Really interesting post. I have 9 dream on a single. Bought it when I was 14 and would put the arm to repeat play it. Its in my top 10 singles ever. I had always assumed it was Yoko Ono’s voice whispering his name John. I never knew it was May Pang. The single had John and Yoko’s faces almagamating in to one which seems on if its May Pangs voice on the record? I was recently on the National Trust Beatles Tour of John and Pauls child hood houses in Liverpool) The guide told me I had sat in Meme’s chair! (Johns auntie/ Step mum) He told us it was on the floor of his front room he would do his drawings probably the ones on the Walls and Bridges Album cover : )

Thank you for shining a spotlight on my favorite John Lennon solo LP. It’s very underrated and does not receive the appreciation and praise it deserves. Listen to this album! No. 9 Dream, Surprise Surprise (Sweet Bird of Paradox), Nobody Loves You When You’re Down and Out, Scared, Old Dirt Road, Going Down on Love, Steel and Glass are some of my favorite Lennon tracks. Your shout out to Turtle’s brought back some great memories of all the time I spent flipping through LPs and CDs.

You mentioned John invented "stay at home dad". I said that years ago, I mean like 50 years ago. I'm so glad that a young guy such as yourself recognizes that. But what's more important is your love for John and his music. I can hear it in your voice. So, thank so much for this shout-out/review of Walls and Bridges, a truly wonderful album.

This was good commentary. This was my first time I've seen any of your videos. I will have to watch some more. I also like "Walls and Bridges" a lot. If he was going to actually do something approaching disco, I think his song, "What You Got," gives us something of a glimpse of what might have been.

John Lennon & Walls and Bridges does matter. My favorite artist and my favorite album! I wish you talked more about the songs in the album and what made this album matter, instead of all the other stuff you mentioned. You didn't mention that this album topped the Billboard charts at #1 and gave his first #1 US single, "Whatever Gets You Thru the Night".

IMHO Mind Games was intended to be the third part of a triptych with Plastic Ono & Imagine - (the clue's in the cover). But by then he was tired, creatively, and this has a weary, depressing even desperate feel about it. Stodgy, turgid, and ultimately mannerist - like Reg Dwight's Caribou or Mozart's Jupiter (I'm sure there are other examples). Walls + Bridges was refreshing, in that sense - reflecting a sense of euphoria at having escaped the drunken haze of LA, perhaps - but ultimately insignificant and superficial. Truth is, he never recovered his Beatles mojo. Double Fantasy had nice songs but they were all rather cringeworthy & comfortable while the overall mood was - prophetically - morbid. OK so that's just my opinion - you can't see it but I know it's mine.

He really needed Paul to vibe off of. I agree his solo output doesn't compare to his Beatle work.

The 'Mind Games' album made me frustrated. Every track was quite good except the production was diminishing. The background singers was a bad choice, IMO. "Walls And Bridges' is better but still not quite as good as it could have been. The production is still a little off. However, it became a favorite. The more I listened to it the better it got.

Listen to the recently released new mix that Sean Lennon produced. The refresh reveals true beauty that’s in the songs on that LP.

Walls and Bridges on a list of 100 albums that matter? It has a few good songs but.... If I moved to a deserted Island and could only take 100 albums, it wouldn't be one of them.
@vinylfetishclub3414 ай бұрын
This isn't a Desert Island Disc 100. This is for album collectors and it's just my personal opinion.
