Continuing with our final series of interviews from Behold Your God: Rethinking God Biblically, we present to you the final installment of our interview with Richard Owen Roberts. Roberts has dedicated his life to studying, teaching, and writing about the reality of revival. He is a well-known itinerant preacher and he was very instrumental in the spiritual development of Dr. John Snyder.
We pray this interview warms your heart to the joys of Christ and encourages you to pursue holiness with clean and intentional hands.

Here's a quote from Ian Murray's bio of MLJ. mlj said " I felt that in preaching the first thing you had to do was to demonstrate to the people that what you were going to do was very relevant and urgently important... I started with the man, I wanted him to listen, the patient....here is a patient, a person in trouble, an ignorant man who has been to quacks, and so I deal with all that in the introduction. I wanted to get the listener first and then come to my exposition. Other preachers started with their exposition and ended with a little application." P.147.You preachers have your own methods I'm sure, I'm just sharing MLJ thoughts on his approach. Thank you media gratia

I'm sorry but one more comment. Another problem that preachers in the past have said is that there are no more prayer meetings during the week like there use to be. They said now we call a meeting and discuss things and organize and then ask God to bless it. In the past, the first thing was to call a pray meeting and ask God to intervene and rescue them.

One more thing. MLJ said that the main reason for church, and to go to church is to experience the presence of God through the preaching. Do pastors believe that? Do they conduct the service for that purpose? Our is it just for a bible study? If God does not meet with us in the service, what is it good for? We want to know him( experientially) not just know about him. Is that right? MLJ would ask, is God real to us ? Or is he someone that is faraway somewhere? If there was revival today our so called pastors would probably quench the whole thing because it wasn't done decently and in order. Have you never read about the welsh revival of 1904. There was hardly any preaching and no real leader except the holy spirit. To the outsider and even Christians at first glance it looked like chaos but there was beautiful disorderly order about it! The ministers said that. 1859 ulster revival what about it? Or the revival in Africa in the book," this is that" What do we know about these experiences? Let us be humble and admit there's more than we are experiencing. That's all . I'm not trying to complain or be critical but to be helpful. It's amazing to me the pastors don't read about Revival. It's a very humbling and enlivening experience to read it. It seems to me it would fire them up. Thanks for listening.

If there's no appeal from the pastors for the people to believe or submit or repent or obey what has been preached. Then the people will just ignore what is said. The word must be applied by the preacher to the people's conscience. But I don't think preachers believe that today in the reformed church. Is that wrong? They believe it is Gods work to apply and so they dont appeal to the people. The preachers in the past did not believe that.

It's also been said. That there is no YOU in today's preaching. YOU are the man I'm speaking to, that sort of thing. It's all vague and general. There's not directness. Is preaching just like a glorified commentary on the scriptures today ? It seems like it to alot of us.

There's no directness in today's preaching , there seems to be no application, there's no pleading with sinners or to Christians .It's just all information
