It's amazing how each system of magic touches people differently. We are drawn to each style of magic and writing just as the characters are drawn to their calling. And the best systems are often one of the extremes-exactly what we wanted or what we would never have imagined.

The Black Jewels Trilogy by Anne Bishop kind of alternates with various kinds of magic that can be reached at different levels of power to varying extents based on someone's mental control, and it shows how psychology, trauma, emotional ties and willpower can effect those with these powers as well as their ties to the land. I consider it an interesting take. :)

When I saw this video, my first thought was that it's not a popular series, but probably my all time favorite magic system is from Brent Weeks' Lightbringer quintet. And lo and behold . . . . 😂

It is such a cool magic system!! I need to read more- but definitely felt unique!

When I saw this title and immediately thought of Mistborn and The Lightbringer series. So glad they made the cut 🙃😋

This was a good list. I Have read 4 of the series you mentioned. Brent Weeks system was quite amazing system he is a local writer for me and follow him. One series I would reccomended, is my favorite, JIm Butcher Furies of Calderon. Magic exists as natural elemental spirits called furies. People have abilities to tune to one or one of them to produce magic. Strong users can manifest these furies as summoned creatures. The story is also a coming of age story about a boy with a legacy unknown to him coming into his powers.

Nice video!🙂I would have expected the magical system of Wheel of Time in Top 3, since its so well done in my opinion. The magic system from Malazan should be at least in a Top 15 list or honorable mentions i think. Its so complex and confusing but cool as well. 😉

Thanks!!! I am still reading WoT, still at the beginning so I reckon there is still a lot to go! Haven’t read Malazan yet!

I'm almost finished The Bone Shard War! I was trying to explain the magic system to my husband and I hadn't realized how complex it was until then 😅 But I think my favourite magic system has to be bending from Avatar: The Last Airbender. I love elemental magic systems!
@FunFantasyBooksАй бұрын
I also love elemental magic systems!! (Cough cough Sword of Kaigen!) and loved Avatar!! Although I can’t decide which element I would pick if I could have the chance and that bugs me haha
@alannapenner37Ай бұрын
@@FunFantasyBooks Oh I get it! lol but I found a chart online that showed how each type of bender has a specific hand shape, so depending on what your hands look like that's what your element would be! 🔥🌊🌪🪨
@alexiskiri9693Ай бұрын
The use of hands reminds me of mudras in Hindu/India which uses hand positions to promote healing in the soul and body. Also of the "hand dancing" in Thailand, I think.

Have you read The Blending series. There are two if I recall correctly. The second is a continuation of the first. By Sharon something. Takes the individual versus group magic to new levels.

Babel felt to me like the author was portraying magic as science. I am really enjoying The Justice of Kings series can't wait for book 3.

Ahh totally! It Babel felt very meta in that sense to me honestly! I hope you keep loving Justice of Kings!

Brandon Sanderson el mejor!! 🔥🔥🔥

Which Sanderson would you start with?
@samdoyle5155Ай бұрын
Mistborn is usually the suggested place to start. Sanderson gives a recommended order on his Dragonsteel website > Where Do I Start

I found Babel's "magic" system to be tragically bad personally. It wasn't really magic at all imo
