Yeah my brother was saying that as well and I was like “no way they’re not putting Bryan in the rumble, Rey will just have to sit this one out” and then the music hits and it was honestly awesome in a morbid way to watch. It’s crazy to me anyone believes they always meant for it to end with that triple threat for the belt or that WWE would even try to claim it. It was so clear they had dropped the ball and honestly have never been able to consistently hold on to it ever since imo.

The fans wanted Daniel Bryan so bad that when Rey entered at #30, the fans basically dumped on not only Rey but everyone else. Batista won this match as a babyface but the fans relentlessly booed him because he wasn't Daniel Bryan. That booking decision dragged that Royal Rumble down so much, but it isn't the worst, the next years was far worse that the fans booed The Rock because Roman Reigns won it.

I still contend that Daniel Bryan not being in the 2014 Royal Rumble is what made Yes-tlemania possible. If he'd been in the Rumble, it would've ruined the storyline.

I half-agree - Bryan should have been in the match but Batista was the right winner; Bryan getting screwed out of the win by the Authority in favor of a heel Batista would have set up the Yes Movement stuff, which fit the story better & made it a better one. But Bryan should have been in the match so as to have it be part of a story, not just Bryan being ignored for a story only the regime wanted.

I remember the Roman Reigns 2017 entry. I was still a big Roman fan and didn't mind his booking all that much. But that moment was sort of like the wake-up call for me and started to see what people were talking about. Roman's booking has been sooo much better lately since 2020. It's honestly incredible how much of a flip it's been.

It’s because people originally liked him because he was the silent badass muscle of The Shield. When they broke up, they gave John Cena’s lines to him. Then they pushed him so much people got sick of him. When they decided to let Roman be Joe, that’s when things fell into place.

He pretends to be Rey with the entrances. He then runs to the ring and hits a 619. It would be amazing

It kind of made sense to have an underwhelming number 30 back in 1992. In those early Royal Rumbles, they hadn't cemented the idea of "surprise entrants". Just as any legitimate sporting event would do, they announced the full roster of participants weeks in advance on WWE Superstars. The only mystery was in the number they drew. So by the time number 30 rolled around, everyone knew in advance who it would be.

I maintain to this day that Reigns coming in at 30 in 2017 was a genius move to make Randy Or ton’s win (which everyone saw coming and no one was enthused about) get a monster pop. Which, as someone who watched it in a room with about 40 people, it did.

The final entry in the 2017 rumble was special to me. I was in a voice chat with over 20 people and we’d all fantasy booked who may be the final man. Then Roman came out and… well, everyone said some combination of several four letter words.

There was a running joke (if you can call it that) during the attitude era where every single number 30 gets in the ring, eliminates exactly only one person and immediately get eliminated. It happened with vader in '98, then chyna, then x-pac, then rikishi, and finally (and by far the funniest of them all) with booker in 2002. As far as I remember, we also knew who number 30 would be on all those cases. It was pretty annoying if you ask me.

Honestly on paper it was smart to have Rey be the surprise #30. WWE knew fans wanted Bryan but they weren't willing to pull the trigger on that just yet and they also knew if fans realized Bryan wasn't in the match they'd completely sh!t all over it. Having one of the most beloved wrestlers of all time make his return as the 30th entrant was a good attempt to lessen the potential blowback but obviously WWE underestimated how serious the "Daniel Bryan or Bust" crowd was

Myself I would say it's truly a toss up between Crush in 95 whi came in number 30 for the shortest rumble match that was won by Shawn Michaels and Randy Savage in the 93 rumble who came out number 30 to face Yokozuna by himself and the match ended with Savage trying to pin Yoko onky to pressed over the top rope to the floor.

The thing about Daniel Bryan in 2014 is that even if he was in it he couldn't win, it would mess up the storyline. The Yes-Movement started with an 18 second squash at WrestleMania 28, so paying that off unintentionally or not needed to end at WrestleMania, but to properly to put Bryan in the Rumble in 2014 would have needed to be to cheated out of winning by the Authority, so it's was better he wasn't in, plus Rey Mysterio had a pre-taped vignette earlier in the Rumble talking about the Rumble. So to just randomly replace Mysterio for no reason, fans would complain about that too. This is why in my opinion it's WWE only announce a hand full of people for the Royal Rumble leaves for more legit surprise reactions.

In case anyone wonders who eliminated Duke the Dumpster Drose in the 1996 Royal Rumble, it was a combined effort by Diesel and Kama. It's ironic because Diesel also eliminate Triple H earlier in the match. I guess in real life, Triple H opted to help build up his Kliq buddy Diesel as a major threat by saying 'You can be the one to eliminate me so you'll look like you could possibly win the Royal Rumble....'.
