Silent treatment tropes bother me, mostly because they’re proven to be psychologically, mentally, emotionally, and even physically manipulative and damaging, not to mention the fact that it does nothing to repair the relationship. (For clarity the silent treatment is different from not talking to an abusive or toxic person or taking a few minutes away from someone who’s angered you before going back and working things out). You’re basically forcing a person to beg for forgiveness and whatever they can do to get back in your favor, even if they don’t know what they did wrong. Shows use this as an effective way to make people apologize shouldn’t, especially to children who may see it and use it instead of talking out their problems. Edit: Two things, one being that i would like to apologize for forgetting to list my source, Psyc2Go’s video “6 Ways the Silent Treatment is Harmful” and second thank you Strider!

I’ve always hated the silent treatment. It speaks volumes of the person using it more than it does the guilty party in question. Communication is key and it is vital to calmly and rationally talk out your issues rather than resort to childish behaviors such as passive aggressiveness. Folks with NPD use this a lot just to gain control over other people emotionally. Best to avoid those kind of people.

Most PBS shows other than Caillou is 99% great for little children and families. I tend to prefer it to Nick Jr and Disney Junior. I just wish Parents can parent instead of letting their kids be unsupervised on KZbin “kids” videos. I know that most adults probably aren’t into these shows mostly targeted to young kids. The sad part is, with a few minor changes, "Caillou Goes to the Circus" would be an acceptable episode: For starters, instead of Caillou simply getting the day wrong, have the circus be cancelled altogether, so the audience has a _real_ reason to sympathize with him. Secondly, instead of bawling and throwing a fit, have Caillou be depressed and/or bored for about half the day so the audience would find him more relatable and will sympathize with him more, before getting into the main "circus at home" part of the episode. Please reply if you think the episode needs any more changes.

I suppose the "I Forgot to Laugh" episode of Arthur was meant to show how an innocent joke can be taken too far. I'm assume the coat was supposed to be fuzzy, like a sheep dog, & that Arthur didn't realize he was being a bully because everyone laughed at first. The silent treatment bit was probably meant to show kids' that they'd loose all their friends if they played cruel jokes. There's a few things that always pissed me off about Arthur's Big Hit as a kid. 1. Arthur got punished for hitting DW twice in the episode. Once from his parents, & then the second time from Binky punching him. It comes off as if the show thinks he deserved to get punched because he hit his sister. 2. His parents try to lecture him about how he should feel empathetic towards DW because now he knows what it's like to get punched. Even though he didn't do anything wrong or valid for Binky to hit him. 3. DW comes off as insanely bratty & unlikeable in this episode. The way she downplays her breaking Arthur's plane is just beyond despicable & stupid (even for DW). If they had written her as much more sympathetic in the episode like maybe she dropped the plane by accident & apologized immediately to Arthur, then it would've come off as much more likable. Instead she just tries to justify she didn't do anything wrong & then blames Arthur for not making it fly. Seriously, that would piss me off too. 4. Not showing DW get punished for breaking the plane was bullshit too. All they literally had to do was show Arthur saying DW broke his plane, her parents questioning if this was true & then getting upset at her for doing it. It wasn't that hard at all, but nope, the show decides to go the "I don't care what happened, hitting is always wrong" route.

The kind of person who would do that would not be someone you could just make up with at the end of the episode. You have to be malicious to keep harassing someone like that. Also, as an autistic person, not being explicitly told what someone is doing wrong is one of the worst social habits I keep seeing. It’s caused me so much trouble, and there’s no logic to it. If a person isn’t getting something, continuing to give them subtle hints just because you think they should get it doesn’t mean they will get it.

The reason people hate Edward Strikes Out so much is because Edward is completely out of character. Gordon being rude is fine since it's part of his character, but Edward is a kind, wise, old engine. Seeing him act like James is baffling and a spit in the face to his character. Henry would've be a much better choice instead of Edward since he's a bit aggorant himself.

