Was as all home fires are horrible. :( It really is truly amazing how fast you recovered from that and I wish you nothing but the best, with clear horizons at the end of every day. Cheers to the next 10 years, and my best to you and your family. 🥂

That's one of my biggest fears is having a fire start when I'm not home or asleep, but thankfully laws in California for new builds require every home to have a fire suppression system, I know if there ever is a fire everything I own will be covered in a red fire retardant but I'm sure I'll have a home to still call a home.

I got hit by a car in 2001 while riding my bicycle. I was on my way to class at a college. I was riding in a crosswalk. The lady who hit me either didn’t see me or got impatient. She was very apologetic. She gave me and my mangled bike a ride to class. I was left with just a sprained ankle. The kicker: this was the Thursday before 9/11. What I endured was nothing compared to what happened 5 days later. I pray that you have recovered or are recovering from your ordeal.

Hey Austin! I am a recent graduate in computer science that used to (and still) watch your videos all the way back in middle school. Its funny to think that I would still be watching you 10 years and more after I found you. I want to thank you for all the time you put into your videos, believe it or not my house burned down the same year that yours did and although I was 13 or so , it is crazy to look back and see that I saw the same situation in you. OFC, I was not an actual adult and worrying about things in that way, but it was reassuring to see people like you go through the same things that I was, that it was a thing a happened to people and they could survive with it. With all that said, thanks, watching you, LTT, MB, JayzTwoCents, all of you guys are part of a generation of youtube that I genuinely am thankful for

Dear Austin, I've been a dedicated follower of your channel since the early days, around 2007 or 2009-it's been so long that the years blend together. I vividly recall the heartbreak of your apartment fire; I even shared that moment with my wife, and since then, we've both found joy in your content. I still chuckle thinking about "Austin not Duncan" and can't help but admire the undeniable passion you've always had for video production and being a presence on camera. Your enthusiasm was infectious, even when it came to topics like browser tests, which piqued my interest despite my loyalty to Chrome at the time. Your knack for computer builds captured my attention, even though I wasn't into building them myself. There's just something about the "Austin Evans touch" that made those videos extraordinary. But what really resonated with me was your descriptive narration. As someone with very limited sight, your detailed explanations were the magic ingredient that made your videos accessible and enjoyable. They were never too long, always hitting that sweet spot of content and duration. I've watched your journey unfold from a solo viewer to sharing it with my wife since 2010, and now, our five kids might just grow up to be fans as well. It feels like just yesterday when Ken joined the team, yet another testament to how time flies when you're engaged with such great content. Keep up the excellent work, Austin. Know that you have a family of viewers up here in Alberta, Canada, who are always eager for your next video. With much appreciation, J. R. Bjornson

I really enjoy these kind of introspective videos we’re getting here and elsewhere. I think it really helps to take the sting out of the changes we’re experiencing and helps put things in perspective. Like they say “when one door closes, another opens.” We’re heading down a slightly different path now. There will be some positives and some negatives. We’re all in it together experiencing the changes together hoping they bring more positives than negatives. Edit: wow I commented before the video was halfway over. I only started watching your channel recently. Maybe in the last few months. Your story is pretty wild. It’s crazy to think back at the breaks we’ve had in life. Good and bad. I'm just glad I got to watch all of you OG KZbin tech reviewers since the early days. Thank you for this video, keep up the great work!

Such a good video man, I love looking back at the community and seeing everyone's support but also how far ya'll have come. I miss the days when the heavy hitters in tech got together for collabs. I remember the day the fire video came out so it's crazy to look back.

Normally I never post comments and if I do it’s extremely rare; however, I feel this is the one exception. I think I’ve been subbed to the channel for about 5 or 6 years now and it was your videos that helped me build a pc. It was your videos that made me more excited about things. When I saw new leaks of certain stuff, my mind always went “I wonder if Austin will cover this?” Then a few hours or days later, boom, video comes out of exactly what I thought on this channel or This is. I will also say, watching the channel also helped me out of a bad spot. Thanks for being here on KZbin. That’s all I wanted to say. Though I do miss the “Hey guys this is Austin.” I sure do hope you’ll bring that back once a year. It’s something I’m always looking forward to. Thanks again for helping a guy out and being here.

