a whole lot of cars that look expensive. what we need is a decently efficent version of something like the Corsa-e for the price of a normal Corsa. not another over the top car.
@dzello3 жыл бұрын
Then you don't understand economics. When something is new (ilke EVs), it's pricy and sold to the richer market. Then, as rich people buy it more, technology (and other factors) drives the price lower which makes it affordable to the normal clientele. So first, you get over the top cars, then you get your Corsa priced cars. You won't get a wide range of affordable cars for the average buyer until a few years.
@yvs66633 жыл бұрын
@@dzello the only economics left at play here are the "lets not make electric cars too cheap coz we wont be able to sell ice cars if we do". the actual cost to make one has already gone down quite a lot.
@dzello3 жыл бұрын
@@yvs6663 The cost has gone down, but it's still a premium product, it hasn't finished going down. There is still pleeeenty of going down to go. As for ICEs, ICE car sales are getting banned soon in most developped countries.

Amen to that! I think the Chevy Bolt EV and more in that price range or lower are the key. Polestar, that Aston Martin monstrosity concept, BMW electric drag racer (go tesla plaid...it's already exists, so why wait for this other nonsense if that's your thing?)...nobody needs that $$$$ stuff. Most of these won't go into production or are not vehicles people will seriously consider.

I just purchased a new Hyundai Ioniq Limited EV which is the top trim. I already love it including the Grey interior, its 2 tone grey light and medium interior colors, so much nicer then all black especially in a warmer climate. Its only 170 mile range but thats fine, I don't understand the constant push for more and more range thus increasing vehicle costs because larger batteries are needed; when most people only need 100 to 150 range especially with increased number of charging stations for those wanting a road trip. For me a 100 mile range is enough. I wish more up and coming electric's had nice refined interiors as in high end vehicles similar to my limited Hyundai EV model, but lower ranges more for city commuters than long haulers. I had a Fiat 500e which was a great city car, but when my lease came due, Fiat pulled out of the U.S. market, so sad I would have liked to lease the new look version available other places but not in the U.S., Maybe if Tesla comes out with a lower range baby Tesla, electric will be available for those in the upper lower income to lower medium income bracket, not just the rich or upper level income bracket. Seems to me that battery packs should be available in various sizes not just on high end vehicles. Hopefully Hyundai with enter into either a smaller range EV market or even a smaller range 2 seat roadster both in the $20k to $25K price range for the general public's use. I am a single senior with $30K income, but my current choices were very limited and even though my Hyundai EV limited is very nice and spacious for 5 people its seems really too big for just me. I did want to continue being Green though so purchased more of a vehicle then I needed. Do also like the top trim so smaller vehicles should not have less deluxe interiors. Jim San Diego, CA

I want around 300 mile range so I can get up and down from the Bay Area to Tahoe or over to Yosemite without worrying too much about charging. And before people tell me there are charging stations along the way, I've been screwed before due to the one EVGO station (that I was counting on)being out of order, causing massive delays as I find an L2 Chargepoint charger instead. We have >200 miles range on our Bolt EV, and going camping at a more distant state park or a drive down to pinnacles or something is out of the question...we spend most of our time worrying about charging when we take trips to remote locations, so 300+ miles is my sweet spot.
@jamesmedard99893 жыл бұрын
@@yesloow What about buying a small gas generator for your trip; bmw calls their built in one a range extender. As to your answer you need to fork out more cash for an ioniq 5 with 300 mi. range or coming up an ioniq 7 with 500 mi. range if you want zero range anxiety and total electric, you could also do a plug-in hybrid. I was speaking about normal commuters and senior drivers not long haulers for trips. I thought chevy gets you a break on a gas vehicle rental for the now and then road trip. Jim

With the energy and pollution costs of parts production, especially the batteries (or possibly capacitors etc), you would have to own and daily drive an electric vehicle TEN YEARS to represent a less harmful impact on the enviornment. Then there the control you're handing over to these wise guys. Don't do the exact maintenence Tesla specifies? Well, that's the end of you're being able to get a charge. Nice, huh? Finally., all this aren't-we-too-smart/cool-for- words nonesense is going to go on until the first hostile drops an EMP device some- where in the world and all these toys in the effected area, including fire police & military, become total boat anchors... stantly become boat anchors
@yesloow3 жыл бұрын
not true. At this moment you recover the carbon emissions created in production of the EV AND the lifetime of an ICE vehicle combined after something like 5,700 miles of driving a Tesla 3. Also...do you have an EV? I ask because I'm not sure what maintenance you're talking about. I've had an EV for four years, 50,000 miles and have been to the dealer once. There's is essentially zero maintenance on these cars. No oil changes...basically nothing beyond tire rotation.

A Tesla Model S can make that trip without stopping according to the EPA. Mind you, if the weather gets very cold and snowy that stated range will likely drop a bit. I won't say buy a Tesla because unless range is your only concern there are other potentially more desirable EVs out there and frankly no one likes a smug Teslavangelist but it does meet the need you stated to motivate you to buy one.
