When I wake up and pick up my guitar I go right into master of puppets to warmup my picking hand😂

Learn alternate picking, i started downpicking everything and when i had to alternate pick it felt really unatural, to me anyway, learning Holy Wars sorted out this problem😂

One other thing about tabs is sometimes the person got the notes correct, but it isn't written in a way that the artist might play it live. In other words, it's written in a way that makes much harder to play than it should be. Don't be afraid to move notes up or down strings to consolidate hand position and make something more playable. If you know for sure it's written as played, then yeah just keep at the practice

Exactly. Someone making chords out of fret 3-16-22 😂

Couldn't agree more with the open chords - So many of my students want to shred and play riffs but learning open chords is like getting a child to eat vegetables when all they want is sweets..

Exactly!! So true isn’t it.

Learning theory without knowing it makes sense to me because once i started focusing on chords more my ear got alot better

Excellent video, really great advice. A couple things I’d like to add: First, I mostly agree with not forcing yourself to learn things you’re not interested in. But, some of my biggest breakthroughs and leaps forward happened when I just bit the bullet on something and did it. Theory being one of them. Even though it was mostly grueling, in the end it was absolutely worth it and made me a much better player overall. Second, besides avoiding injuries, warming up is vital to getting the nervous system to wake up, which is where your dexterity and accuracy come from. And this takes longer the older you get. At 41yo, even though I’m a much better guitar player than I was 20 years ago, it takes me much longer to warm up, but not because I’m at a higher risk of injury (I actually have much less tension and better form all around now) it’s because the actual signals that my brain is sending to my hands just aren’t as strong or as fast as they used to be. Any playing session under 30 minutes is basically wasted time, because it’s just a big sloppy warm up session lol.

Is there any decent apps that allow for turning down other instruments or slowing a song to get more practice using my ears? One problem I have is not being able to hear what’s going on properly.
@jamesyowell1083Күн бұрын
Ultimate Guitar lets you do that with their tabs. You can mute instruments or adjust how loud they are.
