Fun Fact, there was actually another company in Japan called "Logitec" (it's spelled the same as Logitech in Japanese), and they were in Japan before Logitech was able to open up anything in Japan, so Logitech had to change their name to Logicool in Japan only to avoid a name conflict.

In the US, we used to have a department store chain before Internet shopping took over. It was called Best Products. You would shop and check the items to make sure they were what you wanted. You would then take the ticket, pay for the item, and they would bring it from the warehouse in the back to the pick up counter. It was marketed as a catalog store that allowed you to test out the products before buying.

39:20 first time in Japan (over twenty years ago) taught me that rice is not a "bulk up" / "filler" meal item but something to be enjoyed as much as any other item on the plate, even in something as texturally and flavour diverse as a shojin ryori meal the rice is as much a part of the experience and been mildly evangelical about spreading that opinion - it's a hard sell to a lot of Westerners but it's my occasional, once or twice a year, life mission.

Nice to see the colab with Chris Broad! Yeah, as an American, I grew up thinking rice was just there to help fill you up and not taste good or have any taste at all really, but when I went to Japan, I was floored at how good rice can taste.

I’m a Japanese in the UK and I really enjoyed this. Shame the kids watch won’t work in the UK. With child safety more of an issue here than in Japan it would probably do relatively well here. I love rice cookers and bought all my friends one over a couple of years. Yum Asia do good ones in the UK and not as expensive as the Japanese leader but similar technology. I didn’t see it in the video, and I know it’s not a cooking channel… but I hope you washed the rice first…. 😅

I disliked it for this specific reason. For me, it's too fast and I feel anxiety because I can't really focus or understand what's going on. Until you've realized what's happening, the scene has already changed. Constantly changing music, fancy transitions, sfx and short comments. I don't get it, why to rush so much?

The keyboard is underrated because those emoji keys can actually be mapped to do a lot of things, including opening specific apps, command sequence (like ctrl+alt+del), and this can be configured for different applications, so for example the smile emoji can be mapped to activate ctrl+c when you’re using photoshop but when you are on the desktop it can open the browser. It also has other features like copy from a computer and paste in another using the Logitech software.

I’m a drafter who uses that trackball mouse with Civil 3D every day. Once you get used to it fine control with your finger is no problem at all. I have never used the tip of my thumb to control it. It just takes some time to get used to it. Also changing the sensitivity settings will help greatly. I enjoyed the video!

It’s insane when videos come out with people leaving their phone and purse at a fast food restaurant for like 30 minutes and coming back to show how no one steals anything. There’s even a restaurant that has no employees that check you out and you’re trusted to pay for what eat and it stays clean to boot. Japan’s etiquette is such a breath of fresh air in these aspects.

For the rice, you didn't take into account that Japanese Rice (Ultra Short Grain) has a very different texture as Basmati Rice (UK's most common type). That in itself, would make a huge difference in the taste and overall experience of eating rice in UK and rice in Japan.

That thumb ball (upright trackball) has saved me from RSI. When I started working in tech professionally they provided me with a mouse. After a few months I had so much tendon pain. I realised the difference was that I'd been using a media controller at home which works similarly (your arm stays still). Took a couple of months to settle but that was 2005 and Im still coding daily and pain free. I'd give that a 10! :D
