрын
@@SukunaYaoi yeah ofc, it depends on the sketch/lineart you are offering, personally i think that if u do a sketch commission at least give it a quick flat color :,3 and for the lineart i would prefer if it was a bit graphic or sharp But yea either way sketches & lineart are “cheap” commissions since they arent fully finished artworks

@@joli248 hii! It takes a lot of time :,3 to “find” customers so just be patient at it! Always keep ur commissions open and see if finally someone commissions you. Just keep trying to promote yourself in creative ways and you’ll hopefully be able to find the right audience for your work :3

ok but HOW do I find customers?? I've opened my commissions a few months ago and I haven't received anything other than scam messages.

@@SehersuSarikayaOfficial hiii it takes a lot of time to actually get commission 💔 you have to try to catch ppl’s attention and try to post as many commission ads as u can (ofc without being annoying and spammy)

@@SehersuSarikayaOfficial i see a lot of people get them in popular art discord servers! in one of the ones i’m in, there’s even people requesting others to draw for them! you can show them your work and they can decide if they’d like to comm you! and of course you can promote your commissions there too :)

Quick question, what would u price adopts?? (Simple and complex)
@tomokokyun3 ай бұрын
@@S0larsh1n3 hiii im actually planning on making an adopt guide vid but it all depends on your art style and if the adopts are made with bases or drawn from scratch. Imo u should start w very low prices since its kinda hard to know if ppl are interested or not so, 10-15$ is a good set price and once you get some people interested you can start high up from 25-35$ the more attention you get from adopts the easier u can start highing up prices :3 I recommend to stay with 15-35$ adopt for a bit and moving on depending on the more effort you put into ur adopts and popular you get.

Doing an art commission in the past. Gotta block the lecherous red flag vibes and blacklist them. People talk sexually toward artists and I block them. Another thing is to keep things meticiolous in detail.

Why do popular artists only seem to work with popular clients? Is this an ego thing? every time I try to commission a popular artists they ignore me, or say commissions closed yet do commissions for close friends? its so stupid
@tomokokyunАй бұрын
@@youngdefiant idk tbh it could be just personal preference of the “popular artist” maybe is the character you requested to them didn’t fit their preferences to draw it :/ but yea its super awful when that happens is best to just move on w a different artist who is willing to draw your character.

Thank you for this! I am starting my art journey and don't know what to do. But a bit of a question, would the invoice in paypay require for buyers to payy the transaction fee? Does that mean that to start commission you have a start up balance in your paypal account?
@tomokokyunАй бұрын
@@Krayzillepaigee hmmmm do u mean like do the clients need to pay for paypal fees? Like the payment needs to be the exact amount that you are charging? In that case yes they should pay the exact amount even if paypal is asking for the fee. Whenever i commission someone i make sure to give them the right amount cuz i know how annoying it is to recieve almost the exact amount :(
