one could argue that okada's first title reign should be on here, as before he was the rainmaker, no one really cared about okada, and even after his excursion, he came back to little fanfare, so when an arrogant, smarmy heel okada beat the hero of njpw tanahashi for the belt, it was a massive shock to everyone. thankfully everyone came to accept him and he has become one of the biggest legends in japanese wrestling history, as well as already being one of the all-time great in-ring performers
@jeffreysharp99254 жыл бұрын
Just because the result was surprising to fans does not mean it was not supposed to happen. NJPW planned to have Okada win there. The fanbase might not have been ready yet, but Gedo had that planned. A better example may be Jay White. He would not have become IWGP champion if Omega did not leave the company to join AEW. As a matter of fact, the Tanahashi run in 2019 from Wrestle Kingdom was also a surprise due to Omega leaving.
@MorbidFayde4 жыл бұрын
@@jeffreysharp9925 who do you reckon would've won that g1 if kenny was sticking around?
@jeffreysharp99254 жыл бұрын
@@MorbidFayde I would lean toward Ibushi. At the time, there was concern he was going to AEW as well. The Golden Lovers explode was a storyline in progress. Omega would have retained. Since Ibushi was a flight risk and Omega was gone, Tanahashi won the G1 and the title. He transitioned it to White after. The original plan, in my opinion, was Omega holding the title until MSG and losing it back to Okada. That would have been much longer than most recent first time IWGP championship reigns. Also, I am of the opinion that Evil was an unplanned reign due to wanting to reset Naito's run after the shutdown NJPW went through. This is not to say that White and Evil were never going to become IWGP champions. The timing was changed for both.

@jeffreysharp99254 жыл бұрын
@@MorbidFayde sorry to tell you, but Ishii and Suzuki will probably never win it. NJPW is selective about who gets the big belt. Guys who haven't won it yet that will at some point are Ibushi, Sanada, Ospreay, and possibly Sabre and Kenta. I personally would like Goto to get one to make up for his "always a bridesmaid" reputation. He has been a high performer in G1 and New Japan cup but can't win the big one. It always seemed like NJPW had a storyline that would get in the way of him getting the belt.

People can say what they want to me, but in my opinion the best wrestling I've seen in years on WWE was the Gauntlet match the New Day had for Kofi to be able to go to WrestleMania. And haven't seen anything as good since...

I hate that WWE won’t use existing nicknames and branding when they bring in Indy talent (with a few exceptions like AJ Styles) They should have been referring to Daniel Bryan as “The American Dragon” and building his character around it IMO.

Back in the day the championship meant something. (It was a title). Today winning the championship is like winning an Academy Award

Wait...So why did ECW go through so many steps? Why not have Dreamer take it from Awesome, Credible take it from Taz, just say screw it all and have Credible take it from Awesome to begin with? I'm sure there's some backstage stuff going on there, but seems like they took a whole lot of extra steps for Dreamer just to lose it from Credible the same night he won it

I don't know why Kofi and Kurt were on this list since they're title reigns were well deserved. But here's a question , WHY THE HELL are Miz and Jinder Mahal NOT on this list?
