I didnt even listen to half of this. I was too busy admiring the view from your mats. Gorgeous location, brother.

I was hoping you’d address the ‘move out of the way of higher ranked’ people on the mat if you’re too close, as my gym seems to believe that it’s normal bjj etiquette to actually kick lower belts with the bottom of the foot multiple times to get them out of the way, without asking them to move. I left my academy today as a result of this etiquette unfortunately.

This is unfortunate situation. It is a custom to give the upper belts the right of way on the mats. If your new to rolling you lack the awareness of others space and if it’s happening repeatedly after coaches/upper belts tell you to stop and your not respecting there space on the mats it’s normal for them to get frustrated. I don’t agree with them kicking you though as it’s a safety concern in the same way it’s a safety concern to watch one’s space while rolling. This etiquette is in place as most of the time upper belts volunteer a fair amount of there mat time to help new students with learning techniques so when it comes time for them to spar you show them respect by giving them space to practice there own Jiu Jitsu during sparring so they can get better also.

@@ritualsjiujitsu4261 I wasn’t so new so to speak at this certain gym given my near 2 years with them training 4-5 times a week competitively. The rule of thumb regarding the spacial awareness around higher ranks was something I was well aware of by this point of course, and respected. The issues were rooted deeper I believe which facilitated this physical form of bullying/intimidation in order to prompt students like myself to move on. Thanks for the clarification though, I just wanted to see if the kicking part of the ‘move out of the way’ etiquette was something that is status quo across bjj culture entirely or just my own gym. The latter is evident, nonetheless I - and 5 other members have chosen to part ways for this conduct and various other issues.

Yea, that's not cool to kick people, a lot of times I don't realize people are near me, until someone tells me, then we move. If someone were to kick me, I'd kick them back.

I learn my lesson about washing the gi!! It smell bad after 3 lessons and well i personally don't wanna smell bad so i ask and some partners toll me to wash every time so i do now!!
@johnthree16116 ай бұрын
It actually will smell after each roll, especially after you start sweating in it. The main thing is if it gets wet, to let it dry, instead of throwing it in a bag or enclosed area still wet, that'll help with the smell.

For years I have added "lysol laundry sanitizer" to each gi or nogi load...kills any nasty bacteria as well as any funky smells..

Agreed, but asking what if questions shouldn't be discouraged from beginners.

I always try to say hi and bye to everyone, and ask each person that I roll with, how they are doing. As far as shaking everyone's hands, I will have to get out of my comfort zone for that one, I feel like some people don't like to shake hands. As a new white belt, I habe taken the rout of letting other people to invite me to roll with them, and I make it a point to never turn them down, and then to ask questions if possible. There's a purple belt who a lot of people don't like to train with, because he beats everyone, I always raise my hand if no one else will roll with him, and I've gotten much better.

"I always have nail trimmer with me" ... maybe you should use it on your toe nails? I'm watching this on 1080 and still I'm able to see those knives you're saying it's not cool to have.

I turned on my 1080p, to try and call you out, if you were cappin, but the white on his big toe is pretty big and long. Reverse wolverine.
