I used your techniques to prepare for my final in differential equations, I watched videos at 2x the speed for 4 hours a day while taking notes and completed 24 hours worth of hard core studying in just 3 days and was able to pass my final exam while I was previously failing before hand and as a result can say without a shred of doubt that your techniques are the future of self taught education

@@remusomega i've also used his techniques to learn other subjects on my own (without tests), this is the first time i've done it with testing and have before and after results to compare and it does work as compared to just regular studying where you read some questions and answer them (maybe in a study group which isn't at all effective)

Siraj you forgot mentioning books! I too always try to learn from the internet but most of the time I end up procrastinating (and not only because of social media) I found out doing it the old school (disconnected and focusing on a book) has an immense impact. Just 10 20 pages a day will do magic in 3 months. Our generation is forgetting the value of books and ends up with shallow understandings of subjects.

I dropped out of university as well because I felt that I was learning WAY more by myself than at a school that's lessons were stuck in the past. Since dropping out things kind of got bad that I started to move away from the thing I used to love, writing code. I think it's got to do with my family not believing in me and still think that university is the way to go. Anyway, an amazing opportunity came up that lit a fire inside of me and now I'm slowly getting back on the right track. I'm glad I stumbled upon this video. Thanks Siraj

Hi, Siraj! Thanks for - another - great video. I will turn 61 in October, and still learning. I am a civil engineer (very traditional school in Brazil), always been self-taught, I have always loathed traditional classes. I am learning and using ML now, which I find great, mainly for a guy who likes statistics. And studying a lot, of course. Being older brings you some advantages, mainly experience. It is my opinion that ML without some good knowledge in the field you are applying it is dangerous, you will get very bad results. Regarding this particular video of yours, I managed to validate many of the things I have learnt on learning during the last 61 years. Thanks a lot for your channel, it is always a pleasure watching your very intelligent videos (humour is a very good indication of intelligence, IMHO). Oh, and I watched your video on notebook recommendation, I was glad that you mentioned a hackintosh. I am very glad I built mine. Thanks againg, Carlos.

I use some of these though I have a few more that I also use. I did complete college with a chemical engineering degree but I've taught myself countless programming languages and technologies, Japanese, machine learning, quantum computing, and of course all of the theory to go with this stuff; type theory, graph theory, lambda calculus etc. If you can commit to learning something then given enough effort you can do it; you just need to throw out your preconceptions. Btw, haven't worked as a chemical engineer ever; instead I've spent the past 20+ years working as a freelance developer and consultant for some large companies. Of course, learning back in the day was a bit different prior to the wide spread of KZbin and many of the resources on the internet. I used to sit in the library for hours upon end reading technical books and course curriculums. One technique that I absolutely swear by but you left out is the use of flash cards and programs like Anki. Having a set of concepts that you have to learn over a specific period of time certainly helps you get to where you need to go faster.
