I have discovered this record pretty recently, and at first I was sort of weird out by how challenging it was to listen to it, but as I dove deeper into this all-consuming whirl of stories and characters, I began to appreciate it more then any other record I’ve ever listened to. it is beautiful in its complexity. Kate Bush had achieved something, no other artist had ever managed to do in my eyes - to absorb me entirely into this world, that she creates.

It is kind of crazy I can find the original pressings in good/great condition for less than the new pressings that don’t sound as good. What a hobby, am I right?!….😄

Still boggles my mind that the band went from the insipid meh Modern World to this in such a short space of time. Sound Affects always their pinnacle and most developed sound for me but AMC a real flag in the sand moment for them.

This is one of the albums I played for my daughter with headphones on my pregnant belly. Another is American Prayer by Jim Morrison. I added light classical to round it out. She’s 20 now. Did exceptionally well in school. In her 2nd year of college. It’s going good, but challenging, which she likes. I always give Kate and Jim credit.

Great video. Love 7” records. I collected all the 2 Tone records as a kid and still have them today. The Jam’s B sides could have been A sides for a lot of the singles. Such a strong writer. Paul is still putting out great work and gigging hard. I used to work a paper round to get my records - freezing cold weather. Rain wind and frost but well worth it. Thanks for sharing

Black Tie White Noise was released on vinyl in 1993 in Europe and Brazil, but not in the US. In 2022 it has been reissued worldwide as a Double-LP.

As an attendee of Live Aid I have to say that it really was a very piss poor concert, terrible sound and really only Queen got the sound together on the day.

Fantastic, articulate and really interesting review of Bush’s ‘The dreaming ‘. I will subscribe and i hope you can in the future do some deep dives into some of kate bush’s albums, especially the obscure ones, or misunderstood such as The red shoes or 50 words for snow ❄️. Im a massive Kate Bush fan but loved the knowledgeable contexts you drew from’ including learning about your own life experiences in music 🎵 eg working in a record shop at the time, Bush launched. How cool 😎. I know these videos must take a lot of effort and time so thank you . I would imagine you are a musician and educator / lecturer in music . Anyway very cool 😎. Im a teacher in the creative arts too and a curator who works with young artists and designers and was very inspired by your discussion today. Greetings from Aotearoa New Zealand 🇳🇿:)

Great video and I can relate! I bought most of these singles in 81-82 at the original Newbury Comics in Boston. Aimee Mann worked the counter! You had to check in regularly since they were imports.

Greetings from uk. Went to see a local tribute Jam band 'A band called malice' in Worcester on friday night. Very good and crowd great. Strangely they did all their classics but did a few virtually unknown b sides which were really good. Its great hearing your views from over the pond. 😊

I had the same experience as Randall on the Black Rose tour. Except the promoters stuck Eddie Money on the bill with Thin Lizzy and Journey. I thought for sure Money would come on first, (i did not want to see him, so hung out with my friends in the parking lot, as you do...), and I was so disappointed to walk in to the Mid-south Coliseum in Memphis Tennessee, and hear Thin Lizzy already playing! Without the lights down, even. They killed, but only got to do a short set. The rest of the show was a snore to me.

Oh man, so good to see those Jam 45s again. I had every one of those singles & all in picture sleeves. Unfortunately they were all stolen by the local grave digger. True story, couldn't make it up. But I do still have A Town Called Malice/Precious on 12 inch complete with the striped purple & black black paper bag it came in. And I still have my pair of "Jam shoes" I bought on Petticoat Lane circa 78. Happy daze!

Love the Jam. My experience was similar, seeking out those UK import 45s at record store here in the States. My go to spot was Moby Disc in Sherman Oaks, CA. Finally saw the Jam in London in Dec 1981. What better place to see them ? Love seeing that Secret Affair single. Saw them at the Whisky in the summer of 81. What a high energy show.

Really enjoyable video,I'm a big JAM fan myself. I'm like a lot of folk in britain,I'd never heard of THE JAM until the release of Going Underground and then the rest is history as they say. I've got all the British 7" single releases in pic sleeves,12" singles, albums and a couple of unofficial LPs too. I've also got a photo of me holding my copy of Down in the tube station... at the very same spot where the boys are standing on the sleeve. Although I've never been a massive STYLE COUNCIL fan,I collect their stuff too and have a decent enough collection. Apart from a couple of other Weller bits and bobs and a collaboration with Suggs from MADNESS,that's where it ends for me,I'm not a fan of Wellers solo stuff. THE JAM.....bloody fantastic 👍👍👍 All the best sir.

To me, one of the greatest albums ever made. Hounds of Love sounds ljke an extension of The Dreaming, like light (Hounds) and dark (The Dreaming), but both equally experimental.

Phillo was from the south suburb of Crumlin, a real working class area. When you were in Dublin you must have drank in Bruxelles off Grafton Street, that was my drinking hole in the early nineties, dark, dingy, smokey and loud with rock and metal music. Phillo drank there and in the other great Dublin boozers in the area. Howth head is more of a peninsula than an island. Lovely to visit in the summer climb the head and the view of Dublin bay is amazing.

We might have crossed paths! Thanks for the bio factoid. Somewhere I have a pic of me with the Phil statue in Dublin. I've always thought of Howth as an island, but you're right. I don't think the DART even crosses a bridge on the way out! Pints at the Summit!

Great job! I thought their early releases (The EP/All Over the Place) were so great and if anyone in those days had known about them; they would've been much bigger. The EP and All Over The Place was more of who they are as a band. There was so much extra production that went into their next two albums.
