The brushes. No, really. THE BRUSHES!!! They. Change. EVERYTHING!!! Ok, I’m done gushing (haha probably not but I’ll try anyway). I’ve done your tutorials before and done “ok” with them but today I was able to do this tutorial with my new set of the Art for Joy’s Sake brush set. I normally use either the synthetic squirrel brushes from Cheap Joes or the Princeton Aqua Elite and… …WHOA. The difference is huge, at least it was for me! I was even just playing in my sketchbook (a Canson XL) and as much as I know that watercolor paper is usually the “piece de resistance”, the vines still looked really nice! I can’t wait to try these brushes out on my watercolor mandalas. Thanks so much for making these available and affordable!

Mid watch, I had to look up your channel. I want to be better at watercolor. I’m currently making carrot people, gesture. I love the moment two colors merge...on the clothing of my carrot people. These leaves look like a great way to practice strokes, getting my watercolor fix with the merging of colors. My ears perked up when you said, “I don’t want you to get caught up in what I use.” That is how I have an M. Graham collection of watercolors. Early on I tried arches wc paper, I noticed a HUGE difference from all the other brands I tried previously. I appreciate your gentle teaching style. Sometimes, KZbin suggestions get it right. I cannot wait to try some vines, but I'm doing acrylics. I just made a display case, and I want to paint vines all over it. I was thinking something like a creeping fig. I was just looking at my creeping fig on my fence and just thought "wow it's so thick and overlapping but there's so many directions and shapes going on with the vines with such wonderful cascading at the top" so I thought it would be fun to paint vines looking like they're going from the back of the shelves and cascading forward over the sides and through the cracks in the back and stuff. I was scared that I'd mess it up, but I think I can do it just fine now.
@KristyRice Жыл бұрын
You will do just fine!! Let me know how it goes!!

@@KristyRice Thanks! So far, I did a little color study and then covered a page with vines, taking your advice but using kind of an in-between full and sparse pattern. But I layered them again and again and again with ever lightening colors until all the paint I had put on my palette was gone, and that was an excellent choice. The leaves went from deep blue green to increasingly yellow to magenta and light purple. It made me much more confident, and I think I'll do the same kind of thing on my shelves. I'll try to pour out just what I need, but I'll use up everything on my palette before pouring more. It made such unexpected color patterns that turned out so beautiful.

@@KristyRice Second update: I just did a little bit, but it's already really stunning, I think. I'm really enjoying myself, and I might make vines my Comfort Subject and just paint myself into a hole of structures being consumed by invasive vines on all my furniture... Ride or die green would be M. Graham's Sap green, it's in All my palettes. It mixes well with other greens, or any color, and gives them the realistic look I love, and just shines on it's own whether it's watered down or cream consistency. It also has the best "whoosh!" when adding it to a wet spot on the paper. So satisfying! I'm definitely going to try out this method of vines. They'll make great bookmarks! 👍🏻

I'm still watching but I can't wait to comment. I had watched you a bit over time but you have come up more and more in my searches for specific info. That means you have lots of content to offer. Like this video, you really know what you are doing. Your style, technique, and last but definitely not least, your energy make each video worth every minute. Going to the comments is worth the time as is visiting the Amazon shop. One thing I really love that you use is the paint tins and blocks. Please share with me where you get them. I found the little one you are using today, but I'm not sure how it differs from one of the episodes I watched last night when you emptied one tray and set up a new one. As a reminder, it was the one you asked for advice on what to do with all the leftover chips. The way you popped out the boxes or paint made me even more curious. You pushed them out from behind through what looked like a metal ???

Great video it really help my compositions. My florals always seem to be missing something and this has been the answer :) I love my windsor and newton paints, the pigments and choice of colors and all the things, however I really struggle with the greens! I have 7 different greens in my pallate and apart from one they are all so psychedelic. There are no greens like this in my garden though I do live in the UK. Which color do you lovely people think is the best to mix with mental greens to mute them quite a lot. I always gravitate towards an olive green which is getting a bit boring now :)
@teebee97352 жыл бұрын
My favs are M. Graham Sap green, and Schmincke Pyrelene green. I'm not sure Schmincke makes it anymore but Daniel Smith has one. Both of those will add life to the less realistic greens, plus you can try adding a bit of a pinkish red, like D.S. Mayan red to tone them down too. The Mayan red is not a favorite on it's own but I do like it mixed in with other colors.
