Regarding the "attractive police officers": When applying to be a police officer you have to fullfill strict health and fitness regulations and pass several physical tests in order to be accepted. This naturally favors athletic people. Also young officers usually start their career patrolling the streets. Edit: Officers usually operate in mixed pairs regarding their gender. So if for example a suspect has to be searched it can be done by an officer of the same gender in order to avoid harassment.

08:00 An IBAN isn't that much of a secret because you can't do much with it. You can send money to the account and companies can make withdrawels from the account (this is called Lastschriftverfahren), but in case the withdrawel by Lastschrift wasn't OK, the account holder can get the money back very fast and easily, often with a simple click using the online banking interface.
@hitn-gaming4 жыл бұрын
To be more precise: You have to give a company the permission to withdraw money from your bank account via Lastschriftverfahren. So there is not really a way to abuse those information as long as you don't fill out the permission or click on a link.

I'm not 100% sure how it works in the US. However, I'm often surprised how easy it seems to be in the US for relatives (especially parents) to open credit cards in the name of their minor children (1). Or later of their adult children, access their bank statements, access their accounts (2). Or that it's not easy to get parents off your account when the minor becomes an adult (3) 1. It's forbidden by law in Germany to do any financial business in the name of a minor/the minor as the beneficiary party if the financial product is not gilt-edged ("mündelsicher" in German, literally "ward-proved/secured"). You cannot use a child's name for speculative investments or any form of account that might generate a loss - like a non-prepaid credit card. 2. Opening mail that's not for you is a crime in general but no bank in Germany would buy any "poor sweet little old mom" act and allow someone who is not the account holder or someone with a bank mandate granted, defined, and signed by the account holder. If the bank allows anyone access to information or money (you aren't even allowed to say, "Yes, Mr. Smith is our client but we can't grant you access." The correct reply is, "I'm sorry, I'm not authorized to share any sensitive information with you," neither admitting nor denying if Mr. Smith is a client or not. Otherwise, it can get the bank in legal trouble and the clerk can be fired on the spot over an offence like this). It's always the bank's responsibility to a) fully inform their clients of everything and b) identify a client as the authorized account holder/the one with the mandate. The bank has to check if the other person on the account is allowed to perform a certain action (for example, I could give my friend permission to do everything sans terminating the account, but restrict my mom to only get bank statements or withdraw a maximum of X Euro.). So, the bank clerk has to ask for an acceptable paper of identity and compare signatures. So, if I took the IBAN from a business letter I got and tried to execute a withdrawal or transfer from them to me, I'd a) commit identity fraud and b) if I succeeded, it'd be the bank's responsibility for not catching my forged signature (obviously, without access to someone's online banking, PIN, TANs etc, there's not much that can be done online) and they'd have to reimburse their client. So, unless you're careless or an idiot (like, PIN written on the EC or credit card), it's pretty safe. 3. This is so fascinating to me. By the time you turn 18 here, your bank sends you an email and tells you that now you're the only account holder (as a minor, your legal guardians are always shared account holders) and if you want your parents back on the list, you have to talk to the bank, get the necessary documents, and everyone involved has to sign them. If a parent tries to get access without these steps done, sharing any information or allowing them to withdraw money is illegal and the bank is held responsible, too. If a parent forges the signatures, well, that's fraud. And back to 2), "but I'm Jane's mooom/daaaad! I've always been responsible for the account!" isn't gonna work. Ignoring the law because aw, poor Mrs. Smith, she's always so charming and brings cookies in December (which clerks aren't allowed to accept but hey!) is guaranteed to cost a clerk their job. Bonus info that's not directly related but many don't know this: Bank products don't expire after closing. If you sit in your bank and someone there convinced you to sign a contract, you're absolutely in your rights to say, "I'll take the documents home and read through them carefully. Let's make a follow-up appointment next Tuesday." (the latter isn't even necessary, but it'd be nice, even if it's just to discuss the contract and finally deciding not to do it). Also, if taking a loan, ask if you can make special payments in addition to the payment plan or even pay it off early without any additional fees. I think this has to be granted in general these days but when I still worked in that cutthroat business, you had to check off a tiny box within the small print for that, otherwise, the bank could demand additional fees if you came into a little money and wanted to settle the loan early. And of course, we were instructed to not mention it unless the client asked. (sorry for the tangent but I always kinda feel bad for not mentioning these things during a conversation about our bank system and laws.)

