I have a large weeping bottlebrush tree in my yard. I love it! It sealed the deal on buying this house for me.

Weeping trees are so pretty. Picked up a Cercidiphyllum japonicum Morioka Weeping recently for off the back of my house. Planning on building a deck up to where I planted it. Make a nice spot to chill in the eve with a coffee. Best time to plant a tree is 10 years ago. Sooner they're in the ground, sooner you can enjoy them.

Another great weeping tree is a weeping yaupon holly. Grows 7a-9b, stays evergreen, and has red berries in the winter.

Wow didnt know honey locust could be a weeping variety. We had a European Weeping Larch in our zone 5 IL garden and loved it.

I’m so glad that you mentioned Mimosa trees. I’ve been told to destroy all of them on our property, but they’re absolutely everywhere so what’s the good of killing the few we have when there are thousands around nearby? I can pull up any new seedlings that pop up, but I just can’t cut down a large tree that looks like a pink, fluffy umbrella. It’s gorgeous and smells heavenly.

My weeping purple mimosa is several years old and has not produced seeds. I bought another one this spring. Beautiful plant.

A semi common weeping tree you see around here is a mulberry that’s a perfect umbrella. Some have fruit and some don’t. Southern Michigan

Pyrus salicifolia 'Pendula'- a hanging ornamental pear with blue-grey leaves and cute little fruit in autumn is one of my favorite trees in my garden. It’s definitely the most asked about, too.

Thanks for including mimosa trees! I know they are invasive but I absolutely love them. They remind me of my grandma's house. I didn't realize they came in purple weeping varieties! Wow, not many 'weeds' I will fork out $$ for but that I will! I will put it in the spot where the bradford pear tree is that I am going to cut down. I do have some standards!! 😂

I noticed that mimosa’s are having the “crape myrtle effect” in which since they’re so highly invasive… I see them almost every day driving to work so I have no reason to get one myself since more than likely eventually one of them is going to show up in the wood line on my road

My Dad always talked about wanting Mimosa trees in the yard. Trouble was, front and back yards were full of pine trees.

I had no idea about most of these. I am familiar with many of the weeping conifers, the weeping Redbud, weeping Cherry, and Japanese Maples, but the others were all new to me. I very much want a weeping conifer but can't make up my mind. Have you done a video on the world of contorted trees such as the Harry Lauder Walking Stick? Some of the trees you featured here also exhibit contorted behavior such as the Mimosa and Hackberry. Another tree that fascinates me and I intend to possess is cryptomeris cristata or Japanese Cockscomb Cedar. Do you know of any other trees that display this crested growth. I do have a cryptomeria Black Dragon and this is the softest, most touch-friendly cedar I have ever encountered. If you haven't noticed, I am fascinated by the odd and unique trees and shrubs that have decided to grow "outside the box" and show their uniqueness just for the fun of it. I love the "different drummers".

That weeping elm looks like a shaggy elephant. I name the interesting trees in our local botanic garden and greet them as friends when I visit. I’d name your elephantine specimen ‘Babar’ and hail him when I see him.

My husband loves wheeping trees, but we're on septic, so I don't want to use a willow or cherry. I wrote so many of these varieties down for further research. If you could recommend some that have well-behaved root systems, I'd love the recommendations.

At Stephen F. Austin University (Nacogdoches, TX) they have a walkway lined with some weeping bald cypress that is beautiful. Jim if you ever make it out here to TX you need to go down there and get an interview with Dr. Creech. The big problem with hackberry, at least here in TX, is that there is a caterpillar that regularly infests them and makes a huge mess. Literally covers the entire tree in webs and eats most of the leaves off them. The trees have evolved with them and recover fine the next year but it makes it a poor choice for landscaping around here. Without the caterpillars they'd be great shade trees as they are long lived and quite healthy otherwise.

I have a Salix caprea 'Pendula' recently planted. It's pretty, stays small, and I love those fuzzy rabbits foot catkins. Wish i knew how much Japanese beetles were so fond of willows...cause they decimated the foilage.

I’m in central FL 9b too. One great substitute for a purple foliage Japanese maple is the ‘Summer Chocolate’ Mimosa tree. I have one and it’s super gorgeous. I’ve also got a lavender tabebuia that has a beautiful form and bark to it. It has palmate leaves (hand-shaped) which remind me a lot of a Japanese maple. You also can’t beat tabebuia tree flowers in winter/spring. For redbud substitutes, definitely check out orchid trees! I have a beautiful bauhinia variegata. They are in the same family as redbuds and have beautiful leaves and some of the most beautiful flowers of any plant. The Hong Kong orchid trees are great.

Same! I would really love to find small ornamental trees that will do well in 9b climate besides plumeria.

@@Angie_P some great options for small trees are Sparkleberry, Geiger trees, tree-formed Jatropha, sweet acacia (rare but great tree), chocolate mimosa tree, or midsize crape Myrtles like ‘Acoma.’ I’d recommend checking out University of Florida’s pages on ornamental trees.

I love Japanese maples but I prefer them limbed up to see their trunks. They can look like big blobs when not trimmed. I’d like to suggest you list the trees you’re talking about in the description box. I like to go back to old videos and it makes it easier to find the one with the plant I’m looking for.

Jim we have a terrible problem with voles, they ate neighbors big beautiful redbud and killed it and has eaten some of my hosta and little gem arborvitae, they are trying to kill my evergreens eating the roots. What can we do to get them to stop or leave? Also what can we plant that rabbits voles deer don't like? Thank you on advance for info. I cry everyone I see some f my plants or shrubs or trees dying that the voles or deer get and eat and kill!!!!

Oh my goodness, we are right there with you! Unfortunately, looking for plants that are deer and rabbit "resistant" hasn't really helped us. They eat everything! We've got hordes of hungry critters, above and below ground. We've made cage barriers for the above-ground critters, but that does nothing for the underground ones of course. Mixing permatill with your planting soil should help prevent the roots from being eaten, but if you have a large garden with lots of things already planted, that may be impractical. You can find videos with ideas from Master gardeners and others. We still struggle though to embrace the wildlife that live here too ! Good luck!
