That last note hit me hard: overexertion is not cute. It's true that in the college realm we do tend to romanticize being over worked and stressed and tired and it can be super damaging. Thank you for touching on that because more people need to hear that. Myself included lol

I can totally vouch for the smart friends advice and the advice on feeling inadequate when surrounded by smart people. I go to a magnet high school that is an all IB program school and basically everyone is really smart and gets amazing grades. I became close friends this past school year (11th grade) with a group of particularly high achieving girls and we often study together and I learn so much from them. There certainly have been times when I felt super inadequate and like I wasn't working as hard as they were (romanticizing overexertion is a huge problem at my school), but in the end the impression that I got from my friends is that everyone feels this way about each other sometimes so no matter how smart you are or someone else is everyone feels like they aren't good enough from time to time. Once I started to think of the people around me as friends and resources and not as competition I felt much better and more secure in myself. Good luck to everyone starting college in the fall!

Tip: a good calendar to use is MyHomework! It's an app on Apple/Android that you can sync across your phone, computer, and tablet! I actually use this as my planner because I don't like paper planners. You can input all of your homework assignments, tests, quizzes, and projects into it! I love it, and I also will go through the week and write everything down on Post-Its so I can visually see my assignments in front of me. It's great for people that don't like an actual planner :)

Hi! I start college in a couple weeks and I just wanted to say that your videos have been so helpful!! Especially what you were saying about not feeling smart enough. I'm going to a pretty competitive university and I'm scared I may be overwhelmed by how intelligent everyone else is. Your advice meant a lot to me and can't wait to watch more back to school videos!!

I rarely comment on anyones channels because I feel like it'll go unnoticed but I just couldn't help myself hehe. All of your videos are such a breathe of fresh air because they are actually useful ! Most youtubers don't emphasize the importance of school because they do youtube full time. Its SUCH a relief to finally find someone thats relatable . Hope you have a wonderful Junior year. xoxo- Emily

Great tips for starting off the school year right! Setting yourself up with a strong, organized academic foundation will go a long way, especially during your freshman year in college. While attending class, making relationships with your professors and friends and creating a study plan seem obvious, these are amazing tips for being a successful student!

The tip about making friends with studious people is so true. Also living with studious people. It's so much easier to be engaged and focus when you surround yourself with the same type of people. Having fun is important - but work ethic is everything. You are in college for the purpose to learn, so just think about that!!!
@annemariechase8 жыл бұрын
Oh my goodness, that is so true about living with studious people! Unfortunately, the opposite happened for me this year, so I had to deal with a lot of "ugh you're always studying" judgmental comments. Living with people who take their academics seriously would be VERY helpful and motivating! Great advice :)

@carolinerussell95568 жыл бұрын
Look over the material and mark it! I always put paper tabs/ flags in my textbook/ notebook and write down the specific question I have to make sure I don't waste my professors time. It can be specific, detail-oriented questions, or more broad questions on topics to get a better understanding of them.

That overexertion comment really had a big impact on me and how you said don't romanticize it... Because I do use that as an excuse to say how hard I'm working is okay and that I have to do everything in my power now to live life so grand later. And although that's partly true it's only true to an extent. Because the reality is if I don't relax I get really depressed/exhausted and its not cute or rewarding in the end... It's just another problem or stress to add to my life. Not sure if I explained myself well but I hope you kind of had an idea of what I meant!
