You have done exceptional work putting all of this together. I've been looking for a budget type cross kart design and this is over the top better than anything I could have imagined. Thank you very much for such a nice design and presentation, it's obvious you have put a lot of work into this. I think you will be very successful with this and your future designs. I will be working hard to finish my current projects so I can get started on a VF-1. Thank you very much and God bless you! Steve S. from Dallas.

@@KJRaycing I also have a boosted 304 WHP Honda CRX to enjoy as well. It is way faster and more nimble. It also fits in parking spots better lol. I have %110 planned that this is what I will be doing when I finally get around to selling it. I will likely go with that Polaris 4 wheeler with the KTM engine you use for a donor. My rents moved to a new place after their home was destroyed in a flood. Shortly after pops got sick with the big C and passed a couple years back, so I have been slowly cleaning and beginning to finish setting up the shop he started to put together at his new place. I feel he would want it finished. When I was about 10 years old I wanted a go kart so bad since a couple friends had one. He took me to the metal shop we got some 1" square tube and a build it plan. He showed me how to use the ban saw and a ark welder. I spent a few hours a day over a couple months reading the plans, cutting the pieces, and putting them together. When it was all said and done I had my very own go kart built from start to end from scrap and scratch to a wicked little ride. I had so much fun riding that around till I outgrew it and got into cars at 16. Now some friends are talking about making a kart racing track out at their property to have some fun events at. I had been looking into sand rails and dune buggies refusing to get a SXS then I found your karts and I knew it was a perfect choice.

I like this guy. He has great vision and attitude. I think he could be successful at anything he does. But… I see in some of the close ups of his cars… the welds on the cage are just not up to par. As fast as these cars go and the minimal cage used, a good quality weld with a moly cage is required. Just like sprint cars and other forms of racing that rely on the cage to protect the driver in a crash. I don’t think he is doing anything malicious or intentional, I just think he hasn’t seen what happens to a car like this in a severe crash. Always prepare for the worst and hope for the best. A certified welder would be a great idea. Like I said, he’s a great person to follow and I enjoy his channel. I am only contributing my experience as a fabricator and racer. 👍🏽
@KJRaycing
@KJRaycing 8 ай бұрын
Thank you, I appreciate that. This is my hobby. I’m a professional aviator, not a professional welder. I agree the welds aren’t the prettiest but they have held up for hundreds of hours of hard driving as you will see on the channel. The strength of the chassis is in the design, not in the welds. Thank you for the kind words and I wish you the best 👍

Hey KJ, Couple of questions - are the plans available in millimeters - not many Polaris Outlaws available in Australia, is there another donor quad you recommend - the cost of freight for a rogue fab bender isn’t viable, do you have a second preference? I don’t think JD squared are available here either. Really keen to build a VF-1 but the preliminary research suggests a quality build in Australia with be around 10k aus. Cheers, Clayton

@kjraycing Question on bender and wall thickness. The plans for the VF-1 call for 1.5 x 4.5 CLR bending die, and the main chassis uses 1.5 DOM .083. You also recommend the Rogue Fab bender (which I agree with, and plan on getting), but according to their web site, theirM601 with a 1.50 (1 1/2") x 4.5 CLR bending die can do a MINIMUM wall thickness of .105. I don't see you using as Mandrel attachment in your videos. So the question is - are you successfully able to bend 1.5" .083 wall using their 4.5 CLR die?
@KJRaycing
@KJRaycing 6 ай бұрын
.083 is the min wall thickness per the crosskart technical regulations. .105 is rogue fabs MINIMUM for zero deformation of the tube. If you watch the videos I use .095 with the rogue fab with about 3% deformation if I remember correctly. I have bent .083 successfully with the rogue fab but the plans do read to use thicker wall for higher hp setups anyway. What engine are you planning to use?

Hey chief! Quick question for you, I was curious why you can put the clamp blocks either in front of or behind the bend point markings? I saw in another comment you had mentioned you can put the clamp blocks on either side of the bend points (So long as they are consistent among all the bend points on the same tube) but wouldn't this slightly change the geometry depending on if you put them in front of or behind the markings? Great videos, really enjoy how you take the time to do things right👍
@KJRaycing
@KJRaycing 2 жыл бұрын
There is only one place the bender block should go. If anything I was saying you can do the bends in reverse order of the build sheet. I do the last bend first and so on to make it faster and more accurate. I’m really glad I put out the plans and made the build series, I get thank you’s from the builders on a daily basis. It’s awesome to that so many people are getting good builds from this. Thank you so much. 👍

When you say bend location, what do you mean? In the example of a JD squared bender would the bend location you reference be at the tube stay strap or at the beginning of the die? Or is the bend location where the die actually starts to mark and bend the tube.. Like on a jd squared the bend usually starts about 3/4 inch past the beginning of the die.
@KJRaycing
@KJRaycing 3 жыл бұрын
The measurement I give is from my marking point to the start of the bend. So for a JD squared you’ll have to adjust it because that number is from the start of the bend. The bend location on the plans is from the mark to the start of the bend to be clear.

I would totally be up for altering the plans, but I just don’t know what common metric dies or benders are. If I re-draw the plans for 40mm tubing but use 120mm CLR they may be unusable. I don’t like putting out things that are untested which makes it even harder. The plans are pretty good, you could pen and ink the conversions onto them and be able to make the chassis. They way it is designed allows for variations in construction and still be really strong.

Thank you for tuning in! You can build all of it with 1.25. What is the clr of your die? The plans call for a 4.5 clr which is 3d of the tubing used (racing requirement). The cut wrappers may come out a little off, but i don’t think off enough to not make it possible. The rear a-arms on my first one are 1.25 dom so i know that will work out.

@KJRaycing
@KJRaycing 3 жыл бұрын
Do you know the calibrated car by any chance? The calibrated clr's of the die I use is nearly 5". I don't want to tell you it will be just fine because I don't know. But me personally would definitely give it a try. It might just take a bit longer to get the fit up right and maybe remounting it in the bender for 2 degrees more bend. But it's something I would have definitely tried if I were in your shoes two years ago when there were no options for plans...