The lower drinking age just puts the heavy drinking time just into your teens. You have your first alcohol experience usually around 14, when you have your confirmation in church, your parents will have a look on it and its fine. When we were around 16, heavy drinking was a big thing and not few spend a night into hospital. On the other hand this means in your twentys you know how your body reacts to alcohol and you "know your limit" (famous tv spot in Germany). I should add that there a diffference between the countryside which drinks more and earlier and the citys and that nowadays people under 18 drink much less than 10 years before. For a german its really hard to understand how in the usa beer is forbidden until you are 21, but driving a car and owning a gun is legal with 18 and younger.

In Germany, the top priority of the police is to find non-violent solutions in conflict situations, which is why deescalation training is given more weight than shooting training with firearms. And to look good is the best precondition for de-escalation ;-) And peeing in public is generally not allowed and is prosecuted as an offense ... But if you do it discretely, the principle applies: "No prosecutor, no judge". You sometimes hear from the US media, when someone is treated as a sex offender for peeing in public. And here, in my opinion, people in Germany are already consciously aware of whether someone only relieves themselves in the absence of a toilet* or really commits a sexually motivated crime like Exibitionism. There is the German word "Notdurft", which means: "before you have to pee in your pants, it's ok to pee on a tree if done discreetly" ;-)

When you drive a car (the heavier artillery, so to speak), you're supposed to be careful when coming close to cyclists. Of course when you ride a bike you´re supposed to look for cars too but most of them just trust the car drivers (which is a bit stupid if you ask me :D)

Well in regards to the drinking age I must say ist starts quite early. In my teens I joined the local Festival youth (Called Kirmesjugend) in my village at the age of 14, earliest age possible to join and mens only club. That is where I learned to drink. All in all we where around 30/40 teens and twens from 14 to 29 thats the age where most of the older guys left the club more or less. Our Job was to put up the festival tent and we hired one of the bands with the money from the work on the Festival tent and sold the tickets which we reinvested all in booze durimg our 4 days village festival and got wasted. Thats how we learned to drink you where able to get wasted but the older guys slapped you really hard when you didn‘t get your shit together and misbehaved badly that you did it only once. So the older guys looked a bit after the younger ones in rough way.

About the drinking age: I started drinking around that age, 16 or 17..... had experiences I needed to make to determine my limit. I drank a lot as a teenager, fell on my face a few times, as an early tween I knew what i can and cannot do and when I needed to stop. Today in my early 30s I hardly ever drink. And if I do, it's just a Radler with the husband or with friends... or a shot after dinner here and there (this is obligatory... my husband is Russian... lol). The younger drinking age is definitely a better solution than in the US, not because you can simply start drinking with an age of 16 but because of the fact that you're still underaged. This might sound confusing at first but think about it this way. If you're still underaged, you're legally not allowed to go overboard with the kind of alcohol you drink and if something goes really wrong, you will make your parents legally responsible for you. That implies (at least it does to me) that you don't want to make your parents responsible for something you could mess up, you can't get the really strong stuff on your own, and you have whole two years to learn all of that. When you turn 18 you'll get another responsibility hammer here in Germany. All of the sudden you're responsible for a lot of things. Long story short, I think it's a better approach to teach these kind of responsibility things.

public urination isnt allowed, especially in Cities. It does happen and even more on bigger festivals, but if they catch you, you will pay a fine. Its nothing that will get you into jail (if you not doing it regularly or actively urinating against police cars for example) but we dont like it. Most times, the culprits are people who drank more Beer than they could handle. Edit: Its not clearly visible on that Photo but i can imagine an Reason for that: Eventually, its a drainage in case of heavy Rain. Its an underpass for the Bridge, right? I can see the Bridge-Shadow. If its a region with risk of really heavy Rain or Flood because of a nearby River, these underpasses can be a trap for Cars really fast. Cant find informations on this construction right now, but maybe a local Politician decided to install that, to always keep that underpass working. Probably there are Signs to drive slowly or warn Cars/Bikes.

