@@MatthewPeechWoodworking Mat, I was a fireman for 21 years at Penn State and I used a set of trauma shears to cut a window out of a rollover car accident one afternoon. It happened right in front of me and I needed to get into the driver ASAP. The FD was probably 10 minutes out. I secured the vehicle by 'cribbing' the posts and corners and then punched a starter hole with my car's lug wrench and then cut the window out. They can cut a lot of shit.

Yup, I have a tool drawer labeled “odd tools”. Also have large mirrors mounted on the wall behind my work bench. When working on projects it helps to see for lining up or squaring etc..when my hands are busy holding the side I’m on. Cheap mirrors from a garage sale for example. Tks Matt.

Great ideas and I'm definitely getting a set of the trauma scissors for my main first aid kit and another set for shop use. I had a dried-up tube of clear silicone in a caulk tube, so on a whim I cut the tube open and tried it on my oscillating spindle sander. It cleaned the sawdust off about as well as the dedicated cleaning stick I had been using, so instead of throwing it in the landfill it found a useful purpose.

Decent trauma shears will cut a penny in half. They are incredibly versatile cutting tools. I keep straight and curved hemostats all over the house. Perfect size and grip for multiple tasks. When your scissors start to get dull, take a small sheet of heavy duty foil, not the really thin cheap stuff, fold it over itself 2 or 3 times, and cut the foil with your scissors. Be sure to use the entire length of the blades to cut the foil, to be sure that the entire blade set gets sharpened, and this will bring your scissors back to life really quickly. Going back to your medical supplies that work in a woodworker's shop theme, another very important "tool" every woodworker absolutely MUST HAVE, is a good first aid kit. Between my roommate who used to be an ER nurse, and a cardiac nurse, and of course you, who also works in an ER, and me, having been a first responder and an Eagle Scout, from way back in the day, I know the importance of having a large first aid kit that has lots of gizmos and gadgets in it. I think I spent about $150 for my kit, and then I bought a 4 pack of tourniquets, cuz you'll just never know. Think of this like car insurance, it's a waste of money until you need it. If there's one thing I will carry with me to my grave from my Boy Scouting days, it's "BE PREPARED".

A few years back I was looking for a way to organize my screwdrivers in my roll away, I came across a channel from a guy in Canada and he was using the magnetic bars to hold his in place, now I've got them holding all my screwdrivers, wrenches, ratchets, extensions, pliers you name it. I need more tools. ;-)

« Trauma » and « scissors » are words that opened a whole new dimension for me. Thanks a lot. Also, I can testify to thinking outside the box, regarding alternative use of tools. My favorite: I bought a cheap light motorcycle lift and use it as my thickness planer cart. Since my shop is small, I can store the planer under a bench, and get it ready to use in about 2 minutes.

Speaking about small family owned businesses with an amazing product, and I rave about it every chance I get, is The Mullet cyclone. They just came out with their boom arm as well. Saved me from building a cheap one and I don’t know how much in filters and bags for a CT26. And I use that DE A LOT. Filter looks brand new and I haven’t had to ever change the bag it came with. Pricey, yes, extends out instead of being on top of a shop vac but the thing is amazing

Okay, so now I have to add a few things to my wish list. Trama sheers & hemostats are oddly enough in my odd tools bin, bar magnets I got several years ago from Harbor Frieght, i think they carry the sheers & hemostats too. I don't just use my bar magnet for organizing my tools on the garage but also for my jewelry tools. Several years back, I carved out piece of wood & glued a bar magnet in for a mounted knife holder for my Momma. Oh dang! Note to self, make some mountable knife holders. I'd say since I don't do KZbin videos, you should add that to another smalls video. Lol The hook magnets you can order from Temu, they have them capable of holding from like 5 to over 100 pounds. They usually arrive about 2 weeks after you order and shipping is free. Man, now im thinking of a sheet of metal with some heavy duty magnets for even more tool organization. 😂

I had a hvac shop cut me sheet metal to fit inside my cabinet doors in my kitchen next to my stove. I then got stainless steel containers with magnets on the bottom to attach to the door for spices. The same thing would work great for organizing bits and connectors. The ones I got were about an inch and a quarter deep and three inches in diameter with a clear window in the lid

I ended up giving them to a friend because I figured I'd pick up another one the next time I was at the store. Haven't seen them there since lol. Anyway, I can vouch for how good they are.

Great video, lots of good ideas. I use one of those 6" magnetic trays with dividers built in for my most-used bits. Kind of categorizes them. So handy.... I used to hold my lathe tools on those bars, but a friend pointed out that you can magnetize the tool which could then try to hold itself in place on the lathe tool rest. That can cause you to overcompensate trying to move it around during a cut, and potentially be dangerous. I since re-built my took holder with a bunch of small PVC pieces. I also have one stainless shaft tool that never stuck anyway!

All good suggestions, I'll be looking to pick up at least a few of these. I do already use those staining pads, and they absolutely work great.. Hard to cut with scissors (in my experience anyway), so I'll definitely be getting a set of those trauma scissors...

I use hemostats when I'm working on 2A equipment. Great for holding and or installing parts where I can't get my fingers.

I have several hemostats/Kelly clamps and trauma shears from my paramedic days. I used the tape trick for holding tape because my interns were usually off doing anything else but handing me tape! The best clamp and I can’t find after the last move was the curved ones. I miss that curved one the most.
