You should read ``What a Fish Knows: the Secret Lives Of Our Underwater Cousins'' by Jonathan Balcombe, published in 2016. He is a marine biologist who is a very good writer and and the book is chock-full o' anecdotes of fish in his many scuba studies over his career (he's also a professor,) and it's just a wonderful book about fish.

I use methaline blue in every tank once there are eggs no matter the species. This will prevent the eggs getting fungus. You can also use malaysian trumpet snails (for warm water) as they will clean the eggs of fungus without harming the eggs.
