HI! I just subscribed. Another way to "look" expensive, is to be confident. Your clothes should always be clean, well cared for, and you yourself should always be well maintained. A good hairstyle, clean well manicured nails, subdued fragrance, and an air of confidence will serve anyone well. It's not about looking expensive, it's about feeling confident and holding yourself to your own expectations.

I'd add: clothes that fit! There's a little more (not as much as some people think but...) wiggle room for clothes that are a little loose if it looks like a "look." But if it's tight or bunchy, don't wear it. A well fitting $5 tee will always look better than a $500 ill fitting shirt.

well said, I know a couple that spends lots of money in clothes specially her. She says she does it cause she is usually on stage, since she is a singer. But, she likes to wear most of her clothing items in different occasions without washing them. At the end of the day, she takes off her clothes and if she decides she is not washing one item, she just hangs it like it is clean. Also, she does not press her clothes or cleans her shoes.

You're a "soft" person (with your soft hazel/green eyes and mid-toned hair color) rather than a "bright" person (who has more contrast and looks better in bright saturated colors) so, those muted neutral colors will look good on you, but they will drain the life out of some people. A bright all-red outfit, for example, will look just as "expensive" on some people as a an all neutral outfit... Thinking specifically of Blair Eadie from Atlantic Pacific's gorgeous bright outfits that always look expensive. You just have to find the colors and tones that are best for your skin tone/eye color/hair color. A mauvy lip would look better on you than the red in the video, but I agree there's certainly a red shade that can work for almost anyone. Again, it's about the tones...more blue/pink for the cooler people and more orange or deeper shades for the warmer people. Everyone can look great if they find the right colors and tones, make sure clothes fit properly and are ironed or steamed, make sure hair and nails are neat and clean.
@AlexS-df7qk6 жыл бұрын

Well put. I think it is important to emphasize that clothing choice doesn’t help if it doesn’t fit properly, clearly isn’t cared for, or is damaged. A luxury brand piece of clothing that doesn’t fit right could make it look like you snagged it from a thrift store. A person who shops at Wal-mart and actually hand washes and hang dries according to the label, and irons their clothes will usually look more elevated than any person who goes out in a luxury shirt that hasn’t been ironed or has shrunk in the dryer. There have been a few times I bought a beautiful shirt but forgot to separate it to hand wash. The logo is worthless if it is on a piece that looks like crap.

Great tips...thank you! Another tip is always to have your nails done and done with a basic, clean manicure...nothing crazy! I can respect the trendy pointy nail or the bedazzled, jeweled nail, for example, but a clean, neutral polish or classic red nail goes a long way...in my humble opinion!

100% agree on the pointy shoes. I don't think a single soled pointed stiletto in black or nude will ever go out of style. I will add- while I don't think it's worth it to spend lots of dollars on expensive clothes, I do think it's worthwhile to splurge on a high quality trench and a nice wool coat in neutral colors. They're low cost per wear if you live in a temperate climate and wear those items for much of the year but really pull an outfit together.

I would add paying attention to fabrics (like do they look neat close up?) and fabrication (how is the stitching?). Oh and for adding trends into ones wardrobe I would go for simple rather than bold. Like a clean cut shirt in gingham right now rather than a intricate one-shoulder piece with loads of ruffles, because the clean shirt will still be interesting in a few seasons/ years. And I totally love adding "old" trends to an outfit. If you're doing it right you're looking chic and well put together and not outdated at all. :)

What people don't understand is ....When you invest in LUXURY shoes, handbags and clothing that doesn't mean that you have to buy them BRAND NEW! The majority of my closet (90%) is High End-Saint Laurent, Moschino, Givenchy, Gucci, Prada, Alice + Olivia---but it's all THRIFTED/Secondhand. Most of it is borderline brand new, BUT secondhand. Thrifting is not only fun for me finding luxury items, but it's what's in my price range. Every luxury item I own is unique and vintage, and I would rather own them, than something that is temporarily in-fashion. When I look at my closet, I see personal style and not fast fashion and I am proud of that!

honestly, I think those "entry level designer pieces", or basically everything that has a big logo on it, looks cheap. sure, they cost 200 dollars (which i would never pay for a belt, especially one that is basically a canvas strap. maybe if it was really nice chic clean looking leather one, i'd consider it) But I think the bigger the logo, the cheaper something looks. Other than that, this video contains good tips.