I've been watching you for so long Austin, even before the fire, I was with you already. I'm so happy I'm still here, thank you for the content forever. I wanted to be like you! Life had different plans, I think! The early KZbin days were so fun, I wanted to be like you guys. Idk, I'm 24 now, so hopefully things still work out for me. Regardless, I'll be here til the end!

Subscribed to your channel almost 4 months ago and thourghly every upload you've had done. I've retired in October 2022, thinking I'm going to be very happy and stressed free on future planning of my life. My depression is bad and mentally I'm not happy, but I keep going forward because of friends and family and my beautiful loving wife of almost 21yrs of marriage. Seeing this video on what you went through 10yrs ago and until now the success you're having is a positive on my set of goals in life. Thank you for the inspiration and continue to do what you do as I look forward of your uploads.

Austin, I remember waking up for SCHOOL a decade ago. Eyes barely open. Reached for my phone, opened KZbin and THAT video came up. And then soon after the one of your friends helping you out. Glad you’ve thrived over the last decade and I still love your content. Nostalgic for the old days. 🎉

Hey Austin, this comment will probably get buried but I have to say this video made me cry too. I remember in 2014 I was transitioning into high school and suffered from major depression and was suicidal. I would binge watch both you and Linus almost every single day after school. Seeing the highlander collab. I was getting into videography at the time and needed a PC desperately to edit videos on I saw your budget PC under 300 video. I used all the money I had saved up to build that PC. Lol AMD althlon days. Fast forward 10 years later I know run a media production company with a full team when was able to be a part of the video team for Linus Media group on LTT expo 2024. I guess my point thank you. Hadn't been for you i probably would've never built that PC and end up where I am now. Have always supported you and will always support your videos. Till the end my friend.

I remember that day, I was following your channel since December 2013 (I checked that to be more accurate) and then that happened a month later, I felt so sad, but I was happy that you and your family were ok, then I felt moved when all the people from other tech channels were trying to help, I had watery eyes then and now when you mentioned it, bro I'm so happy for you, you openned your heart and you look so grateful for everything, you have a team, a family and so many people that really appreciate what you're doing (included me and the other subscribers) thank you for making this video, is a good example for those that feel down and see no escape, even when everything is burned down to ashes, we can always come back stronger than before and do more than before, this video was great and made my eyes watery again when you started to mentioned everything that you appreciate, keep the good work and content, after 10 years I'll continue watching your videos and supporting your channels, blessings bro.

I remember this happening like it was yesterday. Only 2 years before, my house had also burnt down and I’d lost everything, so it really resonated with me at the time. It’s something you never forget, but also somehow come to be grateful for. It shows you what really matters in life, and always reminds you to cherish those things. All the best Austin!

Hey dude, I just wanted to say thanks for all the years. Literally, I started watching you before the fire. In fact, the first video I started watching your channel through was a budget build guide, which Senate around old-school AMD APU chips. I remember this because I was building a PC specifically to play a Star Wars The old Republic and it had been years since I put together a PC. Your video literally gave me the ability to do that. And since then I’ve been a fan and a follower. I appreciate you dude, I reflect on my life similarly quite often. And it’s good to see someone thinking really deeply about their life, and what they do, and finding joy and purpose in it.

I'm not a daily viewer, but have watched you for many years, including 2014 and that devastation to your home. I loved how the tech community rallied around you like they did, themselves still young and starting out, but cared about a fellow tech KZbinr to come to your rescue like they did. Showed humanity existed in KZbin after all. You've done amazing things because of that day so seems everything may just have a purpose after all, and sometimes those things are very good. Keep doing what your creative mind drives you to do, and makes you happy doing.
