He's obviously thinking about AI generated content - not human content.- and those timeless ideas are just training data for later... So whilst you say you are not ranting - it's the last refuge of a dying art form since we're clearly becoming more invisible

Wonderful insights. I agree with you on 99% of this one. As someone that has released stuff in the past, I've always wanted to take music more seriously and definitely have the capability to. I think I have a solid plan now but in the past it has derailed me or been incredibly discouraging to finally get 1k plays then go on Spotify and see it made me 19 cents... then Spotify sends me emails about paying insane monthly fees to be placed onto their personalized Playlists "promising" it will pay for itself. It felt like a complete kick in the gut and realizing to be successful my plan is to have a strong skin and make money from selling digital products as opposed to the raw music itself.

I can personally say in my small town, support networks like that would of led to about 4 to 6 extremely talented artists all collaborating and who knows, someone definitely would of made some amazing tracks along the way. But sadly we could never organize something like that ourselves because we did try on several occasions but it would fizzle out and insanely difficult with lack of resources and spaces to go to

Spotify should make the audience subscribe to artists before the music can be played on free version. So when someone licks on an artists music it comes up with a message saying subscribe to listen.

Damian, your video on AI tools for music is killer stuff! Got me thinking about other efficiency tools like FilterBounce for cold emails. Been using it for 4 months to verify emails and keep my bounce rates ridiculously low. Also, it is only $10 a month, making it super affordable. Absolutely recommend it.

welcome to capitalism. spotify is a company and as such it's only motive is to make money. and they're apparently pretty good at it. education? universities? grants? that's what governments do. spotify has absolutely no incentive for doing any of that. if you want change you need to change the system not argue that someone who's just doing ther job should provide charity. if daniel ek did what you want, quarterly results would go down and he'd be replaced by someone who'd make the numbers go up again. if people should get a fair share for the work they do, capitalism has to go.

We are the ones who give them the power to do this. The money doesn't jump itself into their hands. We are paying for the destruction of music. I still think messages like this are great and it's good for people to get that message but we keep saying it because we keep paying for it. Same with every streaming platform out there that has been engaging in similar business practices. Change doesn't happen until we drop the FOMO.

Spotify will be a standard pump and dump model. Now that they've cornered the market and made themselves indispensable they will increase the shareholder value by putting up subscription fees and then Ek will sell in a couple of years.

I like your ideas about it supporting growth and education. Maybe he's saying/hinting simply there's a plan to shift the whole business to AI produced spec music filler, top classic catalog assets, and net-positive profit-makers only, however, so the insult is just incidental to the real statement of-- you are not in my thoughts, and literally not part of the plan.😮 Cynical. But the statement he made is truly abhorent, however its intent manifests.

Spotify pays nexts to nothing for content, it is a content provider service. It pays maintenance for this service to provide the content that gets created. Getting paid for royalties is the issue. The legal system is broken. .100 000 new tracks uploaded per day, free content for spotify and they expand.
@virtascendgmbh53223 күн бұрын
I can tell you why Spotify doesn't help the small artists. Spotify wants to get rid of them. They're only interested in the big names because the labels shall get the money. The small artists will be replaced by AI bots run by Spotify itself so they don't need to pay the independent artist.

These days running the largest music distribution platform on earth is almost free, I think it is sort of stupid that they are taking out one billion in profits, while not even paying musicians their fair share. I understand that 50.000$ feels close to zero for a spoiled billionaire who stole most his tech from open source pirate bay, but if it feels like 50.000$ is so close to zero to him, he might as well just cover my expenses than. Like a drop in the bucket for him, but a lifetime achievement for a hard working and educated musician, who just happen to have produced remixes for some of the biggest artists on the fricking planet.
