Some fine looking games there! The C64 truly was a powerful machine. My jaw hit the floor with some of the clips, (the creatures boss for example) Nice choice of Papa new guinae too.

Thanks for the kind words. The game at 4:05 is Anarchy. Also :) I'm going to revise your statement to "where else could you find such innovative titles with pretty good graphics" as you could find loads of innovative and original games on the Spectrum, many of which were exclusive (as were many greats for the C64), you did however have to put up with colour clash or monochrome graphics with the Speccy.

Very nice! Thank You. I still use the c64, thank you!

@ slkforever Don't be misled by the low framerate of YT vids. The vast majority of c64 games run at 50fps for PAL, 60fps for NTSC, same as NES and SMS. The NES does have several advantages, such as its hardware-based sprite multiplexer, yet it isstill limited to a max of 8 sprites per horizontal line, while its sprites are only one third the width of c64 ones. This is the main reason for sprite flicker in NES games and why big bosses are often built out of background tiles on a black screen.

I think the 2nd song takes a while to get going, but the main problem was that I needed a song that was 6 minutes odd long to fit the video, I think it does a good job personally, maybe not perfect but still good, for me the first song gives a lot of energy to the vid but the 2nd is more nostalgic.

Also the NES is not all-around superior technically either, whilst beating out the C64 in many areas, the C64 still had a superior sound chip, and from what i've heard sprite capabilities, compare the whale from Rodland (00:22) or the giant flying boss from Creatures 2 (02:53) to the Dragon towards the end of Mega Man 2 which causes the NES to slow down and flicker on a massive scale even with nothing but a black background (that boss fight still manages to rock hard though)

First game is one of my all time faves, creatures! Doesnt seem to be that well known but for me was one of the best. Nice vid. My only problem is that i feel the audio for the second half doesnt really fit (thats just my opinion). I like the music for the first half though.

The C64 game library of over 4000 titles completely dwarfs the NES game library of around 1000 (Japan only, it was more like 600 in the US and substantially fewer in Europe) The NES library only really wins out specifically in the number and quality of it's platform games and jrpg's (a genre the C64 was very lacking in)

No, I don't forget Nintendo's illegal business practices and "Seal of Quality" which was pretty much the reason why 70% of it's games library was platform games, if you limit the number of games a company can release every year you're basically forcing it to put all it's eggs in one basket, the most popular game genre for the time was platformer, so that was also the least risky business proposition, also I might add it didn't seem to stop terrible games from appearing on the console anyway.

Wow, you've really shown a great parade with the best of the best, you just missed Henry's House, Parker Bro's Popeye, Aztec Challenge, Bomb Jack, Yie Are Kung Fu, Mikie, International Karate, Rambo : The First Blood and Mega Apocalypse (and included Wonder Boy twice). I'd like to have all those games that are in your video, but I just managed to collect some(about 40% of them).

You say "the rest not" in too much of a broard way, what has the speed of a consoles games got to do with it's sprite capabilities? in my experience anything on NES with loads of sprites onscreen has masses of flicker to the extent not commonly seen on the C64. The C64 was originally designed to be a games machine but was later changed to be a home computer so it was not adapted to play arcade style games at all it was designed with them in mind from the beginning.