Well, Barney may be a little too sweet and slightly sugar coated but if you have seen more episodes than me (some Barney haters only watch one episode and automatically say it sucks) you would know that when he talks to the audience, he doesn’t treat them like idiots. @@LardManAnimation funnily enough, Barney stopped my younger siblings from bullying me several years ago. My dad liked this show called Rodger Ramjet and my siblings watched it so much I hated it. So, instead of listening to me and watching it a little less, they'd sing the theme song day in, day out. It went on for a whole school term... until one morning, I got up earlier than I'd meant to so I could taped a show on channel 9. As I turned on the TV, I realized I had to wait through Barney before my show would even start. Instead of going back to bed, I decided to just watch it... but, the moment the theme song started playing, a lightbulb went on in my head. The tune was EXACTLY the same as Rodger Ramjet. Now, at the time, my siblings HATED Barney. They were in that "ew. I'm too big for kids shows like that anymore" phase. So, I recorded the theme song and took every chance I could that weekend to watch it over and over until I had it memorized. 2 days later, on the car ride home from school, they started singing Rodger Ramjet's theme song. I waited for the second verse, then, with the biggest shit eating grin on my face, started singing the next verse of Barney's song judging from the tune. They stopped, looking confused, before they became HORRIFIED. They never sang the song ever again and ALWAYS fast forwards through it whenever they watched the show.

I remember seeing "Arthur's Big Hit" as a kid and, yeah, I just felt sorry for Arthur the whole time. Like, I get the moral they meant to convey and I don't condone resorting to violence unless necessary for self-defense, but they went so over the top making DW an unapologetic little brat that I seriously can't blame Arthur for losing it. And then instead of the whole story being taken into consideration and both kids getting reprimanded/punished accordingly, everyone completely invalidates Arthur's side and acts like he just went over and punched DW for no reason. And _then_ when Binky actually _does_ go and punch Arthur for basically no reason, his parents are all like "Well, that's what you get. Now that you know how it feels, go apologize to your sister." Umm, what now??? So when Arthur hits DW, he's in the wrong and gets punished, but when Binky hits Arthur, it's acceptable because justice? Aaaand to top it off, if memory serves, there's never any mention of Binky being punished; he just feels bad and apologizes his own. The writers go out of their way to emphasize that punching your sibling when they harass the crap out of you and break your stuff is wrong, but not that giving in to peer pressure and punching someone who's minding their own business might also be -- at the _very_ least -- equally bad?

I think what would've helped the moral is DW becoming scared of Author after he hits her, it's realistic, and maybe he realizes how it's affected her and starts to feel bad, also it makes sense, DW is a pretty sheltered spoiled kid, so the idea of someone straight up punching her for her actions would mess with her world view
@genericname27474 жыл бұрын
Yeah, if we saw DW actually upset, kids would get why hitting is wrong. Like, show the punch, and show DW completely freak out, since her older brother just punched her, and she is a tiny child. I get it. I remember another episode where DW was playing her favorite song so much it drove Arthur up the wall! Then he later gets punished for threatening to destroy her CD if she didn't knock it off! (He was trying to do his homework!" When the CD disappeared she accused him of stealing it! The rest of the episode has her ransaking his room looking for it! Arthur never took it. Their parents accidentally took it with them to the party. Even when DW discovered Arthur was innocent she never apologized to him for accusing him and messing up his room! The parents never even scold her for doing those things!
@mondenkindqueen4 жыл бұрын
@@melissacooper4282 Now that you mention it, it seems like the parents NEVER scold DW for making Arthur’s life miserable. They only scold her when she does something to THEM. I remember an episode where DW was a picky eater, and you know what? Ok. Kids can be picky eaters at that stage in life. But the parents only scold her and try to correct her behavior after she embarrassed them in public. The unfair treatment they display between their two older kids really comes into affect when in “DWs Beastly Birthday,” they literally make Arthur give “pony rides” to a bunch of little kids, despite him telling his mom it’s hurting his back. Not to mention that they are HITTING him with a stick. “It’s just one day.” Argh.

