The Spelljammer setting implies all D&D settings (crystal spheres) exist at the same time and can be reached by sailing with it the magical Helm mounted on a ship. You can go from Forgotten Realms to Dragon Lance make a weekend stop in Greyhawk and have a weekend in Mystara. The Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Book and Monster Manual lore is from Greyhawk (Gary Gygax) and the wizard Mordenkainen was a character played by Gary Gygax before making Mordenkainen. This makes Mordenkainen older than all D&D worlds. Canonically Ed Greenwood, author of Forgotten Realms was just documenting his exploration of Toril... Giant Space Hamsters exist btw

all dnd lore is cannon and takes place except for you and your campaign think pokemon. your party or save file is an alternate universe whete your descions change the outcome.
@LeaderOfTheLostSoulsАй бұрын
Anyways as I said DnD makes it so all worlds possible and impossible exist and can be created here in this verse as you can make campaign about literally anything as you act as the DM aka Dungeon Master who is represented by The Luminous Being the true god of the verse. DnD has a lot of canon crossovers with things like Cthulhu Mythos, Godzilla, SCP, and etc. like Cthulhu is a Greater God in DnD, 682 and The Scarlet King exists here, and more. There’s also DnD guide books you can use to make different campaigns like my friends had a DC style one we used to do a DC style game for fun. It is one of the most vast verses with so many different connections and ultimate freedom. Godzilla is quite powerful there and another version of Godzilla specifically Godzilla in Hell surpasses DnD, and he’s broken As Fuck.

@@LeaderOfTheLostSouls i wouldnt use dnd for a super hero campaign id use a different system for superpowers but cool sound like fun
@LeaderOfTheLostSoulsАй бұрын
@@LordJacobGinsberg1st Well actually it was more like a mix of DC and Marvel in DnD it was for super heroes and villains, it was a chaotic fun campaign lol One major event was just us running away and trying to stop Lobo who became the Ghost Rider but he was far too powerful for us and we couldn’t run away from him forever cuz he would tear through dimensions to get to us so One of my friends was a magic user who had ridiculously high levels of lucky and charisma rolled to find a way to beat him by exploiting his love for Space Dolphins which aren’t real but my friend using his magic made them real and made a home for them so it made Lobo happy and saved our asses.

Forgotten Realms lore is massive because (much like the Star Wars expanded universe), it's been being tinkered with by dozens of contributing authors over the course of decades. It actually predates D&D, with its primary creator first working on it for his own personal stories starting in the '60s, before later using it as the setting for his personal D&D campaigns later in life. D&D later bought the rights from him in the '80s and made it the main setting for the game, and between published adventures for the TTRPG, novels, video games, and movies, it's just kept being continually further fleshed out and evolved since.

Ed Greenwood, the original creator of the setting, has a KZbin channel he updates very frequently and he does a lot of lore detailing and he’s pretty cool, worth checking out. Forgotten reals topics I would reccomend you dive into: The gods in general. They have a lot of videos explaining them. The blood war between demons and devils. It's super hardcore. As you'd expect of demons and devils. Dragons. Every color of dragon has its own lore. And they're all badass. Giants. Big nordic bros. Size does matter. Bigger is better.
@jhulsey4301Ай бұрын
If you like D&D/Forgotten Realms lore, I guarentee you would love The Elder Scolls lore. It's kinda in the same vein as Forgotten Realms lore, but gets absolutely insane when you look at the deeper lore/interpretations of that lore. If you are interested, Imperial Knowledge, Camelworks, and Fudgemuppet are fantastic channels to start with.
@Shepherd1OFHАй бұрын
Hey, there is more than you think. Mr. Rexx here is giving you the 5e verson of the lore with gods vs primordials etc. This is more meta retcons etc. For the 'real' (older/original versions of) lore, there are other channels you might want to check out too such as esper the bard, aj pickett, ed greenwood, etc. Ed is actually the original creator of the realms. Also, while most if not all of the recent stuff takes place in toril, not all of D&D does. In the 1st decade of the 21st century, the primary world was Greyhawke, rather than forgotten realms, and early on in the 70's and 80's the worlds of Mystara and Krynn were in play as well.

The Duergar video had lore i didn't know as a veteran player that changed how I view the setting. The videos and about basilik, cocktrice, and medusa are worth watching together in post order. Three monsters all turn things to stone, but are suprisingly different. Also shouting out Grimdark Half Off. Dude does good Conan videos. Conan is crazy important to dnd and all of fantasy. You really wont know till you look into it. Same goes for Elric of Melnibone for the fantasy genre. Warhammer fantasy's core is Elric. So 40k's is aswell.

Couple notes here about names/places/other franchises: 1) the vast majority of the gods are actually inspired by real world gods (Bahamet and Tiamat are actual gods of ancient IRL pantheons). 2) Magic, the gathering is not inherently tied to Dnd lore wise. However, they did release a set that adapted a portion of forgotten realms history into the card game specifically tied to the events of BG three; the set was called “the battle for Baldur’s gate” 3) the legend of Vox Machina and Critical Role do not take place in the forgotten realms, rather they take place on a world called Exandria.
