This is a great example of what makes expensive tools a joy to use vs the cheaper version just being serviceable.

SE Tools makes good hose clamp pliers. $17 and made in the USA. They have some larger and angled models for under $30. Mine work well, and I haven't had any issues with them.

I use the small spring clamps on small engine fuel lines such as snowblowers, outboards etc. i use mine only occasionally. The Snap On pliers could be for a mechanic that uses them every day. I enjoy this channel,by the way!

I have hose clamp tools from Knipex, Mayhew, and some others. For the larger “flat” radiator clamps like on my Tundra, nothing worked except the Malco Eagle Grips and an Allen wrench. Now it’s my go to.

I’ve never been a huge fan of dedicated hose clamp pliers. I’ve had a few pairs through the years and they never caught my fancy. My go to since they came out have been the 3 sizes of Snap-On 3 position slip joint pliers. Every once in a while a clamp will slip and snap a finger but not too often to feel the need to switch to something else lol

Good for lawn tractors. And most of the time, you're just pinching it to move it down the hose so it can't get away from you. Looks like a good chose to me. Thanks Doc

$35 on amazon they have kits with 8-10 different kinds of clamp pliers. The remote access pliers with a cable is the best for hard to access clamps.

doc curious if you have seen the Quinn ones from hf completely different design looks like the business end is a little bulky but looks like it handles more diverse clamps, would be curious your opinion

Depending on frequency of use like most, we pick and choose when we pony up for a quality tool. In this case, I picked up a while back a nine piece multi hose clamp kit on Amazon for $25.00 similar to the quality of this WorkPro tool.

Im currently using those work pro wrench on a build. They work but that spring mechanism has already lost tension and the lever has already began skipping gears causing the clamps to shoot everywhere. With that being said Snap-on has lost their minds charging $80+ for theirs.

You have a favorite pilot bearing puller? Had quite a struggle getting mine out, finally came free with a slide hammer from harbor freight

I have used bread and a punch. Fill it up with bread and punch the center hole and just like hydraulics will push the pilot bearing out. You can use grease too if wanted but the bread cleans easier.

Well Doc saved me from buying the Knipex cobra style hose clamp plier after watching the video he did on it. I ended up buying a cheapie and its been fine for the limited I do.

Lisle makes a pretty decent one...

KD Tools. They make them at all price levels. Someone also mentioned Lisle. That's another good one.

If I was still working on cars, no doubt I would choose the snap-ons. I did without and made my own. Im not sure when this snap on set came out but I never saw anything like them 15 years ago. Looking back, was not worth trying to save a few bucks on some cheaper tools. Some things were worth saving on, others not so much. This would be one of those no brainers going with the snap on. Those clamps suck when its 100 degrees outside, the engine bay is 200 degrees, you are laying on 130 degree pavement, trying to wedge your arm up into no mans land trying to get a clamp into place.

Who takes the clamp right off any way? Dont you slide it back over the hose and pull the hose off its fitting, just buy the best you can afford for the amount of times its needed

The simple "bore" portion in the Workpro can be modified for a better secured grip by cutting a small notch for the metal clip end to sit in. The other notched piece should also be modified so the metal clip end won't slip inward like you showed. Hehe maybe just get another tool than..😅

Dishwashers and washing machines still use hose clamps like that.

After struggling with 6 clamps on G.E. washing machine inlet valve I ordered a pair made by an appliance tech after the fact so haven't used them yet. They are vice grips and he brazed the round holding tips to them. I bought the pair he made instead of the knockoffs. Some people complained the knockoffs didn't last. I had on hand the fancy cable type. Didn't work. Had the fancy locking Knipex, didn't work. Had an old pair of cheap crappy stamped steel ones from the 70's marked KD Tools. Those are the only pair that worked. I probably bought them off a tool truck back in the day.

Yep the old KD tool ones work but you need tuff hand no comfort grips on them lol😊😊

Those snap on pliers are garbage! They don’t compress the clamp enough. Don’t waste your money!
@052RC4 күн бұрын
They're garbage because you don't know enough to buy the right size? Is your 18mm socket defective because it doesn't fit on a 22mm bolt?
@markdavis293 күн бұрын
@ I’ve been a tech professionally since 1997. I know my tools.