I actually watched So Funny I Forgot to Laught a few weeks back and yeah... I don't think I've ever seen someone so out of character. Arthur wasn't even flanderized, his behavior is in NO connection to his character in any way shape or form. This could have worked with Muffy or Binky but Arthur of all characters?? And you wanna know what could have erased a lot of the problems of Arthur's Big Hit? At the scene of Arthur hitting her, instead of DW bitching about how Arthur built the plane wrong, instead have her genuinely apologize for breaking it. And THEN have Arthur hit her anyways. That would put Arthur in the wrong and justify his punishment. Even if you kept the rest of the episode exactly the same, this one change could have drastically changed the scope of the episode. Instead, I felt no sympathy for DW at all and I honestly think Arthur was completely justified in hitting her. I'm a 19 year old man and I'd probably clock her myself

All she cared about was her lunch with that weather man she fawns over throughout the episode, she didn’t even seem to care that she was getting her friends into trouble. And at the end of the episode, when Francine and Muffy both confess to their crimes, Muffy gets rewarded by going with Brain to eat on the lunch with the weatherman while Francine has to stay behind and do community service. 🤦♂️

I have the utmost respect for Fred Rogers. What was really cool was discovering that someone I knew actually met him. She had wondered for decades how her father came to know him. I'm very grateful to have solved that mystery for her. There's a long list of ways that Mr. Rogers changed the world for the better. Thank you so much for what you said about Teletubbies. When I was 13, I was shocked to learn that some of my classmates actually watched it. I watched one episode. It left me traumatized. For awhile I watched Cailou. Then one episode made me realize how lousy the parents are. The episode was when the parents held a late night dinner. For some reason they thought a 4 year old could sleep with a bunch of noise. I'm surprised that the 2 year old slept. Here's a better way to have held this party. Realize that a 4 year old is not prepared for dealing with a noisy party after bedtime. Have him sleep at a friend's or relative's house that night. Then all of the guests have toddlers. How many babysitters are in this neighborhood? They already think of the grandparents as free babysitters. Maybe a few times a year would be fine, but this is so common that the kids have their own rooms. These people already did the job of parenting. Stop trying to make them raise your own. I know child care is expensive, but this particular family isn't needing for anything.

Strider, Michael's narration on Thomas sounded bored and absolutely dead since around Season 7. Not being mean, just saying it wasn't JUST for Edward Strikes Out.
@matthewskidmore23974 жыл бұрын
I think it began when Hit Entertainment bought the rights of the show from Britt Allcroft after she resigned in the wake of Thomas and the Magic Railroad's failure. They essentially dumbed down the show and I think Angelis's narration from that point onwards shows the lack of enthusiam he had from that point, yet he kept going until series 16, though ex-James Bond Pierce Brosnan narrated a special episode during that time.

@@matthewskidmore2397 Yeah, pretty much. He was really enthusiastic in Season 6, I wonder if he knew the show was "losing steam" by reading the 7th Season scripts, or if it was an issue related to his age. I doubt that it was the latter, since there was only a 1 year gap between Seasons 6 and 7.

The worst part about "So Funny I Forgot to Laugh" is Sue Ellen. She is tough and assertive. Literally one of the first episodes of the show is about her not standing up to Binky's bullying. Yet in this episode she is a pushover and actually attempts to SWITCH CLASSES because of how mean Arthur is being. Arthur and Sue Ellen are amazing friends, and it makes no sense that she would feel that bad about the joke. If this was realistic, Sue Ellen would've tried to resolve it with Arthur more. She had that one confrontation after the locker incident, but from that point onward, she only talked to Mr. Ratburn. And of course, Arthur was insufferable in this episode as well.
