To begin with, kids should *never* have a means to use parents' credit card; even better, give them allocated money for a month with no supervision, but if they ran out of it, that's it. No begging anymore. That's what my parents do, there's a day when i spent it carelessly & have to bear with not buying any snack for the rest of the month; i even got slammed by my dad after being caught stealing their money. That first one about the 18yr old buying $20,000 in genshin, is so common over in Asia. Generally, you stick with your parents until you get a really good job or get married. I have cousins in Korea who are nearing their 40’s and they have never had a real job in their lives, live with their parents, and mooch money off them every day. And they spend their money solely on alcohol, games at the Internet cafe, and cigarettes. There’s a reason why I don’t speak to them.

I knew a guy in school that had one functional hand. He said it was fortunate that the games he liked to play didn't require super fast reactions. I think he liked sport games like FIFA and such and he had a method where he would balance the controller to use the buttons he needed. The point is it's cool that a fully working controller can be used with one hand. I hope this gets adopted by the companies.

She did it because she had an addiction facilitated by parasitic game devs. Imagine your mom handing you a card to pick up some groceries only to find that you withdrew $20k for a new car or something. From my understand for the news on the 20k spent on Genshin Impact, the credit card was linked to a fare card that is use to pay for bus fare. Every time the fare card run out of money it will top up automatically from the credit card. So the game company allow payment using fare card. The girl in the news keep using the fare card to pay for the gambling activities in Genshin Impact. It was like a back door for the game company access to the parent's credit cards if parents linked the fare card to their credit cards for schooling children transportation. You can use this fare card to pay for Macdonald in Singapore too. Last but not least, Genshin Impact is by a China company.

I hate seeing people say 'kids' spending huge amount of money is microtransactions/lootboxes fault. You can find plenty of stories about kids buying thoughts of dollars worth of stuff from amazon with alexa. Or other stories of kids taking their parents card info to buy things without permission. We need to stop hiding behind the fact that the company gives you the freedom to buy what you want and just accept that no matter how 'predatory' their business model is, at the end of the day they are not forcing you to do anything. The people who have problems with this are people with addictive personalities or have a bad understanding of the value of money. These people would have the same problems elsewhere if something else interested them. It's just that games are interesting to most people so of course there's a lot of stories.

Saying it's the companies fault that adults with no self control, knowingly spend ludicrous amounts of money on microtransactions, only furthers the cognitive dissonance of those who make these outrageous purchases. They're addicted. And as long as everyone keeps blaming it on the companies, these individuals will never take action and overcome their impulsive behavior. Even if you take away microtransactions, they'll just find something else to get that dopamine hit. Mind you, there's nothing to be ashamed of if anyone reading this has these unhealthy impulses. I have an addictive personality. I've just learned how to channel that emery into more productive and fulfilling activities. It's not easy but I know it's doable and I would like for people like to me to get the help they need. And passing the blame will never achieve this. The buck stops with you.

@@GrillerRohde A trap is not illegal in this case, therefore allowed. It's always funny to hear some people say, "That should be illegal!" What they actually mean is, "That should be illegal but I don't actually care enough to make this happen because I only care enough about this issue to make this blanket token statement of concern." Pressure to make this behaviour by gaming companies illegal is not happening in most countries. "We" have the power to influence law makers to make that change, but we haven't cared enough to do so, collectively. I will freely admit there are those, some governments in Europe, for instance, that do not like this predatory gaming/gambling and have made inroads to force change.
