My adventure into new world started with an impulse decision, and ended up in over 100 hours of fun gameplay, join me as i discuss what is good and bad with this amazon based mmo. From the fun crafting and gathring, middling combat, and a host of other features.

Just a tip that will save you a lot of time. When you fall off of something, immediately open up your settings tab where you can choose to recall to your inn but instead hit the Stuck button. Every two minutes(i think its about 2 minutes), you can recall back to the spot you fell from and if you fall in deep water you can get out before you die. You can abuse this with jumping off cliffs to mine ore and other things as long as you keep the cooldown timer in mind.

I adore New World, myself. Been playing since launch, and my favorite MMO, right up with Secret World Legends, Neocron, and Project Gorgon If you like the type where you get XP for everything you do, you might like Project Gorgon. You got simple stuff like combat skills like sword, knife, unarmed, etc, and trade skills like foraging and carpentry, but also stuff like weather witching and psychology (with abilities like Mock, You Were Adopted, and Tell Me About Your Mother), and civil skills like poetry appreciation and alcohol tolerance Highly recommend

Good review. The game usually has issues after patch's but typically resolves shortly after. The graphic glitches I noticed I think are exclusive to you, I don't know of many people who have those issues, the game is very CPU resource heavy.

I haven't watched the video yet, but I've been thinking about maybe getting into New World for a couple of days and was gonna look into reviews over the weekend and youtube just recommended it to me so that's pretty spot on timing there :) Hopefully when I have time to watch the video it'll help me come to a decision on that, so adding to my watch later and whatever the case, thank you for your fantastic timing on this :p

this is such a fun game. Everything about is fun except a couple of oddities like storage at first and an overwhelming amount of materials for alchemy and cooking. But crafting weapons and gathering tools for yourself is great fun. I wish it had contriller support officially though, its actually really fun combat on controller and feels like it was made for it. I'm shocked it's not on console. Add cross platform, and this game would hit massive numbers.

The misunderstood thing about the expansion is that for almost 2 years the cap was 625 gear score, and virtually everyone who consistently played the game were maxed out with best in slot gear. So as you can imagine there was no point in doing 75% of the content because there was nothing to gain anymore. The last massive update (Brimstone Sands in Oct. 2022) brought in a brand new zone for free. So originally there were only 14 zones. Brimstone made it 15. Nobody has been using the First Light zone for a very long time, so it was overdue for a rework, nobody is hurt that they paid for First Light in base game. Now as far as the paid expansion offering so little, this is where paying attention to the storyline would've given you some extra insight. Incoming spoiler: the end scene shows that the story is not over yet with 'The Rise of the Angry Earth'. And from previous dev videos over the last year+, there is a new zone not yet revealed (There is actually a leaked map that shows the map being double in size). Based off of this and how the devs described the expansion to be 'Pay to Continue', future updates that directly follow the MSQ, will be locked under the 'Rise of the Angry Earth' expansion. To do the math, it was $40 for base game at launch, which for many players offered thousands of hours of content, to me thats great value. Then to continue the story even farther its $20-25 and we are just at the beginning of this continued story. Compare that to a membership from OSRS or WoW, the price seems pretty reasonable in my perspective. Great review tho, glad you tried it out at least.

To be fair the expansion has another dungeon that comes out with each season and the zone that was replaced was a redundant and crap looking zone so it was a benefit to the zone to have it reworked.

Also regarding the transmog tokens, u also get them from season pass, both free and paid, so tdchnically more than 1 a week, but still, i think this is a reasonable timeframe. There are many items in new world, but these are not unlimited, and some look alike, unlocking a skin set with tokens feels good, i have already 3 full sets made with tokens, and love them , and i wouldnt want to progress those faster

Beauty of this game, i was a healer since day 1, literally, but left the game after few months for almost two years because.. glitches, bugs, abusers, money dupes, item dupes.. well in one day, if u didnt glitch or lag money dupe, u suddenly got weeks behind in progression... anyway, came back recently, im in love with this game second time, love all the updates and changes they do, this game is barely what it was in the beginning, way better now, but yea, my point, beauty of this game is u can play whatever class u fancy and u dont even need to min max ur gear, probably just buy full set for under 1k gold, currently im a healer, tank and dps depending on the situation

Ive played this game since closed beta and put down 1000s of hours. To me Pvp is the best thing about the game but I agree movement is probably among the worse things and combat does feel clunky sometimes and is suffering from mayor desync at times, especially when you aren't used to it yet. This game movement is like FPS games for some reason where you can only move where you point the camera. And that feels so weird since all other 3rd person combat games has a free camera system where you can move in all 360 degrees or in at least 8 directions. And yes framerates are really terrible in this game when there's a lot of players on screen. You pretty much need a 13th or 14th Gen Intel processor or one of the X3D AMD ones. And even then you might get fps drops down to 30-40.

