Learning this kind of stuff helped boost my confidence big time when I started learning Korean (and Japanese). For starters, it helps you get the accent and pronunciation down. Also, it just feels good to know a bunch of words that you can actually use in another language.

yeah I agree. adding some English loanwords to your vocabulary makes it easier to start off and since English loanwords are very common in Korean, you can usually find some in every bog post or conversation. It's nice to be like, hey I know what they are talking about now! and yes if you practice converting random English words to Korean that can teach you a lot about Korean pronunciation :) can be quite tricky though, I still find myself making mistakes sometimes :D

Now I understand North Koreans when they need to learn Southern accent. This is very difficult to pronunce but I know this is konglish but yeah...if there are native Korean words for those konglish words I will prefer to say the native one

@@AshleyKaulitz007 감사합니다 ! I find it weird that they wouldn't have chosen a hangulization that reflected the English pronunciation, since Korean seems to have pretty standard rules for adopting English loanwords. I'm surprised it isn't 어프로드 or something.
@AKADriver
@AKADriver 6 жыл бұрын
I bet it's because "upload" was borrowed as if it was two words (since a lot of people were already familiar with "up" by itself) and then mashed back together. You see the same thing with English compound words that are "hot-"something, because "hot" gets rendered as 핫 rather than 하트.

This list is leaving out the words that are English in origin but have different meanings in Korean, like 원피스, 헬스, 파이팅, etc. I was surprised to see 서비스 since it's so often used to mean "on the house" rather than service.

Konglish can also mean badly translated English. Here there's no pretense of speaking English, you're speaking Korean but with words that sound like the English ones. When you say "I enjoy the cuisine at that restaurant" it's not Frenglish even though the words come from French.
