San Francisco. The absolute epitome of a mixed bag city. While absolutely gorgeous with a boat load and a half of things to do at any time with some freakin amazing food to go along with it, it's also way too crowded, expensive, with a fair bit of a homeless issue. Still, I really enjoy visiting this place whenever I can.

San Francisco-my absolute favorite city! I grew up in the Bay Area but hadn't been back for many years until 2021. I stayed on the other side of the Bay Bridge and the traffic going to and from San Francisco was horrendous 24/7. The amount of homeless in California is terrible to see but that would never stop me from visiting San Francisco. The city and its many cites are too beautiful to pass up. Sure wish the cost of everything hadn't skyrocketed in California. It takes lots of extra planning and saving to visit now.

Places that I would recommend (as a local) that are NOT included in this video. These are additional places that we take guests when they visit: 1.) Twin Peaks: Located just south of the easternmost end of Golden Gate Park, Twin Peaks offers some fantastic vistas of the city. From the two peaks, you can see the entire city, ocean, bay and surrounding area. It's also free (although you might have to wait for an open parking space). Due to the winding roads and city backdrop, there are quite a few car commercials filmed here. 2.) Muir Woods National Monument: Although this is located just a short distance north of the Golden Gate Bridge (and not in the city itself), it is a must-see for anyone who visits the city or area for the first time. Muir Woods is home to hundreds of acres of "old growth" giant coastal redwood trees. These trees were here when Sir Francis Drake explored this part of the California coast in the 16th Century. It is relatively inexpensive to visit ($10 for adults) and parking now requires reservations or the use of shuttles. However, it is worth the visit. I'm a card-carrying yearly pass member -- and I've been at least 30 times. There are plenty of hiking trails. I would recommend the 1.5 flat main lower trail (which is a flat surface) for children or adults with some walking difficulties (or those who don't want to risk getting their shoes dirty). If you're interested in a bit more challenge (but still limited on time), I'd do the Hillside Trail. The Hillside Trail still goes through the paved trail; however, instead of going back the same way, you can return to the park entrance through an adjacent hill trail. Either way, make sure to stop in CATHEDRAL GROVE, the bridges and look for wildlife (e.g., fish, birds, wildcats and the elusive "banana slug"). 3.) Sausalito: Located near the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge, this offers some fantastic dining and shopping with great views of the city. 4.) Point Bonita Lighthouse and old military batteries: Located along the Marin Headlands near the mouth of the Golden Gate (where the bay meets the Pacific Ocean), the light is amazing! It offers some fantastic views of the city and Golden Gate Bridge. Add the various military batteries, and you'll find some great history set on the backdrop of sweeping ocean/cliffside vistas! If you want to go inside the lighthouse, make sure to check the times and calendar. You have to go through a bridge and cave to get there -- and the entrance is locked if the lighthouse keepers aren't present. 5.) Marine Mammal Center: Just off of Rodeo Beach, you'll find a center that rehabilitates various marine mammals. There is a tour offered that is donation-only. 6.) Pacifica, California (including Devil's Slide): Located adjacent to the city on historic Highway 1, you'll find some fantastic beaches, nice eating places and some hiking areas. There is the coolest Taco Bell in America on one beach (complete with beach-side seating windows to watch the surfers and a special outdoor window to order food from the deck). I'd recommend picking up some BBQ at Gorilla BBQ and having a picnic at Devil's Slide or Rockaway Beach. Devil's Slide has some of the best views along the Pacific coast! There are two places to park (on the north and south sides of the area). The north side is less crowded. The south side offers the best views (especially if you're not going to walk or bicycle the entire road). 7.) Land's End: This remarkable trail is one of San Francisco's best-kept secrets! From the parking lots near the ruins of the old Pacific bath houses (complete with ocean-side caves) to the where-ocean-meets-bay trails, you'll find lots to admire from this location! There are some different memorials very near the trails too. You'll love the magnificent views -- and the fact that you won't find many tourists here. 8.) Boudin Bakery: This is at Fisherman's Wharf. It is where sour dough was invented. So, yeah. 9.) Musée Mécanique: Also located at Fisherman's Wharf, you'll discover a FREE museum filled with arcade games -- most going back to the 19th Century! Bring some quarters though! 10.) Presidio: Located at an old former military base at the southern end of the Golden Gate Bridge, this is where Star Trek's "Starfleet Academy" was supposed to be based. It is, ironically, the home to offices of Lucasfilm LTD, Skywalker Sound, THX, Industrial Light & Magic, etc. You can take a nice photo of the Yoda fountain. On many days, you can enter the Lucasfilm offices and check out some props from the movies. It is surrounded by beautiful parks and trees -- and within walking distance of the Palace of Fine Arts. You can also visit the Walt Disney Family Museum too.

I have been visiting the Haight-Ashbury district, Market Street, Golden Gate Park, Richmond District and the Financial District quite frequently these past few months, and haven't seen ONE needle or human waste on the floor. Some people (many who haven't even been to SF or visited the past few years) are GREATLY over exaggerating about the issue like 90% of the time you're gonna see a needle or human waste randomly lying around somewhere. Every time I visit SF, it's a pleasant experience for the most part. I hope the homelessness/drug crisis gets worked out soon though, as SF it too beautiful of a city to have that reputation as a whole. With that being said, MOST of SF is not what some people (news media) is painting it out to be, and this is all from PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. I've visited quite a few big cities in my lifetime, and San Francisco is still one of my favorites.

