Tony Atlas has lived in my hometown of Auburn, Maine since the mid-late 1980s. He has been homeless, as well as lived at the YMCA too. The park where was found sleeping under the park bench was Kennedy Park in Lewiston, which is across the Androscoggin River from Auburn. I have met him several times. He's a nice guy. One of my friends who was into weight lifting in high school in the late 1980s used to get lifting advice from him at the Y, where both of them used to lift..

Honestly, wrestlers being broke and having severe health issues is the norm not the exception. This is really sad to acknowledge. Seeing former giants in their 60th still wrestle is somewhat bittersweet. On the other hand, getting older than 42 also seems to be quite an accomplishment for many wrestlers. I still admire them for what they gave in the 80th and 90th but feel sorry for them that they still have to wrestle to make ends meet, not because they want to. Without the juice and their clearly visible health issues it seems like a deathmatch in an retirement home. Good luck to my childhood heros!
@voiceofreason1208 Жыл бұрын
Drug and alcohol issues aside I think a giant portion of wrestlers money issues would be solved if they didn't have to go out and get their own health insurance. To the average person, professional wrestling may be a scripted performance, but insurance companies don't view it that way and I'm quite certain that these wrestlers have to pay exorbitant premiums. If the promotions, which make millions off of this talent, would pony up the dough or at least a good portion of it, I think many wrestlers would have more money coming out at the end of their careers
@KevinSorbo.11 ай бұрын
There are many stories from way back in the 70s and 80s about top wrestlers and their Loyd's of London insurance policies. They definitely would have costed a lot...

The best example is the Marty/Austin injury in this video. These wrestlers aren't employees, but are treated as such. Vince managed to shift half the liability onto Marty which is insane IMHO. @zerocool1ist You'd be surprised to learn just HOW MANY famous and wealthy celebs never bother to get health insurance, even though they can well afford to. A recent example is Denny Laine. Laine had ZERO health insurance, even though he was wealthy and lived in a posh, high rise condo complex in Florida...complete with stunning ocean views. Laine-like Scott Hall-could have easily paid for health insurance, but never bothered to. After Laine's recent health crisis and prolonged hospital stay and treatment, he and his wife (now widow) conned his fans into believing that Laine was financially unable to pay his medical bills. Like Scott Hall, they started a GoFundMe account and conned his fans into paying them many thousands of dollars, then Laine died soon afterward.

Scott Hall was clean and sober until covid. Trapped in isolation by himself did him in. He began drinking and a while drunk fell down and hurt his leg and couldn't get up. DDP couldn't get a hold of him and decided to break covid isolation and discovered him dead. Because he wasn't able to get up he couldn't get to a phone and just died slowly.

I liked Hall, but he could have easily just ignored "isolation". Most of the rest of this state did. That nonsense lasted like a week. People here were out and about living their lives very quickly. Downtown Atlanta was a ghost town like...once. The next week when I had to go back it was the normal hellhole it always is.

@melissasmith195 Actually, Scott resumed his drinking and substance abuse shortly after moving out of DDP's home. Scott was supposed to share a home with his son, but his son moved out, leaving Scott once again on his own. After drinking to excess, Scott fell down drunk and by that time he needed yet ANOTHER hip replacement surgery. Between his inebriation and damaged hip, Scott wasn't able to get back on his feet, much less get to the phone. When DDP was unable to get Scott to answer his calls, DDP broke covid isolation and went to Scott's home. DDP broke into Scott's home, where he found Scott on his kitchen floor but very much ALIVE & COGNIZANT. DDP got Scott into a nearby hospital where Scott was lucid and verbal until he suffered a series of strokes, after which he fell into a coma and was placed on life support. To everyone's surprise, after Scott's son arrived at the hospital, his son made the immediate decision to REMOVE Scott from life support, even though Scott had only been on it for a very short period of time and his prognosis was good. After removing him from life support, Scott CONTINUED breathing on his own, but the series of strokes had caused sufficient damage to the point where he eventually stopped breathing altogether and Scott was allowed to die.

Did you say it is harder to get a job with WWE or AEW than becoming a successful actor/actress? Laughable. Have you seen the ridiculous 'talent' they've hired over the years? You're simply wrong on that matter.. becoming a truly successful actor is incredibly hard and unlikely in a ridiculously competitive environment.
@hia5235 Жыл бұрын
Numbers wise youre wrong. There are hundreds of successful actors in Hollywood alone. How many wrestlers get TV air time? 20? 30 between 2 companies?
@bostonrailfan2427 Жыл бұрын
@@hia5235bullcrap. the easiest way into that company is to be friends with someone in it: no talent or experience needed, just friendship

you need only know one of the people in power at AEW to get a job, they give them out constantly to untrained and undertrained people

Of course he didn't pay the family. They should ban any Superfly stuff on wwe programming too.
