I'm 17 and have been playing cello for 7 years...the development of your musicality is honestly incredible. I have perfect pitch, but I struggled to reflect my sense of intonation onto my playing for years. You didn't seem to have that issue at all. Jealous of you ;-; Lastly, I'm not saying playing harder pieces automatically makes one a better musician, but Popper at 13! Get outta here! 😂I just played that last March for my state test and it was so exhausting.

I played popper at 13 😎😎 doesnt mean I played it well tho HAHA

If you try to produce the base sound with arm pressure (or if you correct whisles and stuff with arm pressure), that can massively affect your intonation
@NimbusTheScout2 жыл бұрын
@@kamikan22 so get shredded. Thanks for the advice!
@paeridolia2 жыл бұрын
@@kamikan22 is producing sound with arm pressure something you should or shouldnt do?
@kamikan222 жыл бұрын
EDIT: sorry if my english is bad xC @@paeridolia I recently learned, after a year of good projection but with abuse of pressure, that for making the string vibrate you only need speed and point of contact (lower strings/notes = less bow, far from bridge; higher string/notes = more bow (faster) and closer to bridge) Only THEN you can start adding pressure to that base to produce more volume or make an effect, if you start with pressure from the begining, chances are that you are overdoing it, changing intonation and even stoping the string from vibrating freely Also a side offect of this last one, is that if you are constantly adding pressure, when you make an error or something you may loose the right arm (because you are thinking on correction and we often play soft to correct) and suddenly the notes changes by some comas becuase of the pressue drop and you start messing even more x'd HOW I realized this? just look at the string and make it vibrate from the start of the bow with the most amplitud possible without pressure, then move around near to the string trying to maintain the same sound (looking at it insted of only listening), every whisle and stuff is easly seen on the string and easy to correct this way
@sarahwingert2252 жыл бұрын
That's incredible. I play violin for 16 years now, but never could I imagine having such a neat intonation. Not a single note was out of place, despite all shifts. :o

When you get to the last part, jump back again to the early stages in the video and listen to the change in the sound. When she was a little girl her notes sounded mostly like melodic steps from a recipe that she had to repeat tune by tune like a robot. Years later the transition from note to note is so smooth and soft, the sounds have all these subtle changes and melt together, with such delicacy and sentimental effect. Those are years and years of practice to get to that level.

@@peepeeLETMEHAVETHENAME - I don't agree. Musicality is a talent. Great hearing, musical coordination and sense of rhythm and pitch is a talent and does not depend on the amount of hours you practice. Then of course, everybody needs to work hard. Let's not argue about such an unnecessary topic
@dareelpeeps2902 жыл бұрын
I believe it is a combination of hard work and a good teacher. As you can see from the beginning, I do not have any more 'talent' than any other kid. The only talent that is needed is the ability to focus for long enough to actually practice.

@@dareelpeeps290 I am a professional high level musician and music teacher with 30 years of experience. I have been in juries of competitions. In first rounds or selection processes where you hear over and over again the same pieces. Most of them are very well played without any technical problems, nicely phrased, with beautiful sound etc. All of them have a good skills. And in between, suddenly, comes in someone and produces some magic. Something stands out, sometimes you cannot even put a name on it. No musician gets on the top without good teachers and countless hours of practice. But some of them have the ++. I believe and defend that a special musical talent exists.

I wanna say something that most of the songs ur playing I know like gavotte and more and I don't play cello I play viola but I'm in a music program where I play with different instruments like violin cello bass flute trumpet french horn and more! A fact that I know is that when u play a instrument and ur sitting sit at the edge for better sound and it is more comfortable. Another fact that I know is the instrument I play viola has the same strings as cello La, re, Sol, and do. And I love the vibrato is try to loosen ur hand a little and don't press to hard on the strings and something that can make it better is maybe put ur fingers up the ones ur not using for vibrato and start slow and then get faster. One more thing is if u wanna play faster, move ur wrist and keep ur fingers over the finger board and sometimes show action but overall it's great! Keep up the great work!
