10 WORST NES SPORTS GAMES

Hey everyone for this weeks countdown I take a look at the absolute worst sports titles on the NES. There was a couple of close ones that didn't quite make the list its amazing how many bad sports titles there are.
My reviews are 100% unbiased and I will never do one unless I am confident enough to do so. I use a scale of 1 - 10 with 5 being a average game. Many professional reviewers use 7 as a average game which I find is more of a trick to convince you the consumer that a game is better then it really is.

The worst sports games on the NES has one thing that makes them worthwhile... You can salvage parts off of them to fix more worthwhile games, especially the Game Pak housings. Oh, you've got a copy of Tecmo Bowl with a cracked case? Get a repro label and use a copy of LJN NFL to fix it.

The only one I’ve played from this list is NES Baseball. And yeah, it’s pretty awful. The batting is actually okay, but watching the world’s laziest outfielders move even slower than usual, so the trailing team can play catch-up, was infuriating.

I guess you could say that a George Foreman grill made for a better game than George Foreman Boxing on the NES. And, hey, I like "Winter Games." It's a cheap resource for replacement NES game pak housings. And no "Tag Team Wrestling?" No "Karate Champ?" No "Ring King?" Not even an honorable mention?

Part of me still considers NES Play Action football to be the worst sports game ever made. Overall it feels unplayable and I never have control of anything due to how much of a strategy game it feels like. No fun at all and I'm surprised that it didn't make this list, but seeing games like Pony's Winter Games makes it understandable

It takes some getting used to and is a mediocre game, but I enjoyed it. NFL football was the absolute worst sports title I ever played on any system.

Isn't it amazing how different two games could be? A football game is your #1 favorite NES sports game while another football game is your least favorite (I agree with you on both counts!) While a couple of games on this list are ones I played as a child, even some nostalgia can't save 10-Yard Fight or Winter Games as both of them DO deserve to be here. Winter Games could have been great (like a winter version of Track & Field) but alas...we never heard from the developer (Epyx) after this disaster did we? ;)

Actually, I'm pretty sure they went on to make a few more Olympic Style games. They were known specifically for winter games, summer games, World games and California games. What is really disappointing about the NES version of Winter Games is that a lot of the other versions of winter games were actually pretty decent. I'm assuming the company just wasn't used to programming on the Nintendo Entertainment System.

I respect your opinions but I really disagree, first baseball is probably an upper class game for sports titles on NES , John Elways football agree it’s bad but has a lot of memories for me so I don’t bash it as much. Winter games is probably my favorite Olympic title, if you have the manual controls are easy to understand and perform with practice. Magic Johnson’s basketball was Omni play basketball that was ported to NES and rebranded and sadly top end view wasn’t included, it’s a great game though if you know strategies of basketball. 10 yard fight was an incredible fun arcade port. You are probably too young to appreciate it , slow isn’t bad. Your number one NFL game definitely agree

The music for baseball #9 actually goes to Baseball Stars on NES one of the greatest baseball games ever. Even better than most up until the last 7 or 8 years.

I liked Quattro Sports, me and one of my cousins always played Baseball Pros the most, call it a guilty pleasure but the game was fun for us, Soccer Simulator was the other one we played the most also.

I do not know where I got it from but I had an absolutely desperate Asian baseball game for the SNES with no instructions , impossible gameplay & no clue what was happening (well winning & losing was easy to decipher) but game really went nowhere - Fantastic music it had though - same 10 seconds of music over & over again - yikes the memories....I'll leave now sorry about that

NFL on NES was awful. I never knew of the generic Baseball and Soccer games on nes and that kind of shocked me they made this list because Nintendo generally doesn't make bad games, but that Baseball game looked rough. Agree with the rest of this list but I would have added MLB by LJN, that game had the dumbest ball physics I've ever seen in a game.

Until I found this video, I had forgotten about Magic Johnson's game. It was horrible and thankfully had only rented it for a few dollars. The NFL game at the end was one that I had been gifted for birthday or Christmas, but barely remember it and had forgotten about it until seeing your list.

Its something that is really hard for me to do thats why I skipped out on it myself and same with a few other releases this year like psycho pass. I enjoy visual novel games but its hard to fork over 60 bucks for them especially with the limited budget I have to work with.

Everything pre 16 bit and sports was pretty awful. There are a few exceptions but they were really only good for the time and have sequels or better ports during the 16 bit era.

I remember the Wrestlemania one was kinda odd. As kids, my friend and I were playing it, when Saturday Night WWF came on, so we paused to watch the real thing. When we came back and unpaused, the game's stats were all screwed up to the point of nonsense. And those floating power ups... they didn't try very hard, it feels like. Even the CPU just moved around randomly. That said, I'd play NES Baseball over NES Tennis any day.
