The first set (engineer, scout, heavy, soldier, demoman, and sniper) were all made pretty early on in the game's lifespan: 2007-2009. Spy, Medic, and Pyro didn't come out until several years later (2012-ish). The game had picked up like crazy and Valve had gotten a lot better at using Source Film Maker to do the last three at a WAY higher production value. That's why those ones were so much more impressive than the first set. And yes, I did say Source Film Maker. THAT Source Film Maker. These videos are essentially THE reason the independent R34 animation community exists as it does today. it is impossible to overstate how much we owe to TF2.

It's actually the goggles of his mask that warp his perception of reality. You can equip them on the other classes to activate "Pyro vision". He's not crazy, just seeing the world through literal rose tinted glasses

Actually, pyrovision googles allows others to tap in to what Pyro sees. In the comics we can see that Pyro actually sees fire as rainbows and happiness. So the first they ever made was Meet the Heavy, and I believe the original intent was it was an animation test that the devs did to exercise the engine's facial animation and such and they turned it into a funny short and released it. And people loved it so much they ended up eventually making ones for every class. Pyro was the final one. And people had all kinds of ideas of how they were going to approach the pyro, would they finally speak instead of the muffled whatever they had in game? who knew, and that is what we got. It also came with the bubble thrower as an in game item with its own sound effects and everything to mimic the Trailer. Awesome stuff

my first experience with tf2 was at a lan party in high school (im old, yusuke) with the immolated scout screaming "FIRE! FIRE!" and i knew i had to buy it (yes, was once not a FTP game). seeing nux's reaction to the meet the x series without having to wait months and sometimes years between releases is classic