The best way to be classy is refine and educate the mind, increase your vocabulary, read great literature and be compassionate to and help animals. All combined it's quite a dynamic presentation. People tend to surround themselves with "things" and many times it's simply because there's nothing else to that person. If you have intellect and personality life is much more satisfying and interesting. I have known many ppl who dress well and look well put together and there's no one home.

How to look expensive is best to look at “old money” expensive people. They do wear neutrals and wear natural make-up but they almost never have the need to wear designer items that purposefully have the logos showing. Most yuppies or wasps will say that you can tell when someone is trying to hard when they purposefully wear items with logos. Most yuppies or wasps opt for accessories like Hermès or Burberry (on occasion Chanel) due to the look being more streamlined with the logo not showing. If you’re going to look “expensive” go for the “old money” look rather than “new money” look. It’s a difference in the air of confidence. One looks like they are comfortable whilst the other looks like they need to prove that the look expensive and belong. Just some food for thought!

Often times “cheap” clothes look cheap, because of the material and sewing. Flashy looks “cheap” and somewhat desperate. I’ve seen so many well dressed women and man, who look elegant and expensive with out a single designer label “screaming “.

As a worker at Bergdorf's, me and my fellow workers all agree that it is the people who look plain that are the ones who pay $10,000 for goods without blinking with cash or a debit card. It is the ones who are covered head to toe, in fashion brands always use a credit card.

Ivy It all depends if you are traditional or not and which country you are from. Many shoppers in Bergdorf use cash. I also think the way people use debit or credit cards is kind of uncouth. The way pull out their card from the reader at lightning speed is both rude and a clear sign of being common.

I think "how to instantly elevate your look" is something that transcends "expensive" Two things I THINK you seem to consider but didn't mention are... 1. Grooming both yourself (chipped polish will negate any style plus your Chanel Jumbo brings to the game) and groom/maintain your wardrobe. Stains, missing buttons, dirty shoes ruin a put together look. 2. Quality of a garment. (This does not mean it has to be expensive). Both the cut and the quality of the fabric will go a long way toward making a Target button up or a Zara dress look and wear well. Your Balmain dupe blazer may need plastic buttons replaced with metal or the sleeves hemmed. Ok I guess I have 3 tips ...3. Find and use a good tailor. The right fit will definitely make a garment look more expensive than it is.

Loved this video Shea! I totally agree with everything. My tip is to wear the perfect nude and invisible bra with every outfit. I think it looks so cheap when people have red straps sticking out or you can see bumps from the lace through thin shirts. I might just be picky though haha
@catbaril90727 жыл бұрын
Alyssa Mills the only moment you should see the bra is when it is done on purpose. If you are going for a visible lace bralette, for instance! Unless you are trying to make a pubk/trashy look, then it CAN work. But that's not the objective here.

Nope, just fell across 1 video by accident and that was cool, but that was enough for me. It's interesting to see other people's opinions though and I appreciate yours, however In Europe a belt like that just screams cheap. Also a red glossy lip after a certain age without the plumpness of youth is not classy. I think there's a very clear definition between US class and UK class. New money and old. However good tailoring, a good manicure, a good haircut will always serve you well. A fake handbag will always look fake as will a fake watch. Dainty jewellery, pointed shoes, yes, always. I agree. Manners, etiquette, and kindness will show true class any day of the week.

I’m reading the comments and laughing at how catty it sounds. I work in finance and people with money rarely want people to know they have a lot of money. Why? Because then they try to access it. As far as “old money” is concerned that is so country club. Money is a resource. Shea is just sharing her interest and style. That is fine. Just be classy and either be cool or move on. It’s that simple. Just be the best version of you. Shea thanks for sharing your tips.
@azurephoenix95466 жыл бұрын
Goaty Gal&Family That is very true. We live in a very high-end gated community and everyone here wears absolutely utilitarian clothing. Old NB sneakers, banana republic khaki shorts and t-shirts are pretty standard weekend wear. If you weren't surrounded by giant houses and German cars, you'd never know that any of them were more than middle class at the most. They don't spend a lot of frivolous things, which is how they keep all that money! 😉