Expansion is more of a pay wall. Aside from what you have mentioned, you'll also get the season 4 updates and more seasonal updates onwards until the next expansion. And about the rework zone, First Light was basically a deadzone. Nothing really special so reworking it was a good move imo. Good video review btw.

So in conclusion?

I don't understand the people complaining for paying... do they think companies make games for love? Do they think the quantity of people and resources it takes to make a MMO like this? or the cost of the infrastructure where the game is running? I played WoW for 18 years.. paying the game at 50€, 14€ more x month, plus 35€ per expansion.. if you make some numbers, it's a lot!! or go play FF XIV, the full game, not the capped free version, and see how much you are spending on the game. New world, for starters whas a "cheap" game at 40€, if you didn't want to pay more, you could play the game for 2 years ... yes 2 years!! totally for free... they are running their servers and people for 2 years without you having to pay a cent!! Then they come with a free expansion like Brimstone Sands was... totally free again!! I guess it's time they start making some money out of the game.... because I'm pretty sure they've lost tons of money on the first 2 years (I work on IT, I know the costs of infrastructure, where my company pays millions for their servers). You cannot have mounts? you cannot get level 65? Well, how much time you want to play an online game for 40€?? I think it's worth enough.. I had more than 800 hours of gameplay before the expansion released, for 40€!! and I'm a casual player... About getting pay to win... I don't think so, it's more about pay to get things before... there is nothing you can get paying that will give you more power than if you just grind it and get it... normally the only things you cannot get unless you pay are cosmetics.... the boosters.. well yes they give you an advantage to have something faster, but you can still get them by grinding your way through. I leveled all my weapons to 20 without using a single booster.

I made the WoW calculation for you guys: 50+(9*35)+(14*12*18) = 3389€ ... now go complain about paying 40+30 for New World...

in short, no. its got a lot of good elements that are probably best in industry, like its crafting/gathering system and focus on audio fidelity. however, the graphics arent nearly good enough to drain the resources they do. running BDO on max graphics in remastered mode i get better frames and a product that looks nicer. The story is complete garbage. Voice acting all around is low rent. weapon skill Animations look second rate like they were just kind of hastily thrown together at the end of production to get something passable out the door. 3 skill combat doesnt leave much room for engaging, immersive, action packed combat loops so at least for me, combat got boring fairly quickly. At the end of the day it felt like a really good "first project" for a new developer. lots of room to grow and improve on the genre and hopefully whatever mmo they crank out next has more work put into the details cuz thats really what makes a game.

Honestly I really enjoyed my solo time with it, and due to the nature of the faction system you can find a guild and do content with friendly people really easily. IIRC they do free weekends occasionally so that'd be the best time to try with your friends!

You have something wrong with your settings mate, i have a mid tier 1440p pc and i rarely drop under 60 fps in outpost and zero stutter(mix of high and med settings). Your cpu probably just sucks if you cant handle cities tbh, even full of ppl.

throw in my 2 cents. At level 65 there is a paywall cycle it feels. PvP requires good gear, so go grind out forever on OPR/Missions. ALL ranged weapons have a damage penalty in PvP, but they are not nearly the issue that melee (with or without healers) are. You won't kill anyone due to gear differences and you cannot afford the gear you would need. You can heal OPR's with very low gear specs, but you are not going to be useful in the open world. You are going to be stuck in an endless loop of wanting to break down trash gear for gold, but cannot due to salvage restrictions. To alleviate this, you need to spend gold for the mats to make salvage kits, which are not all that useful and do not sell. This is an endless loop of poverty. Professions are too expensive to reasonably pursue and just take forever. If you manage to get into a top clan (one that holds territory), the economic statements are not true as the taxes they collect afford them the better gear. Remember if you start now, you are 2 years of gold behind and nothing is making up for it. For PvE, people are elitists to the extreme, denying people for M1 content for having 990 gear score (happened to me as Fire Staff/Ice Gauntlets just last night). The two dungeons a week for mutations means you are SoL for useful artifacts more times than not, regardless of role, and you can only hold 5 artifact quests at a time before losing progress on whatever you try to make room for. Chromatic seals are the hardest thing to acquire to finish an artifact off. The rest are fairly doable easily enough. Bugs... lots of bugs.... and I do not means the Scorpion's Sting, which even with +28% luck to help getting it to drop, has not in 3 weeks of farming for it. After last night's 4 attempts and the aforementioned issues, I have uninstalled this game. Good luck to those who are sticking with it. I hope it does you better. YMMV. With love.

What's the point of even watching any review then? You can get NW for $15 every few months (including RN), so $15 for 100-400 hrs of content is a steal. Unless you're a poor, and you should be doing more productive things if so.

For a new player new world can give u easily 100+ hours of fun game play. It’s when you get to end game. And stay at end game for 2 years with minimal to zero endgame updates with content that people don’t even do after the first week.
