The most unnerving thing about PT, is that the devs made it so the "ghost" or whatever it is haunting the area is ALWAYS right behind you. Once you pick up the flashlight, the ghost is "tethered" to you from behind like a creepy backpack. When you turn around, she won't be there, because she is still tethered to your back. This means all those times you heard some small sound behind you, or saw a flicker of a reflection on the walls and turned around and saw NOTHING, attributing it to your mind playing tricks on you, or the suspense of the game, or even scripted jump scares.....it was her the whole time. Still behind you. Google it. It's creepy as hell.

I really hope Baldur's Gate 3 paves the way for more big-budget + big-production CRPGs given how much people are loving it. While we do get a decent number of smaller-budget CRPG titles from year to year (which are often great too), the big budget ones are fewer for sure. I think if the CRPG fan community was a bit bigger, we'd get a lot more big production games in the subgenre, and BG3 has certainly drawn in a bigger crowd than usual. SteamDB says that the peak concurrent players for BG3 was 800K so far, whereas Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous only ever peaked at 50K, and in my opinion, that game theoretically deserves JUST as much attention as BG3 given its quality. Even Pillars of Eternity and Divinity OS2 have peaks of < 100K, so BG3 might be CRPGs' time to shine!

Agreed. It would be great if more developers found new ways to guide you around the world that felt immersive. A lot of games use the arrow/compass thing which works but it’s an interesting. I also like dead space because it fits the game’s in world technology. It makes sense

4:58 Unlike RDR2, Skyrim came out in 2011, and looked fairly good for that time period. Many people have played it years later, and then unfairly compare it to much more recent titles. Although it did receive a minor visual update, this mostly just adds a bit of post-processing and increases the view distance a little. I think people have a tendency to forget that the game is 12 years old now (at the time of this comment).

No one's forgetting how old it is; in fact it's quite the opposite. We just love pointing out the improvement to measure how far we've come since older games released.

Skyrim and Fallout New Vegas for me, even before mods.. couldn't believe how amazing they are. How replayable, then came the mods, and I had a few extra thousands of hours in Skyrim.

Even more amazing is - the Tamriel Rebuilt mod project, which aims to "complete" Bethesda's initial goal to realize the entire province of Morrowind in TES3, is still ongoing - the Skywind mod project, which aims to add Vvardenfell & all its Morrowind content to the Skyrim game w/ all the benefits of its (more) modern engine.

Tears of the Kingdom set the bar INSANELY high for whatever Zelda game comes next. That ultrahand was SO fun to mess around with and the world is just SO massive. Also, P.T, was the scariest game I've ever played.

Lol how? Botw and Totk are spin offs, and while open world games with grand exploration is a lot of fun, the original zelda formula is more fun because the formula is unique like most Nintendo games and that's what Zelda fans really want.

I think for Kirby, it helps that it was only published for and on one console. It allows a team to focus on one system and perfect it instead of spreading the team thin for Playstation, XBox and everyone's varying PC setups.

Currently just over 110 hours into BG3 on pS5 (yeah I’ve been GLUED to it..). So insanely good. A few bugs and crashes that can be a pretty annoying at times, but they ultimately barely detract from what has been a genuinely amazing, exciting, emotional game.

Max Payne 3 spoiled me on third person shooters, especially ones that focus on movement while still retaining a cover system and how the reticle is just a dot like the previous Max Payne entries. I'm honestly worried if Remedy can match those mechanics that Rockstar managed to improve on. Additional note, Resident Evil 4 (both the more cheesy classic and the gritty remake) also spoiled me when it comes to action-horror games balancing mechanically deep action and maintaining the stress found in horror games. I'd say the Dead Space games might come close, but there's just something about RE4 to me that works so well.

Controversial hot-take: Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts walked so Tears of the Kingdom could run. Go back load it up, try it. Freestyle "lego" style building, live vehicle editing, adapting the vehicle to lots of different types of challenges. Protect the egg, carry the item, defeat enemies, be fastest in a track with dirt and water. No one thinks about this game anymore but I loved it back in the day. TotK very much scratches that same itch.

My list would include 1. Satisfactory (Early access that feels like we already have a finished game that just gets bonus content after bonus content) 2. Kerbal Space Program 1 (A game that is so incredibly fun and also turns you into a person that understands real physics and when there are bugs, they are mostly entertaining... ok not if you are trying to setup a colony on Laythe) 3. Surviving Mars (Just for the Soundtrack. They hired a guy that actually loves music and did not poop out one generic piece after the other) 4 Gothic 1 (Talk about atmosphere and Soudtrack) 5 Dragon Age Origins (Talk about ramping up that atmosphere and soundtrack... the music in the camp, the dialogues, it all feels so 'Yeah it's hopeless, but you are not alone, we'll get through this' and the successors didn't even come close recreate that)

Baldurs Gate 3 was the first title to come to mind. I remember giving it a try, as I am someone who has never been interested in crpgs, and was blown away. Funnily enough, I was really considering getting thr new Diablo game that had just came out previously. I saw all the monetization that was there and decided to not get it. I see why people say they left Diablo 4 for BG3 as it's absolutely amazing with no monetization. Im about 70 hours into my playthrough and am still seeing how previous choices impacted my game. Im beyond excited for my next playthrough already and I haven't even beaten the game yet
@joshc5309 Жыл бұрын
Diablo 4 and Baldur's Gate don't even overlap on what they are. BG is a through-and-through role playing game. Diablo has never been more than a dungeon slasher. The monetization exists in D4, but it's easy to utterly ignore (besides, the prices are absurd beyond all reason. No skin has ever been worth $17)

For me the game that I feel that has spoiled me the most is Elden Ring. The overall freedom of movement is not something to be overlooked. In many games I always feel like my character has a ball and chain on their ankle or are perpetually stuck in mud. When we're getting games like Lies Of P and Lords of the Fallen where to jump is conditional upon having to be running at the time. Or worst experience I've had is to play a bunch of Elden Ring then go back and play Skyrim. It's so frustrating. Even compared to the Assassin's Creed games which have a ton of freedom of movement outside combat, the combat movements are lack luster by comparison.

Spiderman was good but I don’t think it spoiled us as much as you say. Open world games in general give us a good amount of customization with our character. I think Elden Ring should be here, almost all open world games I've played had markers everywhere and held your hand on where to go, Elden Ring is the only one that really gave me that thrill of exploration and coming across something new, instead of a marker telling you where something cool is, you can see it in the distance and be like, "Wow I can go there"
@FriedSheep69 Жыл бұрын
Witcher 3, Ghost of Tsushima, Red dead redemption 2 all give you the same experience but not with 100 deaths so...yeah...
@Sinhsseax Жыл бұрын
I think a justification would more so be world design, which in the end allows you to play without markers. That in combination with some smart but small design decisions such as making the map slowly get bigger and giving you sneak peaks with teleporter chests makes the exploration of the Lands Between really satisfying.

I think he underplayed Stardew Valley a bit there. In a single FREE patch years after release, the devs completely reprogrammed the entire game, every single line of code to make the game 100% multiplayer compatible even though it was never originally planned to be multiplayer, and then added 4x more post game content to the game as well as added split screen co-op and directly further bolstered mod support. Even now Dec 2023, almost 8 years after release they are planning on adding 8 player multiplayer, and a bunch of extra festivals, events, minigames, outfits for all characters, new farms and other shit. Oh and they also completely translated the game into 11 other languages. That's next level shit
