So, I’m in high school, and I had just finished playing a Lynyrd Skynyrd style song for my high school Christmas show, and a blonde girl I had a crush on came up to me and said “You need to teach me how to play. And that’s how I met my girlfriend. See guys, guitar does get chicks.

Not mine! Half hour lesson. I'm playing within 60 seconds of sitting down(he expects you to be in tune when you hit the chair). If I play the previous material well alone, he makes me play it again with him adding rhythm or soling depending on what I'm playing. If he decides I don't need any more work on it, out comes something new within about 30 seconds. 5-10 minutes going over that, and the rest of the time playing stuff I've already learned.

My guitar teacher was awesome, he showed me the proper way to play, never got frustrated (I imagine that must be hard because I had a hard time remembering notes and stuff, still do). And he always encouraged me to do well and he'd tell me stories of how he used to jam out with his buddies. I stopped because I just wasn't feeling right in the head and just lost motivation. He begged for me to keep going because he had that much faith in me to play well and just continue whenever I can. I started playing the guitar again and I'm enjoying it so much. Thanks Raymond, you the man.

@Rainbow Dash that sounds so cool! Don’t be ashamed about that, as with fingering there is a VERY loose line of “proper technic” at least in my book. I took a few lessons back when I was 15 in 2000, but after the guy showed me bar chords, power chords and a few basic songs with some solos, and also showed me how to use tablature, I continued learning by myself. During the pre/early internet era lessons were more common because the information to learn wasn't as easily accessible as it is now, especially if you were from a rural area like I was. Now you can learn all the basics for free online. Not that you couldn't learn on your own before the internet, but now everything is made so much easier to learn with all the videos etc. if you are willing to put in the effort.