Goaty Gal&Family You are absolutely correct in part of your assertion, but two clarifications: 1- "Old money" isn't necessarily "country club" any more....maybe regionally it is, i.e. small towns, but certainly not populated areas and suburbs around cities. 2- There most definitely are people that like to and/or do their flaunt money, which is how the term "nouveau riche" came to be. These showy displays are most often people with newly acquired money/wealth, compensating for some insecurity, filling a void/self medicating by spending, trying to elevate themselves and/or buy in to/fit in with a higher class. Unfortunately, churning through money at alarming rates isn't impressive and it's the best way to go through money. Bc they haven't had money, they have no idea how to manage, keep, and invest it...they falsely think money will always be there and succumb to instant gratification, tell themselves that they "deserve" every luxury purchase (esp if they see others w/it) and justify overspending, not realizing just how much they are really racking up/charging. Ben Franklin said it best: "A fool and his money are soon parted." Also sometimes it's all a facade, a sham; they are leveraged to the hilt. Their home(s) have a mortgage (or two!), they don't own their luxury cars (plural) - they're leased or have to make payments, they are materialistic, (overly) concerned with keeping up with the Joneses, the latest fashions, the newest technology, appearances, possessions, ....and they don't pay off their credit cards every month, so they pay outrageous interest rates ...and keep charging, buying, & spending - accumulating more debt.

The wealthiest people that I know wear tee shirts and shorts with flip flops... because they INVEST their money.. they don’t blow it all on clothes and accessories in an attempt to appear as wealthy as they are.. I guess they don’t feel the need to prove their wealth to anyone.
@pavlinaliskova76346 жыл бұрын
Maybe when they are running their errands; however, when they are invited to places or are attending an event they put on very expensive brand of clothing and accessories. But these brands are not mainstream brands, and the brands may be known only by people who are looking for added luxury and uniqueness - like a Rolls Royce among cars. For instance Patek Phillippe wrist watch runs between $100K-$1Million, the watches are very subtle and elegant in appearance (not to mention extraordinary quality) it does not scream at you "Hey, look how luxurious I look" like Rolex watches. And that's a kind of stuff really wealthy and professional people buy.

Couldnt have said it better myself. My husband and I were just talking about this. The people that are actually wealthy dont usually flaunt it like that. Same with us going to the casino. These other ‘women’ who are spouting such hate for Shea in the comments and then adding a catty ‘sweetie’ or ‘hon’, or implying it, are the REAL problem with why women are perceived by men as never being able to stand toe to toe with them...NOT because many of us like fashion, jewelry, ‘girly’ things...but because we are so petty and vicious with each other and not supportive of each others’ choices that we simply cannot be taken SERIOUSLY by them. It’s petty jealousy and wanting to be ‘right’ that make passive aggressive women want to put down bright, cheerful women like Shea for something as silly as her VOICE, hand gestures, etc and calling her annoying. Really? Then what does that make you? She loves spreading her joy of fashion, etc on the net. Good for her! Do something positive with your life and stop putting others down. But we have something in common: I am a combat veteran, 1-17 (AIR) CAV, 82d (ABN) DIV and YES that gives us commonality. Why? I should know....and I subscribed! ❤️ Do your thing Shea! Hugs, a female combat veteran. 1-17 (AIR) CAV, 82d (ABN) DIV. PS: you want to know who has been the cruelest to me? Other men? No. Other soldiers especially threatened infantry? NO. Other women? YES!

Well said... what is wrong with those women (I assume most are females) so willing to beat her up and sounding like they cannot help wanting to show how superior their sense of real luxury, classiness, fashion, wisdom regarding money, etc., are... :( There are many people out there who buy / dress the way they do with various reasons... and some of them of course want to look beyond their means. As for some LV bags those want to trash, some people buy them for the look, some for the durability and care-freeness, some for maybe wanting to own one "luxury" piece, some truly love the style of the bags. Stereotyping and generalizing with limited knowledge of each person's reason why they carry something are very arrogant and show elitism. (And even if some buy those things to show off their newly acquired money, that is their money and their choice!) it is none of someone else's business. So nice to read a civil and kind comment from New.JANeration.

