The thing with the album in this day and age is that a lot of musicians still regard it as a bundle that must be delivered as a complete package in one go, even if that isn't even how it was historically done. My theory is that you can absolutely create a body of work on the framework of an album and have an actual album in your catalog at the end of a year of 18 month period, BUT you treat it as a "season" in a series. The album concept gives you a focussed aesthetic for designs (artwork, backdrops, stage props etc.), themes and sounds for the songs and social media posts. Each song can be a single (doesn't have to be) with cover art and spotify canvas that is consistent and tied together until the album is fully released, after 6-10 monthly singles, or maybe you release the full album on bandcamp but drip it out as singles on the streaming platforms. The Album is your (band's) aesthetic for the next 6 months or a year or 2. It's basically another level of Batch Creation like Damian advices for social media content. You can do it over the course of a month and while it all drips out you can already start planning and designing the next one.

Great advice about the 100 songs. This year, I have written, recorded and filmed myself making 276 songs/demos so far. I'm trying to get to 300 by 2024. It was day 160 when I had a video blow up and I got 30k followers on TikTok and 500k views. I'm still learning as I'm going on but I'm starting to learn how I can use my super powers to stick out. Thanks Damo for the great advice!

The roadblock I run into all the time is startup capital and pragmatic time... whilst on paper I have time, realistically having a gruelling 7:00-5 job ruins any sense of productivity for evenings. My strength is the number of songs I write in a short space of time, and live performance. But to perform live I need money for equipment, and (to make it the best show for an audience) other musicians. It feels like such a slow grind that its de-motivating

This was amazing information. I have a friend who has an interesting bio. But he is concerned about his age. He comes from a father who was in the music industry and has since passed. My new friend is amazing and Very gifted but doesn't seem to be able to fly or present as himself. I think he said he had over 50 songs written. He has an amazing voice and a natural ability to write. He has been singing And performing since he was 8. At least 50 years. I spiritually connected with him recently and I can see one of his songs being part of a soundtrack for a movie with a good message. Or perhaps even being a song for an International charitable organization. At this time I don't understand fully. Why he hasn't gone for it, especially with his family roots in music. And his ability and talento write sing and play instruments. Very personable very charismatic human. I think I overwhelm him which i do not want to do. I sent him your link to this awesome New Year 2024 focus. Thank you for making this and I will look forward to listening to more of your sharing. I listened to your entire post every word ❤

Yes!! This long form, less edited videos are SO much better!! ❤ We grew up on the same music 😊 I actually think that less options is a good thing. The problem with all streaming is option paralysis...and all the bad quality stuff. I LOVE that I grew up in the cassette and LP time...and CDs as a teenager. There was so much more love in finding music to own and to show friends. An app on a phone is just so insanely uninteresting. I've felt this way ever since streaming came into the picture. Cause nobody Will stole your time, your artistry, your talents, your songs, your visión, your concept and every other Word we like to write, produce, compose, etc. Just do the f*cking songs first, then you'll be able to get another step. And that's the way It goes. Be worried about getting yourself a Happy new year 2024, then go back to music, It Will be there waiting for you. Be happy, be blessed and be loved. 🎶🌎🧡🙌🏻😊

Damian, love your content! The one thing I have yet to really see is a plan for songwriters. I want other artists to sing my songs, but I release singles occasionally, following your plan-a little, just to put myself out there. Of course being a songwriter means I WANT to be in the background so social media is anathema to me. And with algorithm changes I can’t even get more than 200 views anymore. Do I even need to market myself that way since it’s producers, A&R, managers, publishers, and artists who are my real target audience? But all the 10-step plans I ever come across are for performing artists. Is my only solution to continue to pitch to publishers? How do I make myself known as a songwriter?

You’re where I was when I first started. And no I don’t mean that in a disrespectful way. I didn’t want to be the artist, just the songwriter but I quickly realized it’s all about who you know. You’re better off being the artist until you get a song off then going back into the songwriter world. Plenty of artists did that. You may call em one hit wonders but they popped off a song, got a good deal then went back to why they originally started.
