After that teacher left due to lack of students and I didn't get another one. Once the high E snapped, I just got done with guitars. Fast forward in the future, got new strings buy haven't yet clicked yet because the cheapo guitar was fighting me. In the middle of covid, took it up again, went through the pain for the 3rd time, later upgraded to a nicer electric guitar and have progressed a lot with online lessons and TABs since then.

Sided stepped the pentatonic, with making them learn all the inversions of their minor/majors/dom7/maj7/min7/9ths/maj9/min9/diminished and suspended up the neck vertically and horizontally , and heavy focus on intervals, so that when they learn the pentatonic scale and arpeggios they look at it in much deeper detail. Learning to solo two notes to three notes at a time and more up into using the full major scale patterns.

Just so you know, a lot of this applies to piano students too. (I do play guitar, entirely self-taught.) I took several years of piano and studied classical music composition in college, and today I consider myself a composer, not a performer. Anyway, before my first-ever piano lesson, I knew I wanted to play Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, I just loved it so much. So I got a copy of the sheet music. I was able to figure out where all the notes are on the piano. It's pretty repetitive, and easy to play! So at my first piano lesson, I proudly played what I had taught myself over the prior week: the first page and a half of this masterpiece. My teacher said, "Very good, but... do you see those 4 sharps at the beginning of the piece? That's the key signature. It means each time you see one of those notes throughout, you have to play it sharped." In other words, I proudly played the Moonlight Sonata in C MAJOR instead of its intended key, C# minor. "Huh," I thought to myself, "so THAT'S why it sounded funny. I thought the piano was out of tune." You know, that classic telltale sign of a musician blaming not himself but his instrument. (Early starter, me.) Needless to say, when she made me switch to "Teaching Little Fingers to Play," I could no longer say "But I'm way too good for that!" (Felt it in my heart, though!)

If I remember correctly... I practiced way too little. I was loaded with homework, and my job, so I had the bad habit of putting off practice until maybe the night before lessons or literally half an hour before :D

Bass player here. I remember in my first group I always wanted to punch the guitar player for either starting too fast//not following the rhythm//not practicing the songs outside of rehearsal. Granted I still had/still have a lot to learn and it may just be that I'm a bassist but it's when you quit being a band player that you get punched