The shot of you modeling the monochromatic blush pink look with the diorama bag .... 😍😍😍 so stunning! Also I agree with the neutral makeup style, you hardly see models on the runway in bold looks. A suggestion for you if you feel like stepping out just a tad, replace your dark brown or black eyeliner with a red toned brown, it will still look neutral but totally make the green in your eyes pop! PS I am a subscriber and very frequent viewer. Love your videos 😊

Thank you so much for the suggestion of the eyeliner...I will definitely try that actually!! Such a good tip!! I need to order more eyeliner soon anyways...so I'll look for that!!! Thank you for watching my videos! :) XOXO

You are welcome! Something like MAC's eyeliner in Costa Riche would pair so well with your beautiful eyes! Kim Kardashian and Jaclyn hill both use it.

I think also always doing your hair, blowing it out adding curls or a cute pony tail I used to not want to invest in my hair be has I thought it was too expensive to have a nice cut and color but it's something you wear everyday so it's worth it

I agree completely, Desiree!! Spending time on a good cut and also styling your hair is very important!

New subbie, have viewed many times before without showing you the love. Sorry Shae. Neutrality is my thing! It is modern and fresh with out being loud. Quiet dressing is what I call it. A Crisp white shirt is always on point. Button down with a dramatic collar flip or worn oversized can do wonders. Add pearls and a pair of faded jeans. Too simple. And one last neutral add: for me...black pants or jeans. Extending that black to the foot wear. Which leads me to a good fit in boots. If you are wearing a too wide for you boot shaft it conveys the impression you need tailoring. Even if you are fully tailored else where. A great figure flattering fit in you boot (if it that style) ankle, knee or otk is very important. And you will find it elongates your silhouette and adds $$$ to your look. ( I do love a bold red heel, have been known to kick the black to the back of the closet at times!). Thanks style teacher, it was a fun class! : )

I got one for ya.. I am not a new subscriber and I watch many of your videos and I am part of your few male subscribers and within the males part of your straight male viewers (not that that matters) but for the most part males that watch these types are videos tend to be more gay than straight, or at least if they are straight they don't want to admit that they watch these types of videos because they might think people will think they are gay . But am a straight male who likes fashion and luxury and I watch these to inform myself more so if a future gf or for my sister and can pick things out and get a feel for what girls may like .. love your videos and hey help A LOT!

You should be a big hit with the girls then! Most girls dream of a man interested in fashion, lol.

Ironically, the design stuff looks tacky.
@westie4305 жыл бұрын
Yes. Tacky & assumed fake. Every time I see a Gucci belt or LV bag I assume it's not real.😏
@janinebean42767 жыл бұрын
Yeah the belts and the scarf I think are a bit tacky to me. Maybe if the scarf was like beige or black with the logo on it, but to me adding a big horrendous belt or scarf to a nice outfit and paying $200 for it just to wear a logo just screams superficial and cheap to me. I totally agree with the jewellery, and i would say if you want to incorporate something nice and designer, get like, a Michael Kors watch or maybe some designer sunglasses instead. They add class because they genuinely LOOK nice, shiny, and high quality, and the logo is understated so it's not screaming at you. Also a nice watch just makes you look like a more serious person. :P As for colourful makeup done well, yes you definitely don't want to wear blue eyeshadow poorly, but it's pretty easy to learn some fun bold eye looks online and pair them with a nude lip. And I never buy expensive versions of trends, I always spend my money on either staple wardrobe pieces, shoes, warm boots (I live in Canada so all my winter boots are minus 30 proof and water proof), a nice jacket (peacoat or pleather), bras, and a few nice pieces of jewellery. I have a thin dainty gold necklace with a circle pendant I wear every day and a claddagh ring I wear every day from Michael hill, unless I want to switch them out. Also, buying your designer stuff on clearance at the end of season. The Bay (hudson's bay company) has a lot of high end designers, and they have like 70-80 percent clearance at the "end" of a season where you can save hundreds or thousands of dollars. I would just try to stick with basics for this lol.

As a hairstylist a good color job will make you look expensive as well. i actually had to tell you i live in a small city in montana but one time i worked with an older gentleman who said a well done blonde hair color looks expensive. he would joke and say blondes look expensive. i laughed but i think what he means in all the world of home hair jobs, its very hard to get a good blonde out of a box. so to him he associated blonde hair that looked nice with someone who had money bc honestly being blonde is spendy to maintain. i won't limit it to being only blonde looks expensive. I'm not trying to be shallow but i think having a well done color does make you look expensive. love your videos!
