@17:47 That 2 second clip of the guitar is a great way to pace the cuts for 'tension' in the music, right before the next phrase comes in. I feel like musicians make the best music video editors. Good job!

Recently I cut our first music video which would not be possible without the massive knowledge from your team :) The intro i built up in a reverse way, closeups with the dominant instruments as you advised, then the wide shot about the whole band, it just turned around great. Thanks for all the effort you put to this channel!

Great video! Another tip that I find works best for editing multiple takes: color coding. Choose a color for the different types of camera angles, the instruments, pretty much anything that could help you differentiate each set of clips. This is super helpful especially for the "show what you hear" tip, as soon as you know that you need electric guitar, you can pinpoint exactly where all the electric guitar clips are.

Appreciate your approach and attention to details. Your teaching style is very clear and easy to understand. Lots of great advice within these tips that were on point and well explained. Even when you diverted from what was usual (eg showed bassist instead of guitarist at 4:41) your reasoning was well justified. You really capture the overall flow and feel of the music video with your choice of footage. Great work!!

Very useful tips. Most of the idea I have self aware in my video editor life. But I can never promise that I can fully following this 'rules' in my video. There are many reason, sometimes I just forgot, sometimes my energy down when my boss/clients is too suck, and sometimes it doesn't have that many option in the first place. But still feel very good to review these knowledge which I afraid I will forget in one day...

I have been editing since the beta version of Avid came out and I'm always down to learn more tips and tricks [like you, I stick with Premiere Pro these days]. You are spot on about noticing bad edits in big budget movies. The over the shoulder shot where you can absolutely tell the voice audio doesn't match the head movements of the person whose face you can't see is probably the worst offender for me.

I’d probably go with multicam and proxies because otherwise I’d get confused with the timelime. I am too indecisive to do it this way. :) my 2021 Mac with M1 chip has handled everything fine so far without proxies but I haven’t yet thrown 8K at it. I have the R5C so I will be testing that out.

How do you turn off or on a section in Timeline?
@TheseusTitan Жыл бұрын
You asked us to tell you what we think. I play the guitar and I am a graphic designer. I didn’t care for your decision to focus on the bass when it was a guitar that was being played the loudest regardless if you thought the bass was visually more vigorous in his playing or not. Bottom line, it didn’t match the sound with the instrument. I’ve seen that before. It might have been a live performance, but I never liked it when the sound didn’t match the visual. That part of the song would probably be played again. I feel it would be better if you showed the bass later in the song. Even if the bass player wasn’t so animated you could use that clip from the beginning… who would know?
@gezimhazrollaj7184 Жыл бұрын
Multicam is way easier for me. I set up multicams for every performace of every scene of the video and then I can see all the takes at once and I can change shots quicker and then I add B-Roll on top of the performances. Of course you need proxies for this kind of workflow but it's quicker imo.

Holy moly that's some workflow, and you've made it work for you. But this timeline seems ridiculously messy- I can find myself losing track of where things are without early documentation of my track layers. Curious about why a multicam workflow was not considered? Especially when there seems to be mixed-framerate clips on the same track where other clips are playing back in realtime. But man, I'm super impressed that you've made this work, because the edit is solid and in the end that's what matters! Also how would you approach client feedback with such a sequence, is it hard making any changes?
@WestonNey Жыл бұрын
You need the flexibility to move stuff around and experiment, since it's a music video, not a live event. Also 15 takes in a multicam window would be impossible to manage.