"Mettbrötchen" There are good ones (maybe with fresh onions and some spicy ingredients) and there a bad ones (pour meat or very fatty meet with a bad textures). It just like a uncooked hamburger patty on a small bread :-). If it's fresh it's more healthy than a hamburger made in a lot of additional hot fat. The meat called "Mett" needs a strong supervision. There is a sort of law called "Hackfleischverordnung" all buttchers must follow, cause Mett (or so called Hackfleisch) must be fesh made and must stay cool. BTW: Not all german like to eat Mett - ist something for the "Paleos" of us :-) And very important; Mett is made from pork meat. Made from cows it is called "tartar" :-) :-) :-) Ok... this is very germanisch..... especially those things like a Mett-Igel (Mett-Hedgehog). Those "Igels" where very popular in the 60/70 on parties. A big ball of Mett with Salzstangel shaped like a Hedgehog And: You know Bratwurst? sure! Mett is the simply the dough of a Bratwurst. And if you in "need" of a Mettbrötchen, you can buy a "frische grobe Bratwurst" and use it as Mett. Oh, yes, my father was a butcher. So Mett was often on the table. Maybe I should call myself a "Mett Evangelist?" SCNR....

on Nr. 2; the thing is, here in germany, there is this kind of order "pedestrians > cyclist > biker > car driver > truck driver". in driving school they teach you, to always be careful. because of that, some people (e.g. cyclist) dont watch out for cars, because car drivers have to watch out for them. there is even a kind of driving school for bicycles. some schools (elementary) do that and you recieve this so called "fahrradführerschein" (bike driving licence), which is not mandatory, but a great thing tho. great videos man. love you hear your opion on germany

Do you know the "Maibaum" tradition in NRW? Young men tend to catch small trees in forests in the middle of the night (last day of april) and then transport the small trees with their bikes to their favourite women. So the idea is to express love to a woman by putting a decorated small tree "Maibaum" next to the window or door of the respective woman. Most of the time, people drink beers while doing these crazy missions which easily can take until sunrise depending on how many women need to be taken care of (5 trees from 5 guys for 5 women). I guess you know the expression of "Wegbier".

I stopped your video when you talked about the drinking age, because I think Germany is doing something right: You may drink beer or wine at the age of 16, but won't get a drivers license for a car before you're 18. That sort of makes sense to me, because by then, you should be familiar with the effects of alcohol. The allowed alcohol level for drivers currently is 0.3 per mille, that's the equivalent of one bottle of beer. It used to be 0.8, that was three bottles, but as cars went faster, the Government (yes, with a capital G) decided that instead of imposing a speed limit, people should drink less. Public peeing: It can be fined. Certainly when there's no one watching, it's alright, but don't ever try to do it on festivals, like, say, the Oktoberfest. I paid 20 Deutsche Mark when this currency was still in place; meanwhile, I guess it's 80 Euros or so. So for dumping off a liter of water, you can buy half a brewery. But I stick to the 11th commandment: Thou shalt not get caught.
@KrautsalatAnAmericaninGermany4 жыл бұрын
That is a great point. I got used to drinking after I was driving....so, now, i agree that this way is better. I also think the punishment here in germany is much more severe so it is taken more seriously. But..... you said you stopped, did you finish watching?!

@@KrautsalatAnAmericaninGermany As an added sidenote: After you got your driver's licence, you can't have any alcohol in your blood stream for another 2 years while driving a car ("Probezeit"). Another comment about that photo in 10:43. This has nothing to do with traffic regulation but is a rather unique (rare) solution to flooding problems of this particular spot. As it seems this is in the bottom of a slight valley and obviously they had long time issues getting rid of rain runoffs, wherefore they lowered the drain spot in the middle of the road. Usually a simple drain would do the trick but propably in this case a lot of heavy cars/trucks/busses pass by and the resulting lane grooves would hesitate a proper draining. They reinforced the lane and build a "super bottom drain" in the very middle ;)
