The last tip about getting “dressed”. 🙌🙌 I’ve noticed this as well. I’ve heard/read that back in the day, going to dinner or just out in public, one would dress nicely (I.e. put together). I think it’s a sign of respect for yourself and also others. I will never understand the pjs in public concept. ❤️🤗

I started working in courtrooms and lawyers' offices / working from home doing the transcripts in the mid '80s. Funny thing I noticed about myself: if I stayed dressed-down on the days when I stayed home doing transcripts, I just never got anything done. My kids would need me, I'd goof off, I'd do laundry and dishes and cooking all day...but no transcripts. If I "dressed up" to stay home on my "stay home and work" days, I actually got work done. Taught me a lot. During the pandemic, once I finally lost my job and went on unemployment, I decided that I'd get up, take my shower, get dressed, and "go to work" at the coffee shop, and write. It was fabulous. I got to experience myself as a working writer, something I'd always wanted to do anyway. Then when I actually *did* get hired again, my wardrobe stayed the same, a basic business casual Pacific Northwest capsule wardrobe with a few "trending" items thrown in. I could have gotten away with yoga pants and Columbia zip-up fleece jackets here at the coffee shop like most everyone else here...but I stuck with the business casual look.

Your last point about just getting dressed is so true, and doesn't depend at all on what's in style. Last year I was in Bilbao, Spain for a couple of days. In the evenings residents would promenade along the riverfront and they ALL were dressed with intention. Old people, young people, old clothes, new clothes, in style, not. They all looked so good because and simply because they'd made some effort.

Yes! I have always dressed up. My hubby learned to dress the European way ever since my hubby traveled with me and saw his picture looking like a typical American tourist ( baseball hat, black jacket and blue jeans ) in every places we went to in Italy. Now I have a well dressed man next to well dressed me in our European trips.

As someone who is a full-time caregiver who only gets out to run errands and doctor appointments, I always leave the house dressed up and put together, and because I have so many going out clothes I'll find a way to tone down certain items for every day wear like for example a sequin skirt with a graphic tee and doc martens 😊

I can't understand how most Americans dress. So sloppy! I have always tried to look presentable. I know it's harder when you have young children but it can be done. I am in my 60's now and while I have dressed nicely, I have stepped up my game since watching yours and other style videos. Loving the brown and black combos. Way back when i was a little girl colouring the dresses in colouring books, I would use 'inappropriate' colour combos like black and brown, green and turquoise, red and pink. I was always told it was wrong. How times have changed! What was done then was dress to go out. Looking at photos from 40s, 50s and 60s, people just looked so polished. I think when we do that, it shows respect for others a well as ourselves. Im so ready for us to take a cue from those eras and glam it up a little. Lead the way my dear. Yes! The monochromatic look always works for me- intentional and effortless at once. Example, last week for a matinee and casual cocktails I wore off-white jeans, a white tee shirt and beige loafers and added my oversized off-white denim jacket when needed. I got several gushing compliments (incl a random person at the bar). Tonal jeans and a tee are pretty easy, but I think the loafers make it. Thanks, Anna- I love love your style!💙from Oregon

🔨 Nailed it! In another video that I had watched early on, you talked about "getting dressed" one day a week. You even said Tuesdays, which is the day I picked! Lol Tues is "my" day for being able to go to town, shopping, the library. I've had my first pair (black) for 4 years and they look brand new, just bought a tortie pair two weeks ago and I'm in love! You’re so right about “throwing on whatever” these days! 😩 I used to LOVE dressing up or putting effort into it. My personal issue is weight gain. And when I look at fashion, it’s normally on very thin tall women, which is fine, because we’re all different! ❤ I’m NOT body shaming! ☺️ But it’s hard for me to see that, and think of how that outfit would translate on my size 10/12 frame. I agree about people not caring about what they wear in the States. When I first came to the US it was so jarring to me because I’m used to people getting dressed even if it’s just going to the store. I’m not saying everyone looks like fashion models where I’m from, but you can see there’s some intention behind the outfits. I’ve been to restaurants here where the waiters are better dressed than the patrons.

I just really appreciate your kind, genuine delivery in all of your videos, and just the content of your videos in general. I recently lost 55 lbs, and I am now considered "middle aged"....I guess 😬 lol (I'm 42). I had really fallen out of love with clothes because of it. When I was younger, I always loved shopping, but as I had steadily gained weight and not feeling good about myself, I lost that love for being stylish and caring about how I looked. I have always loved black and brown together. But it's true. It was kind of a fashion faux pas along with wearing white after Labor Day, or not matching your purses and belts and shoes. Another one that was considered a full pile was black and navy. And recently, I have been really loving that I saw a woman wearing black and a dark navy together, and I thought it looked so cool and so interesting.

I’m trying to revamp my closet and change the way I was taught to dress. I was always taught you put your darkest color on the bottom and you never mix brown and black in an outfit. I am finding out that I have a severe love of black or maybe a go to piece and it always has black. I am trying to change my mindset, a mixing brown and blacks, and also putting browns in my daily wardrobe. I never wore white or creams ever due to the crazy rules, they had years ago when it was OK to wear white or cream or when it was not. I like all the points you brought up here. I am obsessed about finding the right sunnies for my small face. I try on so many in stores and none of them fit my face. (I have a wider nose bridge and many sunnies make my eyes look too close together. For me, It's the same as finding the right styles/outfits that look good on your body. I like the 3 color rule. I agree! Make some effort in dressing! When we go to the doctor most people are wearing jeans, t-shirts& sneakers. The doctors will sometimes comment on how nice we look. People do notice. And if you have the clothes why not wear them!
