The only thing I disagree with is the Peerless Small Batch Bourbon. Let it breath some and go back to well! To me, it always has such a lingering sweet flavor and finish - so good!

Peerless small batch is one of my favorites too. Actually prefer it over the variability of the single barrel.

Great video topic. We all have bottles we’ll never go to again. For me I’m always disappointed in several Buffalo Trace products, like EH Taylor, Buffalo Trace and the Kosher High Rye have all left me scratching my head why people like them…all 3 very thin in flavor, tastes watered down. Stagg and the Weller lineup are the only ones I’ve liked from them. Also any whiskey from TX I avoid like the plague. The state just has the wrong weather to age whiskey, I discovered this the hard way lol. Also anything from Makers Mark. Their 46 cask strength tasted exactly like NyQuil or Robitussin cough syrup. Too medicinally sweet for me.

I truly appreciate your take on these bottles. It’s amazing how we all have different tastes and preferences. I actually really like Elmer, OF and KC 18 to a point that I’m in the process of doubling up on all these bottles. However; I love hearing other folks taste preferences. Thank you for the video.

I love the Knob 18, have all three. You folks are the first I've ever heard say it's not oaky enough, most complain the opposite! 😁 Cheers!

Congrats on 1K subscribers. Here are a couple of my takes. I’m with you on Elmer T. Lee. I was gifted a bottle earlier this year that I haven’t opened but tried Michter’s Sour Mash and am just not a fan of the mash bill. As for OFSBBS, I think it depends where you get them from. Seems like in Cali, you all don’t get as many Single barrel picks from local liquor stores compared to the big box stores (Total Wine, BevMo, Safeway) which does you all a disservice. I think if you all find a store that visits KY frequently and their pallet matches yours, your viewpoint might change. You all said you got the Peerless Rye and Bourbon on clearance…how much? I agree for MSRP there are tons of better options in the market. The double oak is probably the best on the market (IMO) and there are some killer single barrels (store picks). Lastly, as for Sagamore, I don’t think you all got any 2024 releases. In the last three months, they’ve dropped the Maple Cask Finish, 9 Year, and Bottled-in-Bond. Assuming since you all are on the west coast, distribution might be delayed but I think you have to stay current to give a more fair market assessment since that’s kind of what the rest of Whiskey Tube does. Just my .02 but great video.

Thank you for watching and subscribing! 🎉 Our OF pick actually was from a local liquor store, which added to the disappointment. Totally agree on generally avoiding big box picks! We’re also huge Sagamore fans and have praised a lot of their recent releases, so we’re on the same page there! These two older bottles just weren’t our speed. 😊

Agree or disagree, I love hearing your recommendations. I have a bit of a soft spot for the High West Campfire as it was the first whiskey with any peat smoke that I ever tasted and it opened the door to other peated whiskeys that I've gotten into. It seems pretty tame now and I don't go back to it very often. Also when I got it it was only 55 bucks. 70 definitely seems a bit much for a gimmicky whiskey. Definitely agree with what you said about Elmer T. Lee. I picked one up for a hundred bucks a while back and it's fine but it's not worth a hundred let alone full secondary prices. The only other whiskey on your list that I have any experience with is Sagamore and I have their Manhattan finish and I absolutely love it. The two you have did sound a bit odd but I recommend waiving your rule on Sagamore finishes if you ever see their Manhattan. I'll heed your warning on all the others you mentioned.

Totally agree on the ETL! We’ll keep an eye out for the Manhattan finish. We generally love Sagamore products, but these two were just misses for us. Cheers! 🥃

I’m with you on the OF single barrel. I got one from Mission Wine and Spirts in Pasadena and I was very disappointed. Harsh is a great way to describe it.

OF SiBs are known to vary widely. I have has some disappointing ones but brought a delicious one home last year from the distillery. But the variety makes it quite a gamble at $80-plus unless you can taste it first. Same thing happened with Henry McKenna 10-year. I really like Peerless SB and SiB but they are a bit pricey. They make some crazy good SiB's--we had a delicious one that tasted like apple crumble at the distillery, and took home a rye finished in absinthe barrels that my wife has claimed as her own, but again, they vary so much that you need to try before you buy.

the OF SiB is on my list to buy. There are a few that Ive seen at the local liqour store . They are priced at 96.99. I havent pulled the trigger because I haven't tried it and they have sat for a minute. Im 50/50

From what we’ve heard, they vary a lot barrel to barrel. If you can, try to get a sample from the store before you buy! Cheers! 🥃

Funny thing is, while I agree the ~$200 ask for KC18 is too high, it's far and away my favorite KC pour. Overall, I haven't loved any other expression, including a barrel pick by Fred Noe. KC18 has this really nice orange zest note and isn't overly oaky despite the age statement. It's a sweet, well-seasoned oak. Then again, I have batch 3 and I heard batch 2 was underwhelming. 3, from what I understand, is much closer to batch 1 in profile.
@TheWhiskeyBreak7 күн бұрын
Sounds like we just got unlucky on our batch! Glad you’re enjoying the pour! 😊

I was at Jim Beam Distillery last week and had a pour of the KC18 and loved it. I would have bought a bottle but it's a little too pricey and I had bought so many other bottles on my Bourbon Trail trip.😊😊

Totally agree with the Old Forrester single barrels and thought I was the only one. I love their 1910 and 1920, but not this. Still haven't tried the Peerless double baked, their prices seem to be all over the place. Thanks, Cheers!
@scottmattern4828 күн бұрын
Same here, I got a single barrel - barrel proof with high hopes. I think I prefer 1920 and it's significantly less money. I did get mine from total wine, so I'm sure there are better picks out there.

Yeah, we’ve seen a lot of mixed feelings about the OF. We definitely recommend the Peerless Double Oaked if you can find it for $80! Cheers 🥃

Not sure if the one you have is from a big box store or a local you trust but I'd suggest maybe trying a different Old Forester SiB BP from a store that you really like their picks. Same goes for the 100 proof version. Enjoy your videos!

I agree. I have one from a store that fits my pallet and it’s sweet. Other ones I have are hot 🔥. Just add a splash of water or an ice cube if you want to mellow it out.

2:10 pro tip, the "Bourbon Junkies" have horrible palettes. Very rarely do they actually pull good notes from a tasting.

I have a bottle of Campfire from 2019ish and it's just smoke, nothing else, don't like it. ETL is watered down cherry whiskey, it's ok. Knob Creek 18, I love it, I'll buy it every year and it's $165ish where I live. I have a bunch of Old Forrester SBBP and they're bangers and the rye is amazing. Only finished BBC I have is The Prisoner and I love it, but It's VERY wine forward, the only other one I'll grab is the Silver Oak and I have all the discos from 4-10 still chasing 11 and 12 for a decent price. Haven't had a Peerless I like, IMO it's overpriced, overhyped garbage. Finished Sagamore is hit or miss.
