The UK has some of the toughest gun control legislation in the world. Here's a perspective on what it's like to be a firearm owner living with gun control and some of the consequences, both intended and unintended. Told from the perspective of an individual shooter dealing with the regime, this is not about advocating for policy on firearms legislation, but just some thoughts on the practicalities.

I totally agree with your presentation, as things are very similar here in Australia. But I can't shake that feeling that Americans have the advantage with the people having the ability to take back control from government over reach.. and you can't answer with anything about government over reach for fear of losing your ticket.. the best example of this is the Bundy ranch stand off.

I have a SOLID suspicion, practically a guarantee at this point, that we will start having Bundy style standoffs a LOT more regularly going forward. Police, courts.... government in general is getting ever more aggressive as the days tick by. I'm afraid they are going to keep pushing and when critical mass is reached, there won't be a LEO department or government agency that has EVER EXISTED that will be able to stop the backlash that is coming from John Q. Citizen in the U.S. I know I am COMPLETELY fed up and fully expect the worse to happen. I don't want it and won't look for to happen but when it does come, I will absolutely NOT ignore it nor turn away. I FULLY intend to do that which I can to reign in this horrific culture of overblown policing and government abuse and intrusion. If that means digging through my amory for the right 'tools', so be it! This is exactly WHY our 2nd Amendment was included into our Constitution.

Cool video and interesting learning more about your countries laws. Question about black powder revolvers, like the colt 1851 navy (is that was you have?) is that also regulated under the same laws? The video seemed to take an unexpected change when referring to US firearms owners. Especially that it seemed implied that the person is only using it for defending themselves against a deranged person. In the UK they might well have a 🔪 During the American Revolution, the concept of an armed populace played a pivotal role in the fight for independence. Many of the colonists who took up arms against British rule were ordinary citizens, farmers, tradesmen, and artisans who formed militias to defend their communities and assert their rights. These militias, composed of armed citizens, served as the backbone of the revolutionary effort. They played crucial roles in battles such as Lexington and Concord, where they engaged British forces in the opening skirmishes of the war. The ability of ordinary citizens to bear arms and organize into militias allowed for a decentralized resistance movement that could respond quickly to threats and coordinate efforts across colonies. The experience of fighting against a powerful and well-equipped British army reinforced the belief among the founding fathers in the necessity of an armed populace for the defense of liberty. They saw firsthand the importance of citizens being able to defend themselves and their communities from external threats, whether they be foreign invaders or domestic oppressors. This historical context deeply influenced the drafting of the Second Amendment, which sought to ensure that future generations would retain the ability to resist tyranny and protect their freedoms through the maintenance of a well-regulated militia and the right of the people to keep and bear arms. Thus, the Second Amendment not only reflects the founding fathers' British heritage but also their experiences during the Revolutionary War and their belief in the fundamental right of individuals to defend themselves and their communities.

Thanks for your thoughtful reply. The introduction originally contained a nod to US based viewers who might not be familiar with UK gun control, but that unfortunately got lost in editing. Black powder firearms are also regulated under the same laws, so an 1851 muzzle loading revolver would also have to be acquired and possessed under licence. You have a superb hunting and sport shooting scene in the US with a great variety of firearms and ammo at your disposal, and a great number of responsible and considerate gun owners. Nevertheless, through the multiple filters of news media, the 'Stand Your Ground' stories are the ones with the disproportionate attention given to them. I think provided there are enough instances where 'Stand Your Ground' is the prevailing instinct and guns are easy to acquire without checks, a vicious circle arms race between police, criminals and ordinary citizens can result. Without going into the ontology of the Second Amendment, I think there does not have to be a conflict between having Second Amendment rights to bear arms in the interest of maintaining a well regulated militia. The Swiss manage that quite well. Later US case law has influenced the Founding Fathers' concept; in my opinion, overbalancing the right to bear arms and reducing the importance of the conditionality (contained in the original amendment) of the interest of maintaining a well regulated militia. I can respect the reasons for the Second Amendment having come into being, but as it is currently enacted, the practical effect is mixed - on the one hand, a great and highly innovative shooting scene, and on the other hand, an overwhelmingly high level of gun violence and homicide with firearms.

@@flecktarnuk3557the big stumbling block is the US is that many people have an inherent distrust of government. If they give up one right, then it is seen as the thin edge of a wedge and they will lose more of their rights. We in the U.K. don't have an absolute right to own a firearm, but we also don't have absolute freedom of speech either.

Low power (sub 12ft/lb rifles) airguns are legally firearms, but no license required.

Thank you for sharing. A friend of mine is English. When he comes over, we go out and shoot those evil black rifles. He loves it. Last trip, I had an 8lb canister of rifle powder delivered to my house. (that is for reloading rifle cartridges) He was floored that was an option. I get it. If you guys are safe and like the rules, be happy. I have never known any different. I grew up hunting. I served a career in the Army. Fought in Iraq. I could never imagine not having my own, personal arsenal in my house. I carry a gun every day. Everywhere I go. I have had to draw that gun a couple of times. That was enough, never had to shoot someone here, in my country. Of course, combat was a different story. I would love to hunt grouse and pheasant in England. I watch TGS Outdoors on youtube. They have a true love of shotguns, that I share. Best of luck to you and yours.
