10 Ways Osijek Changed in 2023 (Croatian Subtitles)

What happens if you start to look at Croatia with the glass half full?
There is a lot of negativity in Croatia and many problems for sure. But there are also lots of good things happening. In the first in a major new video series, Croatia, When the Glass is Half Full, we will be working with local adminstrations to show how their destinations are improving on the ground, away from tourism - EU funds, environment, kindergartens, infrastructure etc. so celebrate progress on the local level, and to show that while yes there are problems, there is also much to celebrate as well. I am very grateful to Grad Osijek for being our first partners in this endeavour, and we have also recently filmed in partnership with the administrations of Vukovar, Vinkovci and Slavonski Brod.

Mosquito 6:01 My experience in Osijek in 2023 was very pleasant, no Mosquito bites at all! I congratulate the local authorities on this success. I hope in future they don't resort to lab created GM mosquitos that has been tried in many parts of the world for decades with dismal success rates.

@@TheLordboki Other than Osijek where I encountered no mosquitos the places I went were inundated with them, those places being Suza, Zmajevac, Dunube and Liberland.

Slavonian friend told me of a Dutch agricultural firm wanting to open up in Slavonija and buy abandoned land . There was so much corruption and red tape they left after 2 months of trying . This is a complete and total disgrace Local officials are expert at claiming EU funds but fail to assist in development opportunities . You do not hear stories like this !!

Well 9 out of the 10 things came from osijek residents, so not sure i understand why it was not objective. As for elections, it is the first of a big series of at least 20 towns in croatia over the next 12 months. This just happened to be the first.

Osijek is the capital of Baranja, Osijek-Baranja County, not Slavonia, there is also Požega-Slavonia County, the capital is Požega! People always forget about Baranja, I don't blame you for making a mistake because Croatians themselves don't know about Baranja or ignore it, they always mention Slavonia!

Osijek is not in Baranja and it's certainly not a capital of Baranja... The only town in Baranja is Beli Manastir. Osijek IS the capital of all the eastern part of Croatia, therefore Slavonia as well (5 Slavonian counties).

I don't know where you are from, I live in Beli Manastir! Osijek is located right next to the border with Baranja on the Drava River and a small part of the city is located in Baranja! Beli Manastir is not the administrative center of Baranja, in Beli Manastir there are only offices for all administrations, the main administration for Baranja is in Osijek. @@HelenSmith-zz4py

Salaries are low especially in this part of Croatia...That did not change at all. Only maybe Osijek is exception. One can be under impression of old achievements and bulidings but reality is not bright. Osijek has a very good mayor and his administration is doing all that is possible given the whole socioeconomic environment in Croatia.

Da nije iz vladajuće stranke ne bi se Osijek pomakao,a pomakao se tako da su od njega napravili gradilište bez i malo smisla.Sve pod parolom i maskom da nam nikad nije bilo bolje.Sramotno je da ovaj englez ima jedino za snimiti Amercku tvrtku dok su naše sve zatvorili i porušili.Gradevinska zemljista dali za izgradnju trgovackih centara iz kojih jedemo smeće.Dok su sela doveli na rub propasti.Za te ljude sa sela eto tajkunčići kupuju po gradu malo veče placeve i zidaju manje zgrade gdje se ocito selo preseljava ili pola toga stoji prazno.Ja volim moj grad ali kad vidim da su selo unistili,mlade potjerali i uvezli nam iz pitaj boga kojih zemalja ljude koji imaju prednost pri zaposljavanju meni se plače.

Osijek je bombardiran od strane Srba od 7. mjeseca 1991. godine do 3. 1. 1992. a i dalje sporadično do kraja rata 1995. Srbi su znali za rat unaprijed i mnogi su otišli prije njega. Ali ih je dosta ostalo i do danas. U ratnim uvjetima sigurno je bilo i zločina, što svi osuđuju. Za vrijeme rata Osijek je imao 5000 stanovnika jer se nije moglo znati gdje će granata pasti i mnogi su privremeno pobjegli. U 4 mjeseca, od 1. 9. 91. do 1.1. 92. dnevno je ginulo prosječno 6, a ranjavano 30 građana od srpskih granata.