Joseph Contreras market street is one of the most disgusting places in sf. Just go to the bart station or near the tenderloin right next to market and you’ll see how nasty it really is
@MrJoJi135 жыл бұрын
Lil Js41 Part of your statement is true. A part of Market street is rough for sure, like when you get closer to the Tenderloin and 6th street (SOMA area). Believe me, I know lol, as I take BART quite frequently when I visit SF from Daly City. But to say the WHOLE Market street is disgusting is far from the truth. It’s a very long street that goes through numerous districts. The point I’m trying to make is that MOST of San Francisco is quite normal (besides the outrageous cost of living lol). San Francisco is way too big of a city (with 119 neighborhoods/districts) to judge it as a whole based on a few rough small areas or neighborhoods.

When in you're in Dolores Park stop by Pancho Villa taqueria which is 3 blocks away and grab a steak super burrito or some steak super nachos, this is 2nd best taqueria in the city. (number one is El Farolito on mission street for their famous steak super burrito) When you're at the Golden Gate bridge take an uber or lyft or if you're driving a rental gps to Baker Beach, it's only 1 mile away and has breath taking views. When you're in China town stop by Vesuvios Bar for a drink. When you in Union Square take a short uber ride to Brendas soul food for breakfast or an Uber to Saigon Sandwich for a cheap very yummy vietnamese banh mi sandwich. TBH places like the Victorian houses and Lombard street are kind of a rip-off. I'd suggest the Deyoung museum, Golden gate park, the tea gardens, the academy of sciences, the botanical gardens, north beach (they got some amazing cannoli), the mission district (for awesome street art and good food), Ashbury/Haight for some cool hippy and punk culture, pier 39/fishermans warf, china town, japan town, and just walking around. The cliff house has some awesome history, but awful food so I guess I recommend it, but don't get lunch there. There's a lot of fun things to try when just walking around so just go for a walk and you're bound to find some wild stuff.

As a Bay Area resident of 20+ years I can attest that San Francisco went exponentially from Bad to Worse in just past 5 years. Real estate and cost of living prohibitive prices drove out the locals and majority of the middle class. Now the city is dominated mainly by the East Coast transplants that brought their self-entitled attitudes with them. The city has the sense of community no more. Newcomers treat the city as their personal amusement park with zero care to locals, elderly, families. The city officials are more preoccupied with attracting tech giants than cleaning up the city. Police acts as social workers vs actually enforcing the law. SF has the most homeless - homeless people in US. There are homeless in all major cities, but then there is Shutter Island level in SF. Customer service is mainly horrible, prices are way too high for anything, restaurants and bars will employ the dirtiest tricks in the industry just to keep the overhead low. Union Square is swarming with hookers from East Bay and their pimps. Street crime is all time high, you car will get broken into, you ill get punched, robbed, and in some areas right in the center of the town you will get killed by a drug addict. If you care about yourself do not take Bart. The open drug usage, needles, human feces, urine took over. Stay away from Townsend --> 5th Street -- > Market and Market 9th Street back down to Townsend Quadrant. Stay away from Polk/Post/Tenderloin, Bayview, Parts of Mission, Potrero Hills. If you want to see South Central in SF go to Sunnydale Avenue. If you want to be safe, stay away from about 80% of SF, just stroll up and down the Embarcadero. I predict that in the next 5 years the city will be ran by Salesforce and Google, and the rest will be just visiting.

Nice video. But I would substitute the Transamerica building with twin peaks. Also, The Mission gets an honorable mention.

Twin Peaks looks a great place to get away from things for a while and enjoy the views.

So I have never been. Been to Seattle and LA. From what this video shows, it seems to be somewhat of a mix of the two. Is that a fair assessment?
@jasonplatt22285 жыл бұрын
It's very different from Los Angeles, in many ways the opposite--especially weatherwise. Seattle is much more similar to San Francisco--as is Portland, OR.

I just want to add that I'm a native of the Los Angeles area, but I love to visit San Francisco and the Bay Area. If you like to hike, you'll love San Francisco and the Bay Area.

Actually, the Salesforce Tower is the tallest building in San Francisco.

But this video was posted in 2017

@@pdx96 True. Nevertheless, you can already see from the video itself that the Salesforce tower is already there and is visibly taller.

In 1915, The Palace Of fine Arts was built already before the fair. Fires don't burn down such structures built out of stone and they were not built by horse and carriage.

Does Ford provide roadside assistance for its kiosk bicycles when they get flat tires from all the needles in the tenderloin?

Frank Snapp Is there anywhere in SF to experience an Italy vibe? So North Beach doesn’t give you that? I am visiting and would love somewhere like that!
@nativesun98655 жыл бұрын
@@SooBeautyFull I've lived in the Bay Area for about 30yrs and I just noticed that area of north beach. I'm not Italian, so to me it doesn't have an Italian vibe, but Columbus street probably have the highest number of Italian restaurants in one location in the Bay Area. Seems like a good area to grab a nice meal and sit outside, relax and just people watch. Now how's the food and prices, don't ask me I don't eat Italian food; too fattening and greasy for my body lol. Enjoy.
