one could argue that okada's first title reign should be on here, as before he was the rainmaker, no one really cared about okada, and even after his excursion, he came back to little fanfare, so when an arrogant, smarmy heel okada beat the hero of njpw tanahashi for the belt, it was a massive shock to everyone. thankfully everyone came to accept him and he has become one of the biggest legends in japanese wrestling history, as well as already being one of the all-time great in-ring performers
@jeffreysharp99253 жыл бұрын
Just because the result was surprising to fans does not mean it was not supposed to happen. NJPW planned to have Okada win there. The fanbase might not have been ready yet, but Gedo had that planned. A better example may be Jay White. He would not have become IWGP champion if Omega did not leave the company to join AEW. As a matter of fact, the Tanahashi run in 2019 from Wrestle Kingdom was also a surprise due to Omega leaving.

@@MorbidFayde I would lean toward Ibushi. At the time, there was concern he was going to AEW as well. The Golden Lovers explode was a storyline in progress. Omega would have retained. Since Ibushi was a flight risk and Omega was gone, Tanahashi won the G1 and the title. He transitioned it to White after. The original plan, in my opinion, was Omega holding the title until MSG and losing it back to Okada. That would have been much longer than most recent first time IWGP championship reigns. Also, I am of the opinion that Evil was an unplanned reign due to wanting to reset Naito's run after the shutdown NJPW went through. This is not to say that White and Evil were never going to become IWGP champions. The timing was changed for both.

I personally would like Goto to get one to make up for his "always a bridesmaid" reputation. He has been a high performer in G1 and New Japan cup but can't win the big one. It always seemed like NJPW had a storyline that would get in the way of him getting the belt.

10 homies that were never supposed to be homies..... Homie. Can't really say anyone isn't supposed to be a champion. People get signed with no intention of being a champion at the time of signing, then they get over so big that it changes everything. If you think about it, only a few people were signed to be a champion from the start. Stone cold wasn't, the Rock wasn't, the Undertaker wasn't, HBK wasn't, Brett Hart wasn't, AJ Styles wasn't, etc. It wasn't until they became larger than life that the plans changed and they were to become champion. Also depending on the organization. 1 person could be signed with the intent of being a champion in 1 promotion, while being signed in another with no intention only to eventually become the champ. This list is dumb. No one knows who will blow up after they are signed. Not everyone is brought in like Hogan to where he's told he will be the champ before he even signed.... Was he signed to be a champ before wwf...... Nope. So as I stated. No one knows. Just trying to get clicks cause they're out of ideas. Well all ideas other then being dumb. Next videos: -10 wrestlers that were not signed when they were already married. -10 wrestlers who didn't take a shit in Jerry Lawler's crown. -10 wrestlers who tie their shoes differently than you do. -10 wrestlers that once took 4 back bumps in the ring. -10 wrestlers that tag teamed with someone they weren't in a stable with. -10 wrestlers that jumped hopscotch when they were 5 years old. -100,000 wrestlers that have been chokeslammed by anyone, anywhere, at any time.

Wait...So why did ECW go through so many steps? Why not have Dreamer take it from Awesome, Credible take it from Taz, just say screw it all and have Credible take it from Awesome to begin with? I'm sure there's some backstage stuff going on there, but seems like they took a whole lot of extra steps for Dreamer just to lose it from Credible the same night he won it

Umm how about Jeff Hardy,Matt Hardy,Rey Mysterio jr,the great Khali, I could go on these wrestlers I don't care how popular they were or weren't they shouldn't have been world champion period making them champion made the belts lose prestige making light weight guys world champion is like giving the world title to Hornswoggle just like when they gave him the cruiserweight title smh.

I don’t understand why Dreamer was so upset. I get that his story was “the guy who could never quite get it done”, but it has to have a pay off right? Sounds like the perfect “he finally did it” pay off. Like the end of a Rocky movie lol

WrestleMania 30 was gonna be Lesnar vs Orton vs Batista but Batista got Booed and they Needed a Big Babyface for the fans to get behind. So they scrapped Lesnar for Bryan, Then Vince Punished the Fans by Ending The Streak.

Description of the video is misleading.. it gives impression that 10 wrestlers who shouldn't have been world champions but it is more of the 10 occasions on which title shouldn't have changed hands..
