Is this likely to work to make their built in gauge more accurate even when it properly reads zero when not connected to anything?

I have 2 pair of the LN46ACF, and i can't pick up coins either, but i also have the bigger ln47acf, and for some reason, they pick the coins up every time. I think the small ones have more movement side to side in the jaws n dont always line up

The Knipex ones usually say the cutting capacity and the material it's meant to. In your case it says piano 3mm meaning it will cut up to 3mm piano wire which is a tempered high-carbon steel. So... steel is allowed for the Knipex. Usually for cutters you'll see something like "Cu max 3mm", "hard max 1,2" for hardened steel, but it also comes in soft/medium.

Is this a Williams made piece? The site lists it as USA made and the selector looks very Williams. I will always buy the Williams version first, but this seems to be a Snap On exclusive design so I bit the bullet.

I have the knipex stepcut xl and the smaller stepcut. They are different but in a good way. You need to be careful and don't let anyone to use your cable shears, you may end up with a damaged tool. Do not cut steel warning is just for you. Nobody cares.

We made a trip up to the Smokies in late August. Went to Smoky Mountain Knife works and ended up buying two Sencut and a Civivi Knife. I can't believe the quality of these two brands (sister brands). I'd be hard pressed to put more in a basic EDC knife than what Sencut or Civivi offers. These two brands will be tough to beat for quite a while.

I have the older/vintage pair of red-handled Klein heavy cable cutters like the ones shown. I think I paid $10 for them at some clearance table or something back in the 90's. I may have used them twice. I prefer the diagonal cutters for wholesale romex/etc wire cutting.

Certain brands do specific tasks better than others. Milwaukee has a good power tool platform , Wera has quality screw Drivers and lots of compact multi tool options and Klein has you covered for electrical specific tools. Better to pick brands based on your needs than to stay true to one brand that lacks In areas .

Doc why not get your Blue Points & with the help of a small dremel or Foredom type rotary tool just adjust the tips of the cutters so they work better and dont risk catching. Might be worthwhile, might not be good for warranty.

I think people should be fanboys for companies that are deserving and honorable, the number one example for that is Toyota/Lexus. And it seems like almost anything made in Japan, at every turn the Japanese seem to do everything the best. It's their way of life I think anti fanboyism towards Snap On is justified based on their disgusting corporate greed and basically scamming people for a name brand - the Supreme of tools. Koken exists. People should value quality + value for money over an emotional/social attachment to a brand. As for Milwaukee I lean hard towards alternative options because there is that cult like - non informed consumer culture around it. So its DeWalt & Hercules for me

A company will immediately lose my business when they price gouge like snap-on. They're essentially spitting in your face, then smiling. Sorry, but I'm not taking food off my family's plates to put a snap-on dealer's kid through college. Clearly, they don't care about me or my family, so they won't get any money from me.

Fanboys can’t take any criticism of any of the tools from the particular manufacturer they are a fan of. To them it’s not ridiculously expensive or that other brands tool isn’t better than their tool even if it can be demonstrably better. I buy all brands of tools, whichever I think is better or serves my needs better or just feels better to use or I don’t think is ridiculously overpriced for what I need it to do.

I recorded a video today on a Craftsman tool and talked about nostalgia of that brand for me. 😁 Milwaukee and Snap-On are 100% the top fan-boy brands. In my opinion some people buy brands because they think it portrays an elevated status. When you say something negative about that brand you are threatening the status they paid for. I think haters are in part a result of the fan-boys. As someone who has a gained a respectable following being a hater. I can tell you nothing is more entertaining then watching a fan boy get mad 😜

I’m with ya! Snap On has branded themselves with the identity of the tool owner so what did they expect when competitors challenge their tools but are really attacking the identity of their owners. Powerful medicine at work on both sides. Only self confidence and a justified sense of purpose can overcome fanboydom. Milwaukee on the other hand is a mystery. It’s comparable would be Dewalt and I’ve never met a serious Dewalt fanboy. Have you?

It’s all subjective, of course. The earlier term was “fan“. Fanboy is the pejorative version. My personal definition is: Both fans and fanboys may like a brand, but fanboys won’t acknowledge shortcomings in any product of that brand.
