Very nice episode. While some of the expressions are present in other languages, it still is not easy for a new learner of a language to not take them literally. The presentation style was entertaining.

Great video. 6 of these expressions are also used in the UK. To go by the book is also used in the UK but has a different meaning. The ones with a tree, cat and dime aren't used in the UK at least I've never used them. Sorry not to be writing in Dutch

Deze uitdrukkingen kende ik nog niet. Harstikke bedankt. Nu diegene die ik al ken (deels Vlaams) + Een gaat in de hand hebben - niet met geld kunnen omgaan + Door de boomen zie je het bos niet meer + Wie a zegt moet ook b zeggen + De appel valt niet veer van de boom. + Nieuwe bezems vegen schoon Er zijn nog veel meer, maar die kan ik nu niet bedenken.

My favourite Dutch expressions are mieren neuken (nit picking), als een engeltje pist op mijn tong (what you say, if you're food is really tasty) , een bos hout voor de deur (a woman with a large bust) and een vreemd eende in de bijt (someone who is the odd man out). And I thought the Dutch for goodbye was either tot ziens, doei or dag. I've never heard ajuus before, in the four years that I've been studying Dutch.

"Ajuus" comes from "adieu", meaning something like "with God". Compare it with the German "Grüß Gott!'. It's used in the Eastern part of the country. 🙂

Aw! Jullie twee zijn schattig samen zoals een paar vrienden. Ik heb een vraagje. Ik woonde in Groningen toen ik jong was, daarom herinner ik me nog wat Nederlands. Maar soms versta ik het accent van andere mensen niet so wel. Maar ik kan jullie-twee allebei heel goed begrijpen. Ik denk dat we onze r's op dezelfde manier uitspreken (een beetje zoals Spaans). Maar, de vraagje is, als ik bijvoorbeeld "lopen" of "koken" zeg, hoor ik veel mensen "lope" en "koke" zeggen. Maar ik spreek het natuurlijk uit als "loop'm" en "kook'n". Is dit onjuist? Of het is een slechte gewoonte die ik in Groningen heb opgepikt? Of is dit niets om me zorgen over te maken? Dank je wel!!! Callé

Bij [3:14], waroom zegt men "Ik ben mijn bestek vergeten" maar niet "Ik heb mijn bestek vergeten"?

Je kan "vergeten" met beide hulpwerkwoorden gebruiken. Hier een uitleg: "We gebruiken vergeten zijn als we iets niet meer weten en we gebruiken vergeten hebben als we iets hebben nagelaten; vergeten zijn iets te doen. Enkele voorbeelden: Ik ben je verjaardag vergeten. Ik ben die afspraak vergeten. Ik heb vergeten haar te feliciteren. Ik heb vergeten hem een nieuwjaarskaart te sturen. In de eerste twee voorbeeldzinnen gaat het over iets niet (meer) weten, zich niet hebben herinnerd. In de derde en vierde voorbeeldzin gaat het over iets niet hebben gedaan, iets vergeten zijn te doen." These are pretty good for beginners. Granted I'd say I'm advanced beginner I'm learning tons of new words and by watching this you get a better feel and learn new words too. If you are a complete beginner then there are plenty of good videos to watch to help you remember basics
