Picture this: farmland stretching for miles, the low hum of an old engine, and-out of nowhere-a tractor so strange-looking you can’t help but stare. Today, we’re counting down the 10 ugliest American tractors you probably never knew existed. Let’s get nostalgic as we explore these mechanical misfits from the 1900s-believe me, some are truly unforgettable. Now, let’s dig in.

There is some interesting lineage to the Avery Ro-Trac. It was originally designed by Cletrac as the model GG. Then Avery took over production (so Cletrac could focus on crawlers?). Avery was eventually absorbed by Minneapolis Moline who continued to produce the tractor an the Minneapolis Moline model BF.

Thanks for sharing that fascinating history about the Avery Ro-Trac! It's always interesting to learn about the evolution of these tractors and the companies behind them.

Ironically the entire John Deere segment didn't show one picture of a GPO 🤔🙄

You should find someone to be the speaker on your videos that has some basic experience with what he is talking about. What does ugly have to do with these great machines...that helped the United States become the world leaders in food production and equipment manufacturing...

I have a problem calling these "ugly". They were a sign of the times and reflected designers and suppliers ideas of what (and did) worked. If you are a Brit as your accent mostly says, you really need to look at what was produced in Merrie Olde England between 1900 and 1960 or thereabouts if you want to talk about ugly farm equipment.

I agree. They're more unique looking than ugly which is why we speak about how good they were.

Mr. Douglas was once shown driving both a JD GP and a Hoyt-Clagwell. The GP is shown as being ugly but not the Hoyt-Clagwell. What??

Unfortunately when they were building these beautiful machines that shaped and fed our country "how aesthetically pleasing can we make these" didn't register as high priority requirements when they were trying to develop the best, most reliable, powerful machines suited for the tasks at hand. Ironically, the things that you think make these tractors ugly such as the visible, intricate mechanical components and the unique styling that they did use are what makes them so beautiful. You could stand there and stare at a sheet metal cover and listen to it run and wonder what is going on or you can stand there and watch alot of what makes it run with grace and beauty unobstructed, and appreciate it.

The ugliest tractor ever built is a Kubota and very overpriced you can get a Massey Ferguson or a Ford much cheaper.

I also believe that panels and covers would be a hindrance to maintenance that needed to be performed numerous times during the day. Much easier to see if something wasn't working or sounding right to locate a problem. These were not smooth running machines especially with steel wheels. I would surmise panels of any sort would become real rattle traps. IMHO
