Hi 1stMarS, i make a gel food comprised of several ingredients. I blend everything to form a puree. Some items are cooked, some blanched while others are left raw. Ingredients include spinach, potatoes, pumpkin, carrots, eggs, ramshorn snails, duckweed, moringa, chicken or beef heart, shrimp, swai/tilapia ( any fish really) and gelatin to hold it together. The Moringa is especially important as it contains more minerals, vitamins and amino acids than almost any food you can think of, so i don't need to supplement with vit c or calcium etc. Also, this DIY food is much cheaper than buying commercially foods. I use this food for my goldfish, guppies, discus...all my fish actually.

Hello Dexter, I am shikhar from canada. I would like to tell you that I am a passionate ornamental fish lover since my childhood. I have been keeping different kinds of fish in my aquarium like goldfish, platies, mollies, guppies, angel fish, gouramis, discuss fish, betta fish and many more. Its my dream to start my ornamental fish farming business which I am going to start very soon. Currently I am practicing how to breed live-bearers like guppy and mollies. Guess what, I was successful to breed them in my aquarium tank and with proper care and attention, the fries of guppies are 2 months old now and they are completely healthy. With your informative videos and so much strong encouragement towards fish farming, me and my best friend are going to start goldfish breeding next month. Its a nice co-incidence that you are uploading the video about goldfish breeding week by week which is helping me to learn the breeding process. This is first time we are going to breed goldfish. We have thoroughly researched about how to breed goldfish and take care of baby frys. But Dexter I have few questions which I would like to ask you, which are as follows: (1) Dexter in this video you rubbed your finger gently on female's belly and could tell that which fish is ready to breed and which is not. So I want to ask how did you decide that? Should we feel soft near the belly area (indication of eggs) of female? Is that the way we decide whether the goldfish is ready to breed or not? (2) Dexter we are planning to breed 3 gold fishes (1 female and 2 males) in a glass tank sized 3x1.5x1 ft (length x breadth x height). So is this size preferable for goldfish breeding? (3) Also we are planning to take water testing kit which will test ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, ph and hardness/softness of water. So is this test kit required during breeding and after that to monitor the fries water chemistry? (4) We have studied whole nitrogen cycle and how it continues in an aquarium, we have also learned from you how to differentiate between male and female goldfish properly. We are going to do it systematically by providing everything required like air pump, filter, heater, high protein content foods and plants like java moss, hornwort and pennywort. But there's one problem dexter that we are unable to find natural plants frequently at our place. So can we use plastic plants instead of live plants while breeding for goldfish to lay eggs on them? Lastly, I would like to ask you that dexter is there any thing which we are missing out? Is there any piece of advice you would like to give us before we start our goldfish breeding? Once again thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for inspiring us so much and giving us your viewers so much informative videos. Im not dex bro, but after watching his video got a positive result and i did some estimation. Old water + 1 gal rain water(according to some filipino breeders). More than 1wk of giving live food(mine frozen bloodworm) and high protein pellets. When the abdomen of fem gf is bigger than before and the males is following the fem that’s the time u need to separate them. In my case i used diy yarn. 👌🏼 our local breeders told me timing and estimation is the key. I think that’s what dexter want to show us(anus/body of fem gf&behaviour) 😅

Thanks brother. I will try that method and will a 3 x 1.5 x 1 ft tank favorable for goldfish fry's to grow up? And I have one really important thing to ask that how do you differentiate between a healthy male and female goldfish. How do you identify male and females? I did see a goldfish clearly in a nearby aquarium shop and some of the methods to identify male and female like: (1) Dorsal fin (if there are white spots on fin then it's a male and if the fin is clear and smooth then it's a female). I tried to identify through this method but could not differentiate between male and female. (2) By looking at anal spot if it's wide open then its female or else male. (3) By looking at the size of belly it can be identified whether it's male or female. (This method is tough to identify in pearlscale). Brother if it's possible for you then can you send me a specific video describing this on facebook?
