How come you rarely use magic builds for duels? The chip damage and constant pressure from spells would seem to work well in even high level 1v1s, especially with your master spacing.

Yes you do and it can also backswing if you roll the first one

It doesnt always keep prio, you can r2-r2 but after that you lose prio on perfect mash against fast weapons (mirror / ts / sham / fist with caestus r2 only). Though someone who isn't as mechanical probably won't be able to mash in time, and it puts out a lot of damage, so on health advantage it can be worth r2-ing even after as you'll trade. (Tbh a lot of match ups become so much easier and can disregard most prio stuff with health advantage and it becomes so much harder for the one with less health, you can see that at 4:40 where, once he got health advantage, he just mashed and rushed at the opponent.)

Over half the time with high level duels, they're in their menus swapping gear or weapons continuously. I just feel like that's why souls games don't have much of a competitive scene

? Hardswapping/menuing requires a lot of skill and practice, if anything it makes PvP more competetive. The game doesn't have much of a competitive scene because PvP isn't a priority for the devs, its a PvE game with optional PvP, most people don't play souls games for the pvp so its not worth for them to put resources into it.

@ridero4812 it does require skill you're right. What i mean is though that its not that entertaining to watch passive gameplay and menu swaps from a large majority of the duel. I speak in terms of spectatorship. Menus are also so convoluted to customize in the first place. Just not optimal for pvp
